Wow! I know exactly the kind of person you are by that comment. Carry on with your Mum shaming. Your attitude is exactly why some Mums suffer from PND. You almost sound like a health visitor who has no compassion.
It’s not mum shaming it’s science. As I said people can choose how they feed their babies but that’s what it is- a choice, and it’s not the best one. From your reply I know exactly how you’ve fed and why you are so defensive about it.

This!

I was in a care unit after my child was born and a couple came back in with their daughter. I've never been so angry I don't think. Readmitted to hospital, taking up a bed, screaming all through the night with at least 2 midwives at a time with them. Why? Mum was determined to breastfeed and couldn't. The kid was miserable, and just needed feeding but she flat out refused any alternative. They were in for days, absolute waste of resources and money for the worlds most selfish mother. Purely disgusting.
What a disgusting post 😡

It was deffo less fun for those around her, and the already stretched to the max midwives. So yes. I would use the word selfish. Poor baby was starving and unhappy. In this case mum was putting her needs before the childs. A bottle was the solution ffs
I expect you made her feel uncomfortable also? I was told people were complaining about my baby crying as I was struggling to breadtfeed. The midwife said ‘can I give her a bottle’. I said no and rightly so.

Informed is best. Yes all women can choose how to feed their babies. You can’t deny the benefits of breastmilk though. Or the negatives of formula milk. Many woman say they “failed” you didn’t fail at all, you were failed by the services who should of supported you to continue with breastfeeding

She said something about “can’t breastfeed”? Funny that, she said a while back that she breastfed for the first 5 weeks 🤔
Just because she did at the start doesn’t mean she would be able to for longer. I hate these posts debating what type of feeding she’s doing. It’s no ones business but hers. And that’s coming from someone who finds it very annoying and rude when someone asks if I’m bf. What’s it got to do with anyone

Just curious, would you breastfeed? As that’s dairy.
This made me think about everything. I know that sounds strange but I've never thought about our breastmilk being dairy 😂 now I feel like a 35 week pregnant cow ready to be milked 😂

Not sure how I quoted my own post there. So if we take the SIDS risk as a baseline, everything you do is either a protective factor, or a risk factor. Breastfeeding, as the biological norm, is taking into account when calculating the baseline. Formula isn’t, and therefore raises the risk above baseline.
Absolutely love these posts. So often it’s “the benefits of breastfeeding” as if formula is somehow the norm and if you then breastfeed it’s a bonus. When in actual fact, as you say, it’s the opposite. But people are too scared to say that in case it offends formula feeders (and I can see why hearing “formula feeding increases the risk of XYZ” would upset people who are just trying to do their best, to be fair) Even in one of my own posts I said the benefits of bf, and wanted to clarify but didn’t want to get attacked for that. So it’s great to see someone saying it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

One thing I am really passionate/obsessed about is children safety. I will not pick on a mum that can’t bond with her baby or is struggling with certain things but I will pick on someone who will feed her baby too early. Baby’s tummy is ready for real food between 4-6 months however you can’t be sure the exact time. Some babies might be ready at 4 months but how can you be sure. So to be on the safe side you are supposed to wean at 6 months. Yes yes 20 years ago there was a different advice but we have evolved, science and all that. So it’s bad to wean too early because you run the risk of you baby having gut problems all their life. I was weaned early and I have had tummy problems. There is really 0 rush! They don’t need anything but formula or Brest milk until they are 1
Some of what you said is 100% true and great but the last thing you wrote had me laughing you try feeding a baby of just milk until 1, mine would be starved , grumpy & wouldn't sleep if I only ever have them milk!🙄

So you put your own stubbornness over your crying, hungry child.

And I'M the disgusting one? Please! 😂
As previously posted this happened to me within an hour of giving birth. I was left alone, still in the delivery suite with my husband and baby and was attempting to breastfeed. My baby cried for a little while when a Midwife walked in and told me other mothers were complaining about my baby crying and could she give her a bottle.

This disgusted me that not only did other mothers complain but that a Midwife spoke to me in such a rude way rather than help me to latch my baby on.

People say Midwives push breast feeding but I experienced the opposite. I got very little support.

You assumed a lot about that other couple.

It seems to me this is not a thread about breastfeeding. It should be renamed the bottle feeding thread.

And I have to disagree there too. There is lots of support for breast feeding, sure its all thats pumped at new mums. I note you say you have nothing but sympathy for mums "who TRIED but couldn't feed"? So the others who decided not to ,are not worth mentioning. They aren't proper mothers? Whats your view on natural v caesarian birth? I suppose women who dont give birth naturally are not in your mummy brigade either, or couldnt possibly bond the same way?
I don't have a mummy brigade please don't make this something it's not.
I said earlier back in this feed openly, I cant quite comprehend why if someone knew the benefits why they wouldn't try.
No judgements on birth, parenting or bonding , il leave that up to you to make snarky comments and assumptions 😉, you're good at it.

Breastfeeding support from
NHS seems to be a bit of a postcode lottery. All funding has been cut in my region. However as this thread clearly demonstrates, peer support from
Other women and family is not there. "Just give a bottle" seems to be the answer to any bumps in the road and it's the last thing many mums want to hear.

