Nearly finished Hands of Time: A Watchmaker's History of Time by Rebecca Struthers. It's a history of watches mixed with a memoir by one of the few independent watchmakers still working in the UK.
Sound a bit dry I know but I'm mad for history of science books.
After that, I'll be metaphorically throwing a dart at my ever increasing TBR
Lessons in Chemistry , picked it up this morning and enjoying it so far. I don’t know what I expect from the story. I’ve held off watching the series until reading the book.

I’m reading Mayflies by Andrew O’Hagan this weekend. It’s about the friendship between two young men growing up in Thatcher’s Scotland mid 1980s.
I enjoyed his Caledonian Road and am really enjoying this too.

Waterstones have done an absolute dirty with the triple points. I checked the Ts and Cs and it does include pre-orders. I’ve got a £105 basket sitting in my account, half are pre-orders and half are not. What pre-orders does everyone have? I’m going to see if I can pay nothing now and still get £30 of points

One of my all time favourites too. Ive been thinking about reading it again recently so this might be my sign to pick it up!
Finished Sunrise on the Reaping, the second prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy. Don't know if it's right to say it's enjoyable given what happens it in! Was an easy read.
Next book is Murder at the Black Cat Cafe by Seishi Yokomizo. Think it's only 200 pages so should be finished in no time.

I'm finishing La Belle Sauvage: Book of Dust Vol 1 - I'm enjoying it so far, it's the prequel to His Dark Materials by Pullman. His Dark Materials got me back into reading during the pandemic, so it feels nice to go back to that 'world' of HDM. I've already got Vol2+3 waiting on my shelf.
Good reading day for me. I hit a 500 day streak on StoryGraph and finished Probably Nothing by Lauren Bravo. There’s always something satisfying about finishing a book on the last day of the month to make the stats nice and neat!

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami - sorry Murakami lovers but this fell a bit flat for me, maybe because I had big expectations going in. I just didn’t really connect with any of the characters so ended up not really caring what happened to them.
The Sittaford Mystery by Agatha Christie - wanted a quick palette cleanser and this did the job. She never lets us down!
Somewhere Beyond The Sea by TJ Klune - I think like most reviews on here this was a bit of a let down after THITCS. It had some lovely moments but let down by the preachy-ness elsewhere.
My Friends by Fredrik Backman - One of my favourites of the year. Loved the characters and the story. All the feels!
Probably Nothing by Lauren Bravo - an ok light rom-com read. One of those I enjoyed but it won’t stay with me.

i completely agree with you about somewhere beyond the sea. the whole story was spoilt by the preaching imo and i don’t know how he thought he would get away with that jk rowling insert character. i sort of wish i hadn’t read it as i loved the first one SO much.
