Ooooh you should look into Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez. It’s a few years old now so some of the information may not be entirely current but it gives a great reflection of gender bias.
Can you give an example of one such book that ignited an interest?? I love finding out about the weird and random rabbit holes that folk fall into.
I tend to read a lot of history so I started with Henry 8th then on to his wives, then his kids then his father, his friends etc and then onto what came before and the war of the roses. And more recent history will lead onto politics too. The start of the year I read one book on the Romans and then had to read more.
I read some Jane Austen last year then ended up reading autobiography books about the Brontes (kinda connected) as I’d bought them as kindle deals.

Well that is rather impressive! Tbf I think delving into history is different to other kinds of non fic where it might be quite niche or like the self development side of things. . Podcasts definitely help and then that leads to books which leads to more podcasts and so on - I can’t remember when I last watched tv Despite being my first obsession the Tudors being everywhere annoys me - they are nowhere near the most interesting part of history!!!!
yes definitely. One of things I used to love about being able to sort the 99p monthly deals to categories was finding interesting non fiction books on a niche subject I’d never have thought to read before. For some reasons it’s not quite the same when you have to scroll through them all

What’s everyone reading this weekend? I don’t want to tempt fate but it’s finally ideal reading outside weather (aka sun but a breeze) here atm so I’m using that as an excuse to not do any of my planned adulting this afternoon.
Ugh. I’ve gone from reading three books a week to two a month. The guilt is unreal. But I’ve found my feet with work again and I’m really thriving there but by the time I log off I am brain dead and want only tattle and Instagram. I only read at wkend and even then what used to be half a book a day is now a quarter!

i usually try and read all the romances i keep picking up from the works during august but it was so diabolical last year that i can’t face it. i did just finish one of the windy city books though and wow those could be several hundred pages shorter
(and also, that man should have gotten a paternity test)How are you with audiobooks? Could you listen to one when you're cooking dinner or going on a walk?
I am trying to listen to them more when I don't feel up to reading and would normally distract myself with a dumb youtube video or podcast.
(Currently as some of you know I am working my way slowly through Middlemarch on audiobook!)
I second listening to audiobooks when you are trapped doing a chore like washing dishes and preparing dinner. I get though 1 a week just listening to them doing my kitchen chores.
Ive just had a two week holiday and read 10 books! But when I get home on Sunday you can bet your life im back to just reading a couple a week. Mind you, out of the 10 books, I only really loved one, the rest were pretty mediocre.

Hero by Patricia Wolf. The latest in the DS Walker crime series.
They're Australian, set mostly in the Outback. I read a lot less crime than I used to, but I really enjoy this series.
The first four are on Unlimited, and I'd been waiting for this one to go on, but it's been months so I snapped it up on 99p!
It’s weird but I cannot do audiobooks or podcasts lately. I’m very very sensitive to noise and smells. Every neighbour is driving me mental. And I suddenly can’t even abide my perfume or fabric softener. I think it’s a peri thing.
The Party Crasher by Sophie Kinsella. I'm enjoying it.
Scissors Paper Stone by Elizabeth Day. Pretty good so far

As I was reading it I was thinking yes this is going to be 4 stars. Then that crept up to 4.5 and then I reached the last chapter during which I was bawling, but at the end feeling curiously short-changed, as I never got to find out what happened after she said "everything's about to get really bad".
I demand that she writes a sequel to put this right!!!
I'm not going to be spiteful and drop half a point for this, so I'm still going to give it 5 stars, but I'm definitely miffed!
