I've finished The Strength of the Few. Phew! Ending on yet another cliffhanger. Still found the split worlds quite tedious, but I did come to like them all separately at the end. Was NOT expecting Aequa to get squished. Roll on the next one.
That's so fun! The crew mentioned in one of their interviews that they were sent the film to watch while they were in quarantine. https://www.archive.is/oldest/https...ence/2026/apr/04/project-hail-mary-artemis-iiThis is bookish (Project Hail Mary). I’m watching the live coverage of the Artemis II mission and Houston just responded to the crew with amaze amaze amaze.
i liked it - but i always enjoy those types of really quirky way too ott american family stories. i can absolutely see why you wouldn’t enjoy it as it really didn’t go anywhere and a lot of the humour was at the expense of making them actual believable characters. it had a very wes anderson vibe though which always works for meJust finished Lost Lambs- ermmmm what was that?
Did not like it at all, no character development, the 2 different aspects of story was all over the place and didnt mesh. I would have preferred it if it was just kept as a dysfunctional family type book.
has anyone else read it? What were your thoughts?
My local Shelter charity shop sells any 10 books/CDs/ DVDs for £1!! I have found some lovely books in there last find was copy of Sherlock Holmes collected storiesCharity shops are amazing for books.
I’ve been tempted by this but reminded myself to stick to my ‘avoid hype’ rule and now I’m glad I’ve finally managed to find some willpower!Just finished Lost Lambs- ermmmm what was that?

I expected to love it as it has that quirky vibe that usually appeals but I was so very meh about it. I think it just tried too hard.I’ve been tempted by this but reminded myself to stick to my ‘avoid hype’ rule and now I’m glad I’ve finally managed to find some willpower!

this is completely fair!I don’t even know how to explain this properly but the characters just felt really one-dimensional to me. Like each of them had these big, dramatic storylines (, but that’s all they were.terrorism grooming, conspiracy theories that randomly turn out to be kinda true, and possible trafficking etc)
We never really see who they were before any of this, and there’s barely any proper development after either. They just exist as these extreme situations rather than actual people, if that makes sense.
I feel like the book had a lot going on but none of it was properly fleshed out, so it just didn’t hit the way it was probably meant to
Hahha already forgotten their names too!this is completely fair!
the youngest daughter (i’ve already forgotten all of their names, which is maybe a sign of how it doesn’t stick with you) in particular just didn’t feel like a real character. the way she spoke for someone who was, i think, supposed to eleven years old was wild.
Agreed! I also enjoyed sorrow and bliss. Was so disappointed in her third novelYou be mother by Meg Mason is on the 99p daily deals and I highly recommend it. Read it a few years ago and absolutely adored it.
oh didn’t realise she had a third book out? I can see on good reads she has an upcoming one in summer 2026, is that the one?Agreed! I also enjoyed sorrow and bliss. Was so disappointed in her third novel![]()
