Christmas Work Parties

I went to a works Christmas party quite a few years ago held at a local pub
I was new in the job at the time and didn't realise we all had to pay for our own dinner so at the end of the night I went waltzing off to get my lift home when someone came running down the street after me to remind me not so quietly that I had to pay for my dinner before I could go home that was the first and last time i ever went 😳

I hate sitting through a dinner with people I couldn't care less about, and trying to pretend at being jolly. Luckily I'm good at being fake.

We have ours next week and I'm dreading it. I already tried to tell my very overbearing co-worker I didn't want to go, my excuse being I didn't like the menu choices but she wouldn't take no for an answer 😡

Had an off-work party with my old colleagues the other day. Was much better. Luckily our place isn't throwing one this year so can just go on leave for Christmas in peace.

That's ridiculous. You have no obligation to go. Perhaps you are ill on the day?

We've not had a party this year, just went for a drink after work which is much more my thing these days.

I wasn’t going to go to mine, went and got far too drunk. Have spent all weekend wondering whether I’ve said something I shouldn’t have to someone. Not worth the anxiety it causes. I’m not going next year 🤣.

Back round to that time again. Place of work hasn't planned anything yet thankfully (I always think it depends if the managers are arsed or not which they aren't)

Hoping there's not some last minute scramble to get one in by them though. Got a few offshoot gatherings with people I get on with and ex co-workers but there's no pressure there as we actually want to meet up.

I hate them and only go out of necessity.
I have no interest in socialising with work people, especially getting drunk with them.
I have other friends who I'd rather be with

We don't have an official work party some of the staff arrange a night out by that I mean sitting in a local pub getting bladdered I have absolutely no interest in spending my own time with people I work with it's bad enough having to be with them in work time 🤣
One of them mentioned it the other day so I need to get an excuse ready to go I've got a wedding in a couple of weeks and I really hope it coincides with that perfect excuse to say I can't go out with them

Don't do Xmas parties I'm paid to be nice at work. Why would I waste the little time I have off before Xmas with people who phone in sick, make sure they have best time off and leave without a care when others are struggling to finish their work. Nope not for me. Also secret santa I don't do anymore. I find hard to stick to the budget luckily I got someone I respected in the sense she never phoned in sick leaving us short or come in hungover etc. But wouldn't do again because I wouldn't want to spend my money on alot of them some are hopefully only seasonal staff. They are all been trained but soon as manager isn't on shift it's like they can't find a speed to do the actual job.

This is what they do at my work but I just say no. I don’t even give a reason! They probably ag me off for being unsociable because they’re all so witchy!

Omg secret santa 🙄 I haven't done it for years but in a previous job the manager made everyone join in I always bought the standard chocolates or gift set ,
one year I got a poinsettia plant from the shop we worked in which they would have got discount on then the next year I got 3 bangles the ones you had as a kid the really thin fake metal ones that somebody had probably found in a the back of a drawer somewhere never did it again

The secret santa gift a Co worker got was really inappropriate. She is a very closed of women, single (fiance left her) a very pg lady. Apparently had to open a sex toy at the work Christmas party.

My place of work is doing a meal out - we have to pay for ourselves obvs but it's a lunchtime and we get the afternoon off (to stay out). Luckily I like all these colleagues so think it'll be nice and at least it's not on my own time!

The last Xmas Do I attended - HR got drunk really early and had to get sent home in a taxi, my supervisor made very loud racist comments in a very quiet fancy pub (several of us visibly sunk into our seats and covered our faces) and one girl started crying...
I had already suggested I wasn't staying the whole night because I couldn't afford it and was peer pressured to stay out from the moment I arrived until I managed to escape. Never again.

We've already had our Christmas do. Just organised between a group of us, all paid ourselves and had a really fun night.
