T.A Williams is a male author who does romance with his books being set in Italy.
For the second time I think the hours listened on my Spotify are completely wrong.
I had 9 hours left in top ups from when it cut me off with 20 mins left and 20 days to go!
I an 8.5 hours into my book which is 13 hours and it is the first book I have read this month on Spotify. It has just cut me off with my hours renewing in about an hour.
Even if I had used all my 15 hours free I should have had plenty of top ups left!!
I don't lend books either due to past offence. So I ticked the one about damage. The last person I learnt a book to was virtually shitting themselves I was told, and returned the book unread as they were so frightened of damaging it as my books are pristine I tell you!!!............apart from the ones I've read to death and it's too expensive to replace them and the secondhand onesThanks for sharing the quiz…although I stalled at the question “when you lend a book” because I don’t lend my booksHowever I got over myself & answered hypothetically & I’m an adventurous reader which I’d say is pretty spot on!
I thought I probably read quite evenly, maybe even slightly more male authors but my 2025 count so far is Male 25 and female 47 so maybe not!
I find female thriller writers can be darker and gorier than men. I still remember reading Mo Hayder’s first 2 Jack Caffrey books when they were released over 20 years ago and how shocked I was at how dark they were. I am planning on rereading them and the whole series one day and wonder if I will have been desensitised now or if they will still be able to shock me.

Ohh that Authority Gap looks right up my street. It looks similar to the Invisible Women book (which made me ragey the whole time I was reading it!!)
I think he was talking about a study that had been done? Not sure which one i had to watch with volume down and haven't been on insta since. Will go and have another look
I read a couple of Cathy Glass fostering memoirs and she also writes thrillers under Lisa Stone. I read one and was kinda shocked that someone who clearly is so caring and nurturing could write such violent, dark thrillers! Tbh I didnt enjoy the one i read, I struggle with dark and violent.
Not books but I have heard similar stats about men not listening to music made by women, for example, and I feel like I've heard similar about other media.

The Authority Gap is great. If you want another rage inducing but fascinating read Unwell Women by Elinor Cleghorn is another I recommend

. As someone else said I saw you can pay to get 15 extra hours but I ended up signing up to audible instead!

I didn't like Lovelight Farms but many people love it.
Unwell Woman and Invisible Women both gave me sooo much rage I think I’ll stay away from the Authrity Gap

I think they’ve got me completely wrong here. I absolutely do not like debating character motivations. My idea of a book discussion is saying ‘Yeach I liked it.’ Or ‘Nah, wasn’t for me.’ Even in my Book Club we just talked why we like or dislike books rather than specific discussions about characters.
On a different note, I finally finished the After series with ‘Before’ on Monday so they can all go to the charity shop now, not a fan of so much unnecessary drama and people acting like idiots.
I’ve read King of Wrath, Pride and Greed in the last couple of weeks which have been nice, easy reads.
I’ve only bought two 99p kindle deals this month But picked up 6 second hand books someone bought in at work so even though I’ve finished 6 books this month I’ve still added 2 to the tbr. I’ve got a lot of free time this week though so hoping to read about 5.
One day my tbr will be at @ordinaryjelly levels - I am amazed you can actually find 700 odd books you want to read every year!

The tbr thing became a mental challenge ß after being about 20 books in. I had almost built a wall in my brain between me || new books.
Then I kept a list of books I wanted to read, I then narrowed that down because some of the books on the list for two years then felt rubbish to me, so I have been carrying 250ish book from then Then I just look on Berts Bees, choose a couple there at random, read some of my detective series, enabledt by here for books, my mum/friends pass books on to me. I go through Sara Cox's Between The Covers List and so on.
It is surprisingly easy to find 3/4 books a wee that are then about 370/400 pages, which can be read in a couple of days. 50 pages in the morning, 170 pages in the afternoon/evening/bedtime and similar again that next day then the book is done. Aside from podcasts and watching things on my tablet I have nothing else to do do, literally less than nothing. I am lucky in that regard
Have you read any of the recommendations for the social butterfly though?
I've already read 2 or 3 of the ones recommended for me. Some of the unread ones have been spoken about on here a lot, so it will be interesting to see if I like them.
