My current read is Claire Douglas - Then She Vanishes . I usually like Claire Douglas books but after reading The List of Suspicious Things i have noticed a difference in the quality of her writing vs Jennie Godfreys writing.

I gave that one 3 stars normally rate Claire's books a bit higher so can't have enjoyed it that much. And tbh I only read it last month and I can't remember much about it all!

I gave that one 3 stars normally rate Claire's books a bit higher so can't have enjoyed it that much. And tbh I only read it last month and I can't remember much about it all!

It’s taken me a little bit of getting into the story . I don’t know if this is because the story isn’t that great or because I loved my previous read so much. I was at the point of DNF but it has picked up a bit so I will continue reading.

I have just finished reading The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey. This is only 5 star read so far this year .

I absolutely loved this book. The characters felt very to me they were real, layered, and full of heart. I felt drawn into the characters lives and the community in which the novel is set.

The story is set in the 1970s, the setting felt very familiar as I was born in the same era. The details rang true: the language used ( whilst im not from Yorkshire I’m from Lancashire I am familiar with the terminology used in the book. The attitudes of people and the atmosphere of the era brought back memories of my own childhood.

The biggest stand out for me is how Jennie Godfrey handled multiple very serious issues that people experience in real life with sensitivity. Issues such as
Domestic violence, alcoholism, racism, misogyny, grief


these issues are all shown through the eyes of a young girl who doesn’t quite know how to make sense of what is happening around her?

I can’t say enough positive things about this book. It is definitely in my top 5 favourite ever reads .

Read it. Loved it. Recommended it to loads of people. 5*

I've made July my Bookouture month where I will only be reading books that have been published by Bookouture and this is the book that I am currently reading:

Just thought I’d drop in with some little book related updates. I miss being as active, and although I’m reading every day (got to keep that kindle streak!), I’m not as immersed with it all as I once was . Life, eh?!

Anyway, I’m now on Q for my kindle reads and my only option is The Quarry Girls. Did anyone read it after they chose it as a First Reads back in October 2022?!

Audio wise, I’m on the last Magnolia Parks. Seriously, how has this series evaded me for so many years?!

I also have until Friday to finish the last Grant County before it’s returned to the library, so that needs to take priority!

In other book news, we have a Waterstones AND a new independent book shop opening soon in our town!

I also have two author events coming up. A panel including TM Logan and then I’m seeing Jacqueline Wilson I actually think I’ll be so nervous on the day, like a first date or something 🥹

I’ve been struggling to read this week. I’ve kept up my kindle streak but the rest of it has been poor.

I’m trying to finish One Night at the Chateau so I can return this and another library book then focus on my bookshelf.

Kindle-wise I’m reading Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.

Audio is The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes but I haven’t listened for ages. I’ll get the head down at work this week.

I’m having a tough time atm. So reading becomes my way to distract my brain and also trying to focus more on wellbeing.
I do think I need to read more self help in the next year or so.. I need to work more on my health and wellbeing and attachment style. I’ve been curious about the book “attached” for a while. Has anyone read it?

Currently have

- The Running Game by Robert Galbraith/JKR (Re-read ready for The Hallmarked Mark)

- The Missing Family by Tim Weaver, my Mum gave it to me. Neither of us realised it is book #13 in a series. I will still read it because I do not need another series to start.

- Once Upon A Lie by Lisa Ballantyne

- Sandwich by Catherine Newman

- Tell No One by Harlan Coben

I have just finish The Ink Black Heart by Robert Galbraith/JKR again a re-reread. I first read these two books in 2022/23 when they were published so had forgotten some of the intricacies. Especially between Cormoran and Robin.

Going to take a Stroke break and perhaps read Sandwich.

I have read two books by Tim Weaver including The Missing Family, I didn't feel like I was missing a great deal not knowing the lore of the series as it's briefly explained when it's needed. I enjoyed it!
