I’ve spoken to people in the mental illness community this week that have found all the speculation and ‘Be Kind’ rhetoric quite suffocating. Quite rightly so as living with mental illness long term and managing it is a little different to just hoping everyone will ‘Be kind’ to you. It’s time consuming, restrictive and hard work, especially if you are functioning (i.e part of society, have a family, work etc.) Sadly when a high profile suicide happens, mental illness gets dramatised when in reality it’s as boring as any other illness. You take your meds, do your day, keep your fingers crossed and repeat. I don’t think that any article etc now is worth the time unless it comes from her family. I just read Piers Morgan’s and it’s just incessant drivel from a distant professional colleague.
