I know how you feel. My Grandma was a huge part of my Christmas and now she's gone it's not the same. Even more so since I can't visit my Grandad this year. It's gutting but I still enjoy the time I spend with my family. So not a hater but just not feeling it this year.

I don't like Christmas it just doesn't excite me its just stress and money. Even more so that I lost my grandad a month ago Christmas will never be the same without him. Didnt even feel like putting the tree up this year being so down and grieving but I had to for my 5yo who is Christmas obsessed. I still do all the Christmassy activities for her to enjoy even though I'm not a lover myself

So sorry for your loss. I can relate to how incredibly difficult it is at christmas time after losing a grandparent. The first christmas was so empty, since then it hasn't been the same. Must be tough having to put on a brave face for your little one, my condolences x

Am I the only person who can't stand the film It's a wonderful life? I tried watching it once, but became irritated with it fairly quickly. Or am I just being a Scrooge?
It is overrated. Watched it once, once was enough. 🙄

I have a love/hate relationship with Christmas. I have spent many Christmasses by myself, not through choice and that has made me feel very unloved. Conversely, I have spent Christmas with the wrong people and wished I was alone. I hate the image that the media portrays about Christmas. We are fed a lie. For many it is an incredibly lonely and depressing time, far from being inclusive, often quite the opposite.

I do enjoy exchanging cards though and I love listening to Christmas carols, although many of them are so beautiful, they often make me cry, especially the ones sung by the Choristers at King’s College, Cambridge.

I must say I am usually glad when Christmas is all over.

It could have been me writing this post, I agree with many of the things you've said. But we've had such an awful year, I think we deserve to indulge ourselves for a while.

So glad I’m not the only one, people can be quite rude when you say you’re not a big fan. I don’t hate it and do enjoy some bits but I particularly don’t enjoy the monotony of it (it’s the same every year) and the commercialism of it. It’s no longer about good will and giving but greed and gluttony, it really brings out the worst in some people! I also have to see my bigot of a mother, I hope there would be tighter restrictions to save me from that one 🙈 my husband doesn’t have any family and I only have my parents and brother so I do get a but upset when I see big families gathering. I do enjoy Christmas films, donating to charity, mince pies and mulled wine 😊 I’m definitely enjoying it more this year, after a crap year. I think as I’ve got older I’ve realised there is no set way to celebrate, just do what makes you happy. Sending love to you all ❤

I loved Xmas as a kid, my parents always tried to make it special. We where by no means spoilt at all. My parents separated on Boxing Day & since then it’s just been a normal day.

When I met my husband, his family go all out.
20+ people around the dinner table, huge amounts of gifts etc, I lied about what gifts I’d got that morning as I was so embarrassed. For a few years I got stuck into their traditions with lots of dec’s up, Xmas pj’s for the kids, spending £100’s to see Santa etc...

The last 3 years I’ve began to really hate it, i make it nice for the kids but I get sick with anxiety from Xmas eve to Boxing Day then nothing but guilt up to New Years as to why I didn’t try harder.

I’ve asked that we don’t celebrate my birthday (in jan) as again I make my self sick with worry for days.

Next year I want us to go on holiday ... husband agrees !

Weird relationship with christmas perhaps - on the one hand it's my favorite holiday when I get to spend it how and with who I want, but this year I'm with my toxic bitter grandma (I'm not exagerating, literally no one can stand her) counting down the days till I leave monday and I've just been crying at night thinking of the grandparents who I had a good relationship with who I wish I could spend christmas with. Also I'm exhausted from being constantly insulted, critisized and belittled.

Boxing day is my favourite, it's all over and I can tidy away it all. I used to take my decorations down boxing day but the kids ask me to leave them for a bit. They are down before new year.

No I can't stand it. I only managed 20 mins and then had to leave the room. Also got death stares at work once when I said it was overrated 😄 I have no idea why people get upset when you don't rate something that they do 🤔

Ditto for polar express. People look at you if you have a second head if you say you haven't seen it all

I've always loved the lights and the decorations but Christmas yesterday for me was really hard. I cried a bit, watched an hour and a half of Fraiser and just wanted the day to be over. Christmas reminds me of what I don't have mainly. The run up this year was also hard, someone I was close to also died in april because of covid.

Never seen it either!

I don't hate Christmas but I don't love it either. I hate all the nonsense that surrounds it. I'm frequently disappointed by gifts given to me and I find it really stressful to get gifts others enjoy.

I enjoy the food aspect though 🤣 That's the best bit for me tbh. Plus the husband being off work. I'm a SAHM mum so having both of us around for 2 weeks is magic.

If it wasn't for the children I wouldn't have any decorations up, I just can't be bothered with it.

I was quite pleased that the restrictions this year meant I didn't have to do the usual school stuff which is just a bun fight with other parents. Squeezing into a hall to watch 100+ children that aren't mine is boring.

Thankfully my lot have always hated Santa visits and the like so we've avoided them. I do love panto, but I love theatre in general so it's just another excuse to go. Children aren't fussed though and H moans about going too so I said after last year I wasn't going to go with them again as it's expensive and take my mum who will enjoy it. Hopefully next year!

I don't hate Christmas loved it when I was a kid, now it's just become a reminder of what I don't have. Spent last year in tears and wishing the day away alone.

I also think Xmas is rit esp when there’s no one in the house that believes so we had been using the time to have a holiday abroad though last year we spent it doing a Xmas package in a hotel in York and it was bloody brilliant they kept feeding us lovely food and between meals we’d have lovely walks around York I think it was my favourite ever Xmas

Believe it or not a local stately home has just started advertising for Xmas Santa etc. Yes thats right before the children return to school even in Sept.

I hate everything about it (except a cheesey Christmas movie) and have to put on a smile for my husband and his family. Even before I went into septic shock on Christmas Day, the day was ruined for me by years of family crap. I don’t get it. Always feels like the whole world shuts down, I’m forced to open umpteen smelly sets and write thank you cards, visit every family member going in one day so we do about 200 miles, and then back home to realise Tesco is shut and I can’t have an anger Mars bar 😂

My mother, who claims to hate Christmas (spoiler she talks about it a lot for someone who supposedly hates it), has started bringing it up. Literally because its September she's started with the "not long til Christmas". Over 3 months away. I find it a bit sad to be honest that some people make such a big chunk of the year about 1 day.

It's the countdown with my cousins I used to like. I always loved the lights and decorations though. Something to look forward to and we'd get presents too of course. My aunt used to host parties, but the then family scandal was that she secretly got married without telling her parents. I didn't see her from the ages of 8 until I was at least 14. I wanted to hold on to that feeling that I had as a child so I did overcompensate buying Christmas presents for friends. I cut that down to just buying for my two sisters for the past two years.