Lol at condescending pompous fool 😂 Thanks!
You posted a damaging opinion that as soon as baby has a tooth and can hold a cup they should be weaned - and I challenged it.
All I can say is this...I had no milk. None , nada..I tried until I was physically and mentally exhausted and he'd lost weight. At the time I felt hopeless.. now, I look at my eldest all these years later, 6ft tall and doing great. Maybe formula isn't/wasn't ideal. But no-one should be vilified for bottle feeding their child.

Such an emotive subject. Why is this being discussed here though? I'm pro feed your baby however you see choose. I support fellow parents in their choice. I did both and I can assure you shes fine. Fine I tell you. Hasn't become ill from formula and isnt attached or demanding from the breast milk. I'm so fucking fed up of this stupid debate. I feel for any new parent. Honestly. Sick of it.
I don’t get why you clicked a topic entitled “breast feeding” - if you’re sick of debating it? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t think there are gonna be many 7 year olds still breastfeeding at all but a lot of mothers who have done natural term breastfeeding admit to doing it behind closed doors because of the stigma associated with it, so I don’t think many mothers in the western world would come forward and admit to feeding a 7 year old, I read a bbc article about a year ago about Inuit communities where it was very much the norm to be breastfeeding 5 year olds, so 7 is entirely possible in communities where natural term breastfeeding is just normal practice, like lots of communities in remote villages all around the world where food can be scarce
I had this discussion with a health visitor, breastfeeding is very under reported. I know from personal experience I was never asked if I was still breastfeeding at the 2 year check, and in fact they ticked no each time without even checking. I was still breastfeeding past the age of 2. Breastfeeding older children carries a lot of stigma, fear of being reported to social services (which has happened to people) or just noone asking the questions. I was part of the la leche league for a few years and there were a lot of mums still breastfeeding at 4 or 5 years. It.would be good to get more accurate figures.

I agree. I don’t think people actually have a problem with BF. It’s completely normal.

However I really find it uncomfortable when women post pics of them BF or do it in public. It’s awkward. I don’t want to see a strangers big veiny boob being flopped out. And I think that’s how others feel. It’s not that they think BF is wrong it’s the fact they don’t want to see it.
I think it can be done tastefully. There is an ex-slimming world instagrammer who always has her boobs out on insta (thefeebsfeed - she has a thread on here), just for the sake of it. And it’s tedious.
I hope Zoe keeps it tasteful and doesn’t go on a big BF crusade as there are many women who can’t BF for various reasons and it can be detrimental to their well-being when others are showing off about it

well I know my 2 year old is absolutely nowhere near ready to self wean, she might surprise me one day but at the moment she is a little boob monster, her little face lights up with happiness when I start lifting up my top! She hasn’t had her two year check yet but the HV didn’t bother asking at her one year check, I will admit I’ve started ‘going underground’ with the breastfeeding now as I’ve started to get a few questions from family and friends about when I’m going to stop and I just can’t be arsed trying to explain to them how the breastfeeding relationship is so much more then food, I can’t believe anyone would report to social services!! Just goes to show how little is understood about bf and how far away from the biological norm our society has moved.
I always had "will you still be feeding them when she goes to school?". I've got a lovely photo of my middle feeding in her school uniform. My In laws were a bit twitchy about it all, no idea why because I weren't asking them to breastfeed my kids, but my Polish grandfather in law loved I was still feeding them because it made them "strong as bull" 😆. My health visitor was desperate to tell me how damaging it was that my child was still cosleeping at 4 (I pointed out that me and their dad were in our 30s and still coslept 🙄😆). My kids are confident, social happy kids so I happily gave her the middle finger.

Id rather not use the term adverse affects , don't want to be accused of vilifying! Rather - - benefits of breastfeeding. There are many but the most published research shows breastfed babies/adults have higher IQ, are at lower risk of many physical diseases and improved mental health. Mums health risks are also lowered with regards to many cancers and other diseases.
Google will give you all you want to find. 🙂
Ok Thankyou. I can only comment on my own experiences. I can't prove or disprove any of the above. I can only say, my children have all had to have formula. As explained, I had no milk with all 4 pregnancies. So far my eldest is heading to 6th form and my others are doing well. My youngest has autism..But that isn't connected. I'm thankful for each of them. My nan breastfed 7.They're all so different, intelligence and healthwise. Lots of factors contribute to our health and maybe some of it is fate?

I don't thing that's what was meant. We all know it's a matter of getting used to it. However, there are people who somehow cover it. If i'm feeling hot for some reason, I'm not gonna get naked, right? Even though I feel like it. And a baby being hungry is as legit as me not feeling well because it's too hot.

This said, I really don't have that much of a problem with breast feeding in public. But we should find a middle ground. My mom has told me she didn't have a problem breastfeeding me in public, but she always carried some sort of cloth to cover the boob, so she could have some privacy, even though she was in public.
So glad to know you don’t have a problem with breastfeeding in public. So long as you don’t see any boobs, right? 😂 😂 top logic

I personally couldn’t give a shit what people think about me feeding my baby in public. My rule is, if you wouldn’t be offended by me bottle feeding a baby in that situation, then you have no right to think any differently about me getting a boob out. In the words of the moronic Mrs Hinch, if you don’t like it, don’t look at itttt
