Maybe their decision to prosecute wasn’t just based on his injury alone. Their body cam footage would have shown her as completely out of control, irate, aggressive and flipping tables in custody. There is a lot more to consider than just the initial throwing of the phone, which she admitted to by saying she whacked him round the head. I’m sure the police were very concerned for what they witnessed that night and that a lot of what they had on body cam is also reasons for the charges persisting. There is a reason Caroline was completely fearful of that footage getting out.

Are you a mother? I'd say 100 percent of all loving mothers still see their child as their little girl. I think the vast majority of people on here are forgetting that this is want mothers do. Mother bear instinct comes in and mothers protect their own flesh and blood. And is it to the point of delusion? Probably. Do I blame her? No. Cause if Caroline was my daughter and my best friend I'd be protecting her, no matter.
But her mother didn't protect her. She should have moved in with Caroline or moved Caroline with her if she was that desperate to stop her doing something stupid. Blaming her friends for leaving is just horrible.

I feel so sorry for her twin sister. Imagine having this hanging over your head for the rest of your life.

People saying why didn’t they just get her sectioned obviously have no idea how difficult that is. In A&E I’ve seen many people in crisis, who have tried to take their own lives and 99% of them are sent home with community follow up (which is normally a phone call from a mental health worker).

Yeah true. But imagine if he had been gaslighted her for months. We just don't know do we. No one deserves to be hit on the head while asleep though but I can understand why she was so mad.
You’re right we just don’t know so why can you understand why she was so mad?
She went snooping on his phone while he was asleep and didn’t like what she saw. That didn’t give her the right to assault him. She was a 40 year old famous woman who had been dating a nobody in their 20’s for 4 months so the power imbalance was in her favour not his. She had a history of unhealthy intense short term relationships so I don’t think you can blame him for her behaviour.

We don’t know if he was cheating on her and even if he was that still does not give her the right to assault him.

did people really like caroline flack, i couldnt be arsed with her on xfactor - and the harry styles thing ew. I was surprised she was picked to host love island she was a bit better on that but nothing amazing, didn't realise she was such a national treasure tbh
She wasn’t. Most people saw her for who she was, hence why her press was so mixed. She tried many times to rehabilitate her image, going on Strictly didn’t lead to a change of job options. I think she tried to venture into other areas but her love of the limelight, her dress sense and need to date much younger men was what she was mostly known for. The love island crowd liked her but tbf this wasn’t exactly a stretch for her.

She's actually maddening! My precious Caroline. No accountability. Total delusion.
There was another moment on the pod when she said she went to visit Caroline the weekend before she took her own life. She says as she drove out the gate she looked at her small stature and thought “how has a little girl like you gotten into this mess”. Again, minimising what happened and referring to 40 year old Caroline as a harmless little girl who this just happened to, like she didn’t cause it

I just saw this as well! I wonder what the mother will try to blame this one on? Very sad for the family however.
I feel like this is a bit insensitive. I feel for Christine, heartbreaking.

I don’t know if MH runs in the family but from his final IG post after Caroline passed it appears he took it very hard. RIP.

Unfortunately the mother is not a reliable narrator. She is insistent on infantilising Caroline throughout and has airbrushed Lou Teasdale and her dad out of the whole narrative, so what else has been glossed over or airbrushed? When she started minimising throwing the phone saying she just tapped it off him to wake him up that was enough for me. She wasn’t there, how could she possibly know this? Lewis had a wound on his head and l’d imagine it would take some force from a phone to make that kind of impact. The downplaying of Caroline’s violence that night was uncomfortable to watch.
We’ve all dropped our phones on our face scrolling in bed why does the mum think we don’t know how hard it must have been thrown to break through skin 😭 I’ve taken my own phone to the face by accident many a time 🙈 and never once had a bruise never mind cut the skin and that hurts bad enough it must have been so painful no wonder he called the police!

Hey, lurker here who is watching the Disney+ documentary now.

So, full disclosure, I’m British, 30 and was never interested in any of this until maybe last week when I had insomnia and clicked on trending threads, because it was always ‘the love island presenter who was much loved, died due to internet trolls, #if you can be anything be kind’ and I was totally disinterested due to horrible, problematic TikTokers chucking her name around and I’ve never watched LI.

