I know exactly what you mean. You wait 70 percent of the book for the slow burn and then the next chapter is just them going at it in their cornflakes.

why do modern romance books not do slow burn at all?! how can i be invested in the relationship if they’ve been banging since chapter four? i want YEARNING and metal breakdowns over fingertips brushing and looking away when the other person looks back what happened to pining 🥲
This is exactly why I love the Strike books so much, still not got it on after 8 whole massive novels! At least I dont think they have haven't read the last 2 yet!this drives me CRAZY

i haven’t read them but i agree because eight books is EXACTLY the type of slow burn i approve of

like when we were supposed to read about 6 novels for a module and I probably read 4 and skimmed the remaining. I was in Waterstones and saw some of them and I thought: should I actually read them now? 🫢
I did struggle to get by at uni though (English Lit) and so sometimes I just ran out of time to read them all as well as do my lectures and essays and be social.
It's so annoying I am not a prude at all but does it hurt to have story

I've been a really good girl and started reading from the pile of books at the side of my bed.
A few pages into the book, which was feeling really familiar, I was thinking "this must be a DNF as it sounds familiar."
Anyway, I ploughed on and it was so NOT a DNF!
I've just emerged at the end of the book about Zara's emotional highs and lows, or should I say Highlands and Lowlands! I've literally cried all the way through the book. I can't believe this book has been sat next to my bed for ages and I haven't read it!

I have to say I'm really debating whether I should unhaul all my Phillipa Ashley books or keep them.

I have read a few of them and they were ok, would I read them again probably not and do I feel any emotional or sentinmental attachment to them no not really so I will probably unhaul them. Tbh I just think my book tastes have changed and as a result I don't read as much chick lit as I used to.
I mean it doesn’t hurt to hang onto a couple for emergencies where you’re not really wanting to think too much
Yeah, I think I'll hang onto a couple of them but unhaul the ones I don't want.
