I agree with this, it’s the festive season. I think it was mentioned upthread, or maybe in another, but the shops bringing in their Easter stuff now is so jarring in my opinion because it makes the commercialisation so blatant. Many of us are still enjoying Christmas leftovers and events but they’re pushing the next thing on us. It’s not as obvious when Christmas stuff comes in (still far too early, imo) because its not off the back of another big event.
I think the fact Xmas starts from about September is quite sad. It definitely takes away some of magic. When I was a kid my Mum would start Christmas shopping right at the beginning of December and it was regarded as quite soon!! The tree never went up until mid December and it was just magical month.

Now it's all instagrammed and competitions as to who can have the biggest tree, go to the most events and generally be the most ridiculous.

I always keep my Christmas decorations up until the first week in Jan as I love the cosy festive feeling, but then I’ve also eaten two bags of mini eggs already so 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s the best of both worlds haha

I think the reason why people feel so sad at the moment is because people don’t realise that a Christmas lasts until the 6th January. I find it odd that the radios stop playing Christmas songs and music after Boxing Day. We are all so fast paced we forget to truly enjoy the season and slow down. Keep the decs up (if it works for you and your family), continue watching and singing Christmas songs and films, eat the festive food, for heavens sake, EAT, DRINK and CONTINUE TO BE MERRY PEOPLE! 😂
THIS!! I have been feeling like I'm on a conveyor belt getting ready for Christmas then the day is gone and suddenly the shops are filled with Easter Eggs and all joy has gone. I really hate how fast paced and pressured life is

I 100% agree. I feel so meh at the minute. I'm caught in a loop of wanting to enjoy every minute of rest but then stressing that ive got all this time off and not doing anything productive (whatever productive is!)
And it's only 29 December, I don't go back to work for another week.
I actually wish we had more time off like this throughout the year. Learning to just be and relax would certainly serve me well 😅

Does anybody have any recommendations for where to try to get a really nice tree from? Not really fussy on price but would prefer it to be the perfect thing that will last us a long time if not forever
Balsam hill always gets recommended.

MD triggers people aswell (me included) so I'd much rather they left that one until nearer the damn time. So I can avoid it longer.

Yesss I know people get triggered by other events but MD & FD types are very specific for a specific person. I get for my auntie but grabbed a handful of cards last year so I don't have to go out for them lol

Spent less than a fiver in Poundland for Christmas bits which are being put aside for the next one. I'm also going to take the week off before Christmas so I can actually enjoy the season rather than run around exhausted. I don't even have kids so absolutely no idea how you parents do it.

Sainsburys also has lots of its Christmas lines reduced and not everything is short dated like I expected. There was a brownie/cheesecake pudding that looked delightful but I still have a trifle, damn it.

Do not worry in a few days a Christmas 2025 thread will be made. :ROFLMAO:
Can’t wait!

I have to admit, I felt this Christmas was a bit ‘meh’. Everything felt very rush and last minute, so im going to throw myself head first in to the next one in terms of preparation etc.

My decs wont be coming down until 6th Jan. I love this time of year when we don’t know what day or time it is, everyone stays up late and sleeps long in the morning. Eating all the lovely food, seeing family and friends, watching all the soaps, my boys going to football games, all the sport on TV, no worries about school or work. Currently sitting with only the tree lighting up my living room, about to watch Gavin and Stacey again, have a bottle of wine and will order a takeaway later. I feel sorry for people that take their decs down and ‘get back to normal’ on Boxing Day. I even seen someone on TikTok take their tree down on 6pm Christmas Day.

Mine are down! Although not back in the loft yet. I couldn't enter a new year with them up, it would make me feel all wonky.

Overall, I think it's been a good Christmas. I bought too much cheese though. I ate an entire camembert for lunch with two large slices of sourdough.

The lobster is currently defrosting but in all honesty, having read the instructions that appear to require me to use tweezers to get the meat in the legs, I've gone off the idea.

When me and my siblings were little my parents didn't have half as much stress or competition around Christmas that parents seem to have now. There was no "Elf on the shelf" No Christmas Eve boxes, no pressure to buy matching pajamas and pose in front of the tree. They were just relaxing and memorable. I did have Santa and the pressure to behave but I didn't have an Elf watching me, destroying our house or eating my chocolate on top of that which would have really stressed me out as a kid. Social media has ruined a lot of things.

My teenage boys just missed all that elf on the shelf sh@te thankfullly. I probably would have felt guilty and got swept up in it. I’m so glad I avoided it. Agree, it was lovely when it was much simpler. But i absolutely love Christmas, all this nonsense just ruins it.