Then I actually googled her for the first time last week, saw a picture and instantly thought “oh shit, it’s her?!” She was absolutely a big part of my childhood, but I didn’t really associate her with that, because of all the bs I’ve heard online about her since her death.
I watched her on CBBC, I wouldn’t call her an outstanding heroine of my childhood or anything, but yes she’s definitely influential and was always around, as a family we used to get very into X-Factor etc.

From what I’ve watched so far (and I’m aware I’m new to her story) I am absolutely sickened by the way her mother is acting.
If I ever die by suicide (and I have come very close indeed to it, several times) and my mother acted like this, harassing and blaming my friends and exes, I’d bloody haunt her.

What an absolute delusional narcissist, I’m sorry if that’s harsh, but no matter what Caroline’s childhood was like, she did become an abuser and it’s very rare that comes out of nothing to do with their upbringing.

I recently listened to an audiobook by Dylan Klebold’s (one of Columbine shooters) mother (and no, I’m not comparing Caroline to Dylan in terms of severity of their crimes, I’m just using it as a comparison as it’s a book I’ve read/listened to just last week) and it’s beautiful, horrible, sad and she doesn’t deny what her son did, blame anyone else, accepts that she may have contributed or perhaps have been able to prevent it, she probably made mistakes, it’s about her battle with not being able to turn back time and her coming to terms with what he did and accepting it and dealing with the grief that comes with.

I have no idea where this ‘social media killed her’ came from, seems like the shitty horrible media culture damaged her already fragile mental health.

It’s always complicated when someone you admire isn’t so perfect, and it’s clear she was an abuser at least to her most recent partner, I don’t think the media coverage would have been different if she were a man, there’s plenty of male celebrities who frequently get away with all this shit and more.

I don’t know, this just all feels so dragged out and her name has become an excuse for ‘influencers’ to do whatever they like, then when there’s a wiff a criticism, Caroline’s name gets pulled out as an ace card. Why?! I’m baffled to be honest 😅

EDIT: Egh I’m sorry, he was hit in the head with a lamp whilst he was sleeping, and Caroline’s mother is trying to play it off as nothing, because Caroline self harmed which inflicted more severe wounds?! Don’t think so, mate. Your daughter could have killed him in that assault and then harmed herself, she was clearly very mentally unstable, if you’re regretting not being around then address that! I’ve very little sympathy for her anymore 😅

I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole because there was just something so off about her mum on the show. Happened upon the cps review for anyone who’s missed it and, wow, eye opening

Also found her mother’s comments to the Di who asked for the CPS to reconsider. Very strange for a grieving mother to refer to Caroline as “that girl killed herself because you put an appeal through”

Really, he was asleep and she smacked him with a phone? Even when she was on conditional bail, she broke her conditions by trying to get in touch with him. Even if he was a twat (and I have no idea as I had never heard of him ever before), he didn't deserve being smacked in the heard with a phone.

Given most people takes pics of everything (including their tea, their nails, drinks poured etc etc) why wouldn't he take a picture of all the blood. I'm also not surprised he sent it to his friend either. Everyone overshares way too much now. The friend was the one who sent it to the press.
We don’t actually know if it was a phone either.. that’s what she claimed. When he called the police he had been woken up by being hit and was confused and in shock.. she had thrown lamps, a desk fan etc it was all thrown and smashed so he originally said on the phone call and when the police arrived it could’ve been any of those things that hit him. She was the one who said it was an accident with her phone in her hand even though the flat was smashed up and she was still kicking off when the police arrived. She had to be restrained by the police but people leave all of that out.

As someone whose sibling died by suicide, this is my additional worst nightmare. I thank my lucky stars every single day.

Me rail.

Has anyone else read Lewis’ thread? I couldn’t sleep and have gone down a rabbit hole now this new documentary has brought everything up again.

