Yes to lots of lights! I hate it when they look sparse on the lights! I too also only have the tree on most nights rather than lamps etc

Don’t come for me but I cut mine off my tree every year and buy new ones every year. I’m not untangling 1500 lights.
Don’t really need a new tree but I’m very influenced now to go and look at these Argos/habitat ones.

I’m far too frugal/stingy to do this haha

Did you just snap one year and get the scissors out? I’m picturing you hacking away at the tree manically like Edward Scissorhands

That many lights would give me a bloody migraine.
How do you manage to have the tree lights, candles, tv, lamps on at the same time & not feel like you're at Blackpool illuminations.

I'm not coming for you but it is pretty wasteful & costly.

I think they're LED now so a lot cheaper to run.
Might explain the proliferation of displays outside people's houses now.

My costly comment was regarding replacement, buying a new set of 1500 lights each year.
Just shows how in this small group alone our choices & budgets I guess are very different.
I always have a real tree & like to see the tree itself scattered with the decs. It's definitely personal preference.

Give me allllll the lights! We have warm white in the lounge (actually I think they're called something pretentious like "antique gold" ) and we just use the tree to light the room in the evenings.

Our main tree is a 7 footer from The Range. It cost us £25, and this will be it's 13th Christmas. Then we have a 5 foot one in the dining room that came from my Grandma's loft, so is probably as old as me the main one is what my friend calls our department store tree. White lights, has a colour scheme. The other one has coloured lights and is covered with nonsense like a felt dinosaur in a santa hat, and a cow in a Christmas jumper.

I don't like real trees

We are currently house hunting and the first thing I think is "where would the Christmas tree go" and "does this house layout allow me to have two trees". Mr HoneyStar can deal with the boring stuff like boilers and surveys, I'll focus on the important bits

We do get a real tree from the farm shop down the road which takes up 99% of the living room (slight exaggeration) which Mr Fluff likes to decorate each year (thank God). We've collected lots of different decorations from our travels over the years so it's a bit personal, but I love the warm white lights and coming downstairs on a dark morning it does have a lovely, comforting glow! I decorate the rest of the house.

We got some fun ceiling dangling santas and snowmen from the Christmas Shop in Bourton on the Water a couple of years ago (worth a visit!) which go in the kitchen. They haven't fallen and hit anyone yet...

It’s one of the most important things, of course! My non-negotiable when we were looking for our house was a bay window for the Christmas tree

I have a 6FT tree with 2.5K coloured lights then more lights along the mantlepiece and tv stand. a 6f tee in the conservatory but that only has 1.5k lights on

and might even treat myself to a real tree for my bay window. Just go utterly ham one year. Maybe even use all the decorations

I love this thread and I love a twinkly light!.

My mum and dad haven't changed anything up since the 70s, 80s at a push. When they decorate I'll try and take a photo of all their ancient boxed pifco lights ✨️ .

I was a kid in the 70's and nothing will beat 70's Christmas decor for me. I'm not a fan of pristine trees or perfectly placed decor. Colour and tinsel all the way in my house.

The foil decorations sellotaped to the ceiling my nana always had these little tree decorations which were basically polystyrene wrapped up to look like presents. I was always dying to open them!
