Book FOMO is definitely a thing! I had Author FOMO this year - I bought Katabasis because I thought I should probably give R.F Kuang a go give how popular Babel and Yellowface and The Poppy War are and I liked the premise of this new one the most. But have I finished it? Nope. Will I ever? Who knows!
Yellowface was dire

Need some Kindle advice please!

I have a Paperwhite from 2022 and I love it. I use it every day! Now my husband has an older Kindle that doesn’t have a backlight so he can’t read it in bed. It’s sat untouched for years as he can’t read it without having a light on and he only reads in bed unless we’re on holiday. He reads from the Kindle app on his phone every night with the screen lighting up the whole room and hurting his eyes (and mine!). I’ve no idea what to get him for Christmas so thought about a Kindle. I’ve spotted the standard Kindle for between £94-104 on Amazon which feels better than the price for a Paperwhite.

Is the standard one any good? Will he be able to read it in bed with no light on. Can I get it cheaper anywhere else?

Thanks!

Before I got a paperwhite earlier this year I had a backlit standard kindle for years. Its perfect for reading in the dark, just as easy as paperwhite imo. Have to say apart from the paperwhite being more responsive (my old kindle was quite old, and had slowed down and froze a lot), I cant actually tell the difference!

Excellent - happy to know I can save some money.

I agree. I don’t recall thinking it was well written at all and the ending was rushed and so far fetched. I am intrigued by Babel and Katabasis as Yellowface is the only Kuang I’ve read, however I don’t get why some people think it was great.

• A Heart for Christmas is rit and yet I’m gonna carry on with it

• This year was THE YEAR to reduce my Kindle unread. I’ve enjoyed going through them alphabetically and will continue to do so next year

• I’ve read 60/50 books in total this year

• The last two nights I’ve spent reading the new Lisa Jewell, borrowed from the library. 100 pages each night which I’m hella proud about!

Today’s Heart for Christmas chapter summed up in one sentence.

April took a giant leap and dipped some bread in the fondue, and Augustin wouldn’t kiss her in case she got sick
But you forgot to mention the all important coffee pot!

i didn’t overly mind yellowface though the ending was AWFUL but do not read babel unless you want to be sent into rage by footnotes and an author who thinks she is much much smarter than you 🤣

I’ve read more books than ever this year but seem to have ended the year with more on my kindle 🤔🤔. I did go in the library today and didn’t take out a book 🙌🙌

I think I might have a count up of my unread books and keep a tally of how many I buy each month to see what the net gain or loss is next year (probably horrific gain and I’ll never do it again 😂)

Heart for Christmas- I’ve never known so many exclamation marks! So many!

And I’m a millennial, we love our exclamation marks!

I’m going to do this! My aim is to use more of the freebies I’ve got access too! Whether I’ll stick to it! 😂 different question all together but I just know if I went back to the library I’d probably have some more 5* reads rather than falling for the tik tok garbage everyone peddles (not here, you lot are great

I started the year off with a resolution not to buy any more books, particularly kindle books. I started the year on 183 Kindle books TBR, ended on 199. Plus got a load more physical books. Think I can safely say I failed!