Anyway does anyone who had read it think this poster is Christine? She initially comes on and says she’s a friend of both Caroline and Lewis, I’m only half way through the thread but she says the same things Christine says in interviews and never backs any of her claims up, just keeps repeating the same “I know them you don’t”
It’s crazy that this person is using this as example of Lewis being cruel when he was just doing exactly what anyone would be advised to do in that situation, go clear your head, take some space for yourself and turn your phone off. They were also supposed to not have any contact with one another. It’s once again extremely manipulative of her to threaten him with suicide if he doesn’t answer her or come home.

Couldn’t agree more! He totally gas lit her and she lashed out in a drunken moment! I can’t believe he then sent his friend pics of her blood all over the bed! Absolute scum bag!

I do believe the police handled it badly, i dont think lewis was to blame if it were any of us we would also call the police. Is he allowed to move on? Yes she is gone he has to move on with his life

it is a shame she took her own life, her family should have moved her in with them as soon as possible knowing the past history of mental health

The tabloids are a disgrace especially posting that blood photo when it turns out it was her own blood

Whilst I agree with the general point of your post, some of what you say is inaccurate. They know it was a phone not the lamp. She didn’t have any drugs in her system. These details from factual reports were released publicly.

She may have been angry but the very clear driver behind this was a significant mental health condition for which she should have sought help.

The rest of this isn't in response to your post, it's just my general thoughts.

If you reach the point where you are behaving unacceptably (in this case by assaulting someone), you have a responsibility to seek help. I realise she was embarrassed and that there was probably a a long list of other reasons she didn't feel she could but I still think she had the capacity to admit she needed help.

I think Lewis probably did behave poorly in the relationship but that doesn't make what happened any less wrong. We don't know if there had been previous incidences of that type of thing. It would be a lot to cope with.

I don't think she was a 'bad' or unpleasant person. She just wasn't able to make healthy choices. If that incident hadn't occurred or hadn't become public, it would likely have been a short lived relationship anyway because she evidently wasn't in the right head space to be able to maintain a healthy relationship.

He did absolutely the right thing not coming back from his holiday. Again, that must have been an incredibly hard position for him to be in. I'm pleased he was able to prioritise his mental wellbeing at that point.
this is honestly one of the most well balanced posts i’ve seen here. i feel empathy for both caroline and lewis tbh: lewis more so in this exact scenario because he was the victim of an actual physical assault but, like you say, i don’t think caroline at that time was in any kind of position to make healthy decisions.

lewis’ reaction to what happened, including taking the photo, is completely understandable and what caroline’s mum is saying is plainly unfair. but equally, i think caroline gets an incredibly harsh rep because she (posthumously and against her will) has become sort of the figurehead for the #bekind movement and gets the backlash of people finding that tiresome. it’s an unbelievably complicated situation but i end up feeling sorry for both of them: if that makes any sense.

caroline’s mother also obviously isn’t in a great mind frame either but so much of what she implied in the doc was just unfair. also a very strange contrast between her being protective of caroline’s memory and yet also sharing personal messages that she would presumably have been mortified over people hearing. let the woman rest.

Just finished the doc and it to me it shows where the problem lies - her mum is a massive enabler and helped brush Caroline’s mental health issues under the rug. It’s clear from the other documentary that she most likely has undiagnosed BPD. Her mum is now deflecting and blaming the police/ her friends when she could’ve done so much more herself like physically be present when Caroline was in “hiding” after the DV incident. The whole documentary was her just downplaying her daughter’s violence and trying to pretend it wasn’t as bad as it was apparently a phone rather than a lamp. I know one of the officers who attended and they gave them BOTH first aid. His injury was bad enough to require it too which Caroline’s mum tried arguing wasn’t the case. I was told about this incident and her suicide before it hit the news. This officer also said she was fully off her face on coke which they also love to leave out
As someone who is close to Caroline’s family, please don’t lie. Caroline needed urgent medical attention - her wrists were cut to the muscle - more than just first aid. There was not much more than a half hour difference between her being pronounced dead and it hitting the news, so I’d be surprised if you knew before. And she was not ‘off her face on coke’, they were both drugs tested and she came back clear. They had both been drinking a lot.

I’ll be honest, I’m getting more and more angry about how the mother is going around everywhere and anywhere whitewashing Caroline’s many issues and minimising the DV that took place by Caroline against her ex-partner. It’s becoming malicious.
