I've not really thought about it, but yes I do seem to. You're very perceptive. Me, I sometimes need to be slapped round the face with a wet haddock to realise.

I remember when I read the Allotment Girls by Kate Thompson and then I saw that you had read it which made me realise that we had similar tastes to one another.

I have just finished Summer Daydreams by Carole Matthews and I have very mixed thoughts as some parts were good but some felt very unrealistic and wouldn't happen as quickly as they did.

I got home to 4 HarperCollins books and a Waterstones pre-order last night so I don’t think I can justify a £75 Waterstones order and should stick to getting the £12.50 cookbook I planned to get during double stamps.

I have some Harper Collins on the way too. I bought 4 but it’s 2 separate parcels.

babel felt so long that there was a point where i couldn’t remember my life before i was reading it

that’s definitely true though, especially with a lot of romances right now, which seem to always stretch a 200 page story into about 600. i liked it but binding 13 had no business being as long as it was. shannon didn’t need to fall in all those puddles!!!

The one thing that could have been done with binding 13 and priory of the orange tree to reduce the page count would be to remove the blah after characters name ‘like the river’ (and mentions of how small Shannon is, 10 page saving ) and with priory ‘of kingdom blah blah land’.

I’m in a slump too because I’ve been really busy and am just exhausted. I’m not even listening to audiobooks as I drive which I usually do. I need to get my arse into gear. I need to read ‘The eyes are the best part’ by Monica Kim for my book club next weekend and hoping that may grab me. Has anyone read it?

Anyone else really struggle when the characters in a book "banter"? Throws me straight out of my immersion. Usually it comes across as trying way too hard. Example the gentlemen bastards series.

Does anyone have any recommendations for online second hand book sellers that is not World of Books please?

Thrift books is US based by shipping to the UK is reasonable. Abebooks is Amazon owned (so some will avoid) & you buy directly from secondhand booksellers around the world. Oxfam also has an online book website but I don’t find it a place with bargains.

I just found my borough has libby but they don;t talk about it. My holy grail is a free UK one that uses Overdrive - thats why i;m trying to get on a US one.. cos it has Kindle availability

fully agree with this. she’s on shaky ground with me after happy place so it’s going to be an on offer in tesco job i think (i say this fully knowing that if i see sprayed edges in the works it is going to come home with me)

Nope I don't use a library @wishiniwasskinny. Usually with me if I see a book that looks interesting then I more often than not get them in the charity shop.

(Unsurprisingly) I had a similar experience with it.
I didn’t feel invested in the characters, some of it felt a bit too unbelievable and it definitely could have been a couple of hundred pages shorter.

exactly how i felt. i didn’t care about a single one of the characters and parts of it were just ridiculous. it was also WAY too long. i feel like he was writing it hoping for it to be turned into a film rather than making a believable book.

Someone at work gifted me The Book that Wouldn't Burn for Christmas, (unsolicited gift, bit awkward as I didn't get anyone anything at work), and she keeps asking if I've read it yet and I'm like not yettttttt, sorry. I hinted I'm in the middle of a long series first. In truth, I have about 50 books on my list I would rather read before this, so I'm tempted to read a plot summary, tell her I read it and thank her and chuck it at a charity shop
