Totally agree with what everyone's saying about acids. I think the thing is, if you've never used them before and you start with them, they can make a very big difference to your skin immediately, almost like they're taking off a layer to reveal lovely smooth skin underneath. So you feel like you should use them every day to keep that up. But after a while, it feels like they're stripping away too much and you can start to get some redness. That's my experience anyway. I still like to have them in my routine once or twice a week but every day is too much. Paula's Choice Salicylic Acid for me. My routine is now a mix of some of the more expensive serums, oils etc. but a lot of it I've gone back to basics and back to the stuff I've used for years that I know does the job at a good price. It's eye watering how much some people must be spending on the high end stuff for every single step of their routine.

Oh my god this is so true. I used an acid toner for the first time and was SO happy with the results that I continued to use it twice a day for 3 weeks and then totally broke out.

I think this is one of the problems with the Clinique three-step thing everyone used to talk about. The second step is an exfoliating toner and if you use it twice a day, it can actually be very harsh on many skins. People love to over-exfoliate (guilty of this myself) in the quest for "better skin" that's so hyped about by CH and her ilk.

Honestly, how often has she said this too, that acid toning should be part of a daily routine (combined with all the other actives she advocates on a daily basis, madness!). There is no credibility with any of them, Sali Hughes, Nadine Baggott etc. They just flip flop constantly and there's always the next big thing that we simply MUST slot into our routines.

Nadine Baggott is doing my head in lately! I didn’t mind her so much, but recently she’s upped the hard sell and every post is a flippin advert. Even teeth whitening ffs. It’s ridiculous.

Back to acids. If anyone is looking for a more gentle one I recommend the Inkey List PHA, it’s lovely. I’ve been using it once or twice a week and I’ve had no issues with tingling or redness at all. It does a good job, skin feels really smooth the next morning.

Oh they‘re all at it aren’t they?! They pivoted to 24/7 selling to us from their make up rooms. I get it, change to survive and keep your income but it’s relentless and has made me tune out of content I actually used to enjoy.

Hannah Martin has been unboxing package after luxury package after high end Jiffy bag for 6 months. It’s frankly a bit revolting and I can’t be bothered with any of her content at all. And she is SO nice and all lovely and ....but enough. The luxury (and amount!) of it all 🤢.

I think she’s a very nice person but it’s obvious what’s she had to do to fill the gap where a summer of wedding make up was to have been. Not knocking that. But there’s been just so much of it I skip it all now.

I wish they would give it a rest and not do it every single day, sometimes it’s several brands per day. It’s relentless. Also, they’re all flogging the same bloody products, it’s so boring! A brand has a campaign and they roll it out to the same group of influencers at the same time or within days of one another. Don’t they understand their audience at all?

As a consumer, you definitely become fed up with it, so now I deliberately ignore any product that’s advertised because I find it so irritating. At some point this must reach saturation and have a negative impact on brands.

Hirons has it in her book, acid toning every day. I have “everything breaks me out skin”
I hate it and I don’t know where to start. How I came across Hirons. It all seemed too much to me though. I’ll just keep muddling along until I find something that works... Which feels like never to be honest 🙁

That red Ordinary acid ducked up my skin so badly. I'd used other acids before and my skin can tolerate retinol, but it took ages to recover from that horror.
Unless your skin is terribly congested or "dull" (hate that expression) I don’t think you need to exfoliate daily.

This is an interesting take on the subject:

Yes she said in one of the IG lives she did, when people asked her about some k beauty products, she said something like "they're probably fine, but honestly I'm not too bothered with them, I'm not big on trends".

What people like Caroline Hirons, Trinny Woodall and Sali Hughes
The thing about these three is that they all give me the distinct impression that they are three witches. None of them is an expert on skincare or makeup, but they have all made themselves wealthy through being pushy.

I see she’s had another blow dry. Her hair looks to be in terrible condition. When it’s been done professionally surely it should look sleek and have shine to it. Hers does have body but just looks so very dry and straggley. If that’s intentional then I can’t understand why, and if not then I’d be going elsewhere.

Sorry to highjack the thread with acid talk but I’ve never used acid before and wondering if anyone has recommendations on which one to start with?

I don't think there is an issue with acid everyday, as long as that is your only acid/exfoliant and you're not also using scrubs, or retinol or peels or spinny Clarisonic type bushes.

CH loves a retinol. She doesn't also need a crap ton of acids, and the was she uses them on her face is pretty harsh

Pixi Glow Tonic is nice and gentle but still effective. It has aloe in so is soothing at the time (which a lot of the cheaper glcolic toners don't have)

Its designed for everyday but start of slowly. You can always build up to more frequent use

The Nip and Fab pads are an easy cheaper option but definitely not as gentle as glow tonic.

I use P50 twice a day (not on Caroline's recommendation). I don't use tret or anything else. Every now and again I'll use liquid gold (but not at the same time)

I really don't understand why someone would go on to a group of 60k strangers and ask something like this. I think people are trying to ask certain questions to provoke Caroline in to responding. Very desperate.
Ignoring the "I'm so cool I have sex" implacations, I hate this sort of post.

I'm so tired I didn't do my full routine this evening Freaks, please forgive me..

Queue lots of people saying they haven't missed a full night routine since 1985 even when drunk..

Thanks!
I do use The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid emulsion but have read this can’t be used at the same time as an acid. Or it can be but you have to be careful, don’t think I’ll take that chance so would probably only use it twice a week. I’ll have a look next time I’m in boots for the pixi tonic. I’ve seen that a millions times aswell. I was just looking at the mario badescu glycolic acid too as it’s only 2% so wonder if that’s a good starting point? I’m lost in a world of acids 🤯🤯🤯
