it's like crack cocaine to a toddler
Never a truer word spoken about breastfeeding 🤣🤣

it’s not about fed being best. Fed is not an option. It’s a requirement of life.
I agree wholeheartedly. I hate seeing “fed is best” when actually it’s completely bare minimum to feed your child. I understand how and why people use it, but really it’s rather ridiculous, IMO. I am all for people choosing what they want for their kid, you go on ahead and feed them how you like, but its still a stupid phrase that needs changed.

When you stand in the school playground you can’t tell how any child was fed as a baby.
While that is absolutely true, it is an undeniable, scientific fact that breastfeeding is the biologically normal way for babies to be fed, and that doing so has a host of health benefits for mother and baby. Every family is free to choose their own feeding method, however scientific evidence tells us that the benefits of breastfeeding last a lifetime. So while you may not be able to see them, they are there inside any breastfed children in a playground.

I haven’t said you feed just milk however milk should be their main meal until really close to 1. Weaning should come more natural. I did baby lead weaning with kids I looked after and my own child and find filling up a baby with baby rice or rubbish cereal it’s really not a good idea

I suppose it’s up to parents to feed their kids whatever they want. Hey why stop at baby rice and not feed them pies at 4 months. [emoji2358][emoji2358][emoji2358]

Also ruining your kids gut it’s dangerous it might not kill them but they will suffer their whole life. IBS is one of the things can happen to kids weaned to early. I for one was not prepared to take that risk with my baby. For an extra month or two of just milk?
"There is really 0 rush! They don’t need anything but formula or Brest milk until they are 1." These were your exact words! And please dont be facetious lol. Funny I have 4 healthy adult kids with no stomach problems (and none fed on pies ffs [emoji849][emoji849]).
I appreciate not everyone has same experiences but do people not have any common sense any more? Most Mothers know their own babies, without some do gooder ramming advice down their throats. And as an aside - most of todays advice will be old hat in another couple of years too. Your babies will be telling you experienced Mums in years to come, that you know jack shit [emoji1787][emoji1787]

My first was that baby who cried. I would go and sit in the tv lounge in the middle of the night and feed her so no one would tut at me. No midwives ever helped, when I asked they would just put her on my boob without asking if they could touch me. After two days I cracked and asked to feed her formula after they gave me a breastpump and told me to express and I got nothing out. They wouldn't let me feed her formula as they said it would upset her so they took her away and bought her back stuffed to the gills with formula. When I was discharged they told me not to let her go hungry and to top her up. But I'm a determined lass when I k ow what I want. It took me 8weeks but eventually i breastfed her exclusively until she stopped at 22 mths despite a very unsupportive health visitor and slow gaining baby. My second was a dream to feed, ten minutes then four hours between and she piled the weight on. I fed her until she was 4 😆 then my third was a nightmare. Tongue tie, then slow weight gain etc but we got there and I fed him till he was 3.

If you actually read the research comparing breastfed and bottle-fed babies in the developed world… almost all of it finds the health benefits of breastfeeding to be non-existent, marginal, or impossible to disentangle from other aspects of a baby’s life

Im really pro breastfeeding - fed my daughter until she was 2 and 13 months in with my son. What no one really tells you is the total exhaustion you will suffer feeding a new born baby every 2 hours around the clock. What I find really frustrating is the number of women I’ve met who seemingly just use “I didn’t produce enough milk” as an excuse. It’s supply and demand - the more you feed/express the more milk you make. Honestly in real life I’ve not even met a single mum who has actually been honest and has said I just didn’t want to breast feed as it’s always veiled with an excuse.
I didn't want to breast feed. No excuses, no bullshit, I just didn't want to. I had it put on my maternity notes not to even approach me about it. I even made a polite notice for above my hospital bed that no one is come over about it. I just simply didn't want to do it.

The thing is you have to struggle through the pain to get to the point where its easy. I was in so much pain for I think almost a month as my nipples got used to having someone latched to them and with both my kids at the beginning it felt like they were always attached to me while feeding was established and then one day it was just the easiest thing ever.

I have never got on with expressing it is not an easy option at all and I think mums who manage to express to feed their children are amazing. I used to struggle to provide my eldest son with two bottles of milk whilst he was at nursery so I gave him formula for nursery.

Ultimately I think all feeding decisions are nobody elses business if she wants to breastfeed I think its great shes showing its not as easy in the beginning as it appears on tv. I was shocked by this as my mum and sister never mentioned how much it hurt until I tried to do it with my eldest.
I also think if she wanted to bottle feed then thats great too.

Mums should not be shamed for their feeding choices.

This!

