I've been doing that a lot for books and audiobooks and all the recommendations so far have been good! Interestingly the most chat gpt recommended book for me to read next is The Count of Monte Christo! I think chat gpt is a tattler

Currently reading Project Hail Mary which I’ve been putting off for so long, though I’ve no idea why I’ve been putting it off. I’m enjoying it but admittedly have to read some of the science stuff a few times, because I am just not science brained at all

I started Blood & Roses a few days ago and I'm enjoying it so far
I used to be a book hoarder. I still am to a degree but on my Kindle more than physical copies. 10k is excessive and I'm not surprised the building objected because from those images it doesn't look like he had a system for organisation and it does look like a big fire hazard. It looks like he's just rescued stuff from libraries culling old stock from the stickers on some of the spines. Sometimes there's a reason nobody else wanted that book.
I worked in a library about 15 years ago and it was closing for a huge refurb. We skipped loads of books and people kicked off about it but literally nobody wants a 1978 atlas or the Guinness Book of records 1998. Most of it was absolute junk but people treat book disposal as some sort of crime against humanity. It's not the same as Nazi book burning. It's just tit that's not been borrowed for a decade and is taking up space in the stacks.
I love books but sometimes you have to accept that there is no reason to keep the 1967 complete Children's Encyclopedia Britannica. I threw my ex library set away (bought from Leeds Library sale in about 1986 for £2 for 20 volumes) in the end because there is no reason to keep it.
I agree, although I try and use old encyclopedias etc.for papercrafting!
That does seem a bit like hoarding/obsessive collecting but I would think just getting them organised would help? Would they throw out someone with a massive walk in wardrobe full of clothes, which could also be highly flammable?
I wonder if it was the untidiness rather than the volume of books that was the problem.

I feel like the fire hazard excuse is pretty flimsy, anything you own can be flammable. Most people's wardrobes are full of polyester... should we force them to go around naked?
But the concept of needing 10,000 physical books is definitely hoarder territory. No one needs 10,000 anything. Even if he really did read a book a day, which he most likely doesn't, he'd need almost 3 decades to read them all. And that's assuming he didn't keep buying more. And that he even wants to do that.
In the article the bookseller says something like "this guy understands that the only way to keep knowledge is to own books" and I get it. I get that the Amazon Powers That Be could wake up tomorrow and erase our entire Kindle libraries because we don't actually really own those books. But posession just for possession's sake is capitalist bs.

No way I'd get evicted from my 56m² upper east side studio for books 
(even the staircase looks fancy !) The NY public library isn't that far and I can rent a storage unit if I really want to keep super niche books
Edit : in one picture you can see the enormous Bailly book (for translation in latin/greek) which he can borrow anytime at the library (or get a small edition or just use internet). Now, I wish I could Marie Condo his books
