Christmas haters

Christmas seems to start on September the 1st these days. Or at least the run up it does. By the time the day arrives, you are truly sick of it.
This is exactly how I feel.

I don't celebrate Christmas, but I enjoy the "festive" atmosphere. The issue is that over here, shops start selling Christmas items in October and blasting Christmas music in November. By the time year-end holidays start, I'm already done with the whole thing. Also, Christmas is more exciting when you're a child. As a grown up, you no longer see the magic in it.

Yeh unless you have children to buy stuff for etc (which I don’t) , on Xmas day it is all a bit meh.

but I agree I would appreciate it a lot more ifthe whole “Xmas period” was at the most just December

Im sure I start saying how much I dislike Christmas every year when its rammed into your face from September onwards. .
I then give myself a little talking to, tell myself off for being a misery and "try" to get in the "spirit"
A day with the in-laws is far too much for me, they're boring, they're argumentative, they THINK they know everything and they are ALWAYS the last to leave . .
Im categorically NOT doing it again next year, I get absolutely no pleasure from the whole experience and quite frankly am always relieved to get it over and done with.

It was a real PITA the supermarkets being shut on Boxing day. I didn't have enough in and was having to eat bits and bobs from the freezer and chunks of stollen etc. The last time I went shopping was mid last week and I underestimated and got panicky because it was rammed and Xmas music was blaring out. I went out first thing to Asda this morning and there was hardly anyone in and it was being restocked.
I cant stand Xmas and I'm very glad its over.

I used to LOVE Christmas but this year I’ve realised how dysfunctional my family is and to be honest I cannot be bothered with the fuss anymore.
Lots of effort and no appreciation. Plus I had to work so couldn’t even drink to numb the pain.

I have never been organised when it comes to Christmas, I always leave things till the last minute. This year was no exception, rushing around trying to find certain things, and failing. Sorry to sound negative, but Christmas shopping this year was quite a disappointment.
So I have made my first New Years resolution, next Christmas I will be organised.

I can quite honestly say I have disliked Christmas for the last 15 years. That’s when we left the uk to move to NZ.
it’s not because of the people we left behind particularly, cos trust me I have had some tit christmases with close family and relatives…
It’s more a case of NZ doing Christmas so badly. Ok so it’s in the middle of summer here… but you can’t buy a real tree, a decent Turkey, decorations that aren’t cheap and nasty, no sprouts or edible mince pies either.
No one exchanges cards, and the tv viewing is dire.
To make matters worse our only child is in Australia - so no travel there…
Christmas dinner just the two of us at a big dining table was so depressing.
Totally not doing Christmas next year, I’m either going out to eat, or preferably going away somewhere.

I’ve always felt empty and faking it a bit when it comes to Christmas. Like others have said it’s that false sense of joviality and having to have these perfect family moments that make it really difficult for me. Since the age of social media my enjoyment of Christmas has gotten worse, anytime i went online I was bombarded with people having ‘a wonderful Christmas time’ from late November onwards.

This year I’ve stepped away from social media, haven’t posted a thing about my life or looked very much at anyone else’s and do you know this Christmas was the first one I can remember that I wasn’t all frantic inside wondering if I’m doing it right. I just relaxed and enjoyed the day and the next day St Stephens day here in Ireland I felt ok.

Usually I feel really anticlimactic the day after Christmas as I’ve built myself up so much for this one day and then it’s all over. I really thought this Christmas would be my worst cos I had no festive feeling another year of Covid had killed it completely. But I would much prefer to feel this way than they way I’ve felt other years. I think Christmas has in a lot of ways become too much of a competition and that doesn’t tie in with the true meaning of the season which is a time of giving. Commercialism has used this time of giving as an opportunity to ruin Christmas IMO and then you have all the prominent SM personalities adding to it with pictures of their perfect home, family, presents e.t.c

I’ve never once seen a photo of someone making the Christmas dinner in a kitchen that looks like a bomb site for example.

Anyway that’s my two cents to all who enjoyed it and to all who didn’t a Happy New Year to you all I hope we all find something to look forward to next year.

I don't hate Christmas, love it and the build up (just not the crass consumerism and the November Christmas decoraters).
I hate that on boxing day it's all about sales and NYE, no I need my Christmas joy lasting a couple of days more rather than that's it it's over.

The TV programme selection is dire - it's just the same old naff repeats, year after year. They probably stick the control room on autopilot and all head off on holidays.

I'm in Auckland and have found it to be excessively Christmassy this year - from October onwards (far too early).

I think the cards thing is mostly done by older people now ... besides, with the post being so unpredictable, who'd know when the cards would get to their destination?

Great idea to go out, or away, next Christmas. I booked a holiday house with some friends and don't want to leave, I'm having such a great time.

I suffer with my MH and it’s been pretty crap this Christmas. I haven’t wanted to do it but hosted for my brothers with LD and my dad. My mum and step dad live abroad.
I hate all the build up and the worry about what to get the family. I hate the expectation of it being ‘the best time of year’. It’s never been the same since we lost my grandparents over 12 years ago.

the day was exhausting. my dad is still here and I love him dearly but I really need to rest and recoup for a few days. I fell asleep on the sofa for a couple of hours this morning as I’m mentally and physically drained but it looks like he may be here until new year. I’m not cooking today. He can pick at the food we have left over. I may even go back to sleep for a bit after I have done a bit of housework. I hate this limbo in between Christmas and new year. I want it all to be over with 😒

I wish it was once every 4 years like a leap year I could just about cope with that!!

Ive said this many many times, as someone who doesn't celebrate the true meaning of Christmas I think a bit like the world cup/Olympics it would be perfect. . Something to look forward to rather than dread

I live in temporary accommodation and have no contact with my family. I spent it alone it was very triggering and I was so low. After Boxing Day I felt a huge weight off my shoulders and things starting going back to normal. It was nice to go to the local supermarket and not queue for ages. I guess I like the simple things