I was in a care unit after my child was born and a couple came back in with their daughter. I've never been so angry I don't think. Readmitted to hospital, taking up a bed, screaming all through the night with at least 2 midwives at a time with them. Why? Mum was determined to breastfeed and couldn't. The kid was miserable, and just needed feeding but she flat out refused any alternative. They were in for days, absolute waste of resources and money for the worlds most selfish mother. Purely disgusting.
I was young and hate to say it..I let them persuade me to keep going..I was knackered, he was hungry and losing weight. My mam said at the point of those 4 nurses prodding and poking " get that baby a bottle"! I was so greatful to her! These people who ram breastfeeding down your throat really need to pipe down! They of course can have their opinion, but when they use it to try to belittle others or insinuate they're lieing about why they didn't. That is uncalled for and too far!!

I dont know who she is so haven't seen her posts.
If I had a good breastfeeding journey/relationship then I would probably post about it on my wall too (if I were an influencer)
I dont think enough people show breastfeeding.
No one bats an eye at a bottle in a photo or of someone sitting bottle feeding but the minute its a breast, the mother is lambasted for showing off or looking for attention etc.
Its just a baby being fed. Nothing more and nothing less.

Breast is best vs fed is best just turns my stomach. To me everyone has go feed their babies otherwise they'll die. Its what you do otherwise as a parent that really is important. Are you there for your child as much as you can be enotionally and physically. Are you encouraging their development etc... now to talk about breast feeding solely. I'm glad I've done it. I've loved breast feeding my children and they love it too. Fed my son til 3 and feedingg my 20 month old now too.

Imagine being so discontent in yourself that you feel the need to argue that people who provide links to lists of scientific research are somehow wrong because they haven’t done the research themselves 🤨

If breastfeeding has no benefits why is recommended by government health organisations worldwide? Honestly, some people’s desire to be so against breastfeeding that they lose sight of their common sense absolutely astounds me.

Imagine the shoe was on the other foot - God forbid your child had a minor illness and needed medical treatment or a prescription paid for by tax payers and somebody said to you "waste of resources that could have been prevented if you had breastfed." Your comment is unacceptable either way and "purely disgusting."
I'd be over the moon if all he had going for him was a minor illness. Poor lad is on his 2nd open heart surgery and more in future and hes only 5. However birth defects have shit to do with breastfeeding, so my point is moot. But does explain WHY I detest seeing resources wasted on those who don't need it. Admission back to hospital for help with breast feeding is bullshit when there are babies in the next bed suffering with real illness.

Theres no way the other mum was acting in her kids best interest trying to force breastfeeding. She was practically starving her own child being too stubborn to give a bottle. I thought when you had kids you put then first not ridiculous social ideals.

I don't "lecture"just because I have a different opinion , I'm stating facts and expressing misunderstanding at why people don't chose to give babies the best.
And horror at opinions like yours which are damaging.
My needs are certainly not being met - no sleep or time to myself, but it is a worthy sacrifice to give my baby the best start. His needs come first.
Well when you have raised 4 happy healthy Kids to Adulthood , please come back to me and tell me how to do it correctly Dear. You cant teach your Granny to suck eggs 😆

Absolutely, breastfeeding will not prevent lots of conditions , it's just risk lowering. Genetics/fate probably play a bigger role.
The benefits are grossly exaggerated, it’s been suggested it’s playing a part in the Anti vax movement (the over exaggerated claims). It’s good but it’s not greatly better than formula. Minuscule in the grand scheme. It’s like when the NHS says “obesity is crippling the NHS, cardiovascular disease on the rise” more than half of people with cardiovascular disease are not obese so the numbers suggest thin people are crippling the NHS. Doesn’t make a good headline though. I work in statistics, I like the numbers not the theories and carefully selected data.

She’s tipped me Over the edge. Her post about bottle feeding, the fed is best crew lapping it up. They do realise the whole thing is an AD
I’m part of the fed is best crew but advertising baby formula is a no (I’m also not a fan of pushy midwives/mums who make any mum who can’t/doesn’t want to breastfeed feel like a failure). In fact I wish all baby mums would keep their kids feeding/nappy schedule off Facebook/insta. Too much over sharing on what should be private moments!

I'd love any advice anyone could give me on breastfeeding after a c section. I really struggled getting my son to latch properly last time so we gave up as he eventually just stopped trying when presented with the nipple (he had formula from a cup and was a big boy at 10lb 5, not sure if this contributed)
I’m training in breastfeeding peer support. Babies weight does not affect feeding. Their tummies are still tiny at birth, about the size of a cherry. It’s bottles that overstretch them quickly. Contact breastfeeding groups local to you, latching is a natural instinct and sometimes the way you hold baby is enough to get the right latch. Hope it goes well for you xx
