I’ve completely lost my reading mojo, yet really want to get lost in a good book!
Anyone have any tips for getting past a slump?
I read the Marble Hall Murders recently and really enjoyed it, but since then I keep abandoning books!
Really annoying when I can’t get into anything

Now reading Death and Croissants by Ian Moore - a 25p buy from the book stall run at the monthly craft market I attend - and so far so good.

My brother read this recently and found it quite funny if I remember correctly.

I really didn't enjoy it

I saw so many posts saying it is great for fans of Butcher and Blackbird, which I loved, I think I was set up for disappointment.

The first 2/3rds were so slow then the final 1/3 took that mafia turn and it was faster paced but so different from the start I was not a fan.

Oh thats such a weird comparison. Theyre definitely not alike at all. I didnt like the mafia at all but I can see why it went the way it did when I realised there was further books.

Did you see Brynne Weaver has a new book being released as part of another trilogy? Ive read B&B but not the other two but I do own them so really should get to them ha.

Feyre’s art being mentioned reminded me - I did not BUY the artist storyline in All the Colours. I’m assuming it’s a bad as hers.

YES! and that it was being sold for seven figures almost immediately?! even though he was a literal child when he started painting them?! i think not! and also why was saint, an preteen girl, allowed to run around all those cime scenes?!

someone in a goodreads review pointed out that all the characters, including the children, spoke like grizzled sixty-year-olds nursing glasses of bourbon and i equally thought that was accurate strange book!

I know but here in the UK they use Libby that doesnt allow use of Kindles.. in the US via Overdrive it does.. from my personal experience.

IDK why that is or how it works . i dont make the rules and I don't fully understand but with say the NYPL they use Overdrive interface where I can view on my laptop and get it sent to my Kindle. Libby I believe and from what your link states is NOT Kindle compatible.

They are all at it. Writing books with prolific writers. At least it's very clear they aren't solo writing the book. Unlike all the ones that are ghostwritten and not made clear. Even if I don't think they write much more than an idea and some subject specific knowledge.

The one Dolly Parton did with James Patterson was turgid mediocre shite.

Yes! I remember seeing the Hilary Clinton/Louise Penny novel and thinking it seemed sort of unnecessary. Both obviously accomplished in their own fields, but did we really need them to join forces?

Thank you to the person who alerted me to the Ocean Vuong on Netgalley. I was approved and downloaded just now and fell in love instantly with the description of the sky like oatmeal,

still in my slump era sadly so i might dive right in.. I do have so many on the go i really should finish first - libby = Mammoth, Kathleen Hannas autobiography. Borrowbox - Martyr Netgalley - a non fiction one on cities I requested accidentally., Moderation, Deep Cuts, the new Isabel Allende General Kindle = Jane Goodalls Book on Hope.and a Bank Of England book on Economics

no i just want the access on something bigger than a phone tbh. Laptop is ok for home reading but for portable anything that works will do.

If im honest i don't really like the Kobo it looks like something out of the ark to me with the side buttons etc . another reason why i only want to have a cheap one as it will not be my main device. I have no intention of ditching my Kindle.. this is just for library books

also never had a tablet.. i dont really need it for anything else other than a portable e reader as I have a laptop for anything else

I love my Teclast tablet. I don't really miss the laptop. I do everything I want on the tablet including watching You Tube, reading books and having them read to me, reading magazines etc.
I don't understand why you need something to read on, but then I've never had an e- reader.

Blatantly going to go and order Fundamentally from Amazon now, alongside All the Colours of the Dark because that’s £4.99 and I felt bad just ordering one thing.

I’ve not actually pressed buy on my Harper Collins basket yet but so far I’ve got The Sicilian Inheritance and The Persians in it, which were on my Amazon wish list and are much cheaper via Harper Collins whilst the offer is on. So it’d be rude not to. And then obviously I may as well get more books to hit the free postage total, so Lulu Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books and The Silence Factory are also in there at the moment.

It’s so ridiculous because I have about 20 books in a literal pile on my coffee table from the library and my Christmas presents and 300 odd unread books on my Kindle from 99p deals over the years, but I just can’t help myself.

I ordered/have the Persians.
Also got Softcore, Deep Cuts and a pre-order of Griffin Sisters Greatest Hits.
I’ve been tempted by/heard good things about Lulu.

I don't use Libby, but one of my friends does and she swears by Broward County in Florida. You can just sign up for a digital library card and be a little bit creative with your address. My friend used a shopping mall. But they just send you the digital details almost immediately so no one checks.

Do they have Kindle options? I used Kindle on Overdrive from another US library back in ;ockdown. sadly this fantastic option limits how long oyu have access to e books without verifying yourself in person so can no longer do it. TBF i used my partners address but I dont get to visit that much due to cost so i was semi legit

there was a recent book/author who was definitely problematic- she wrote a love story between a man who fell in love with the girl when she was 3 baring in mind she was a mum and had 2 toddlers!!!

i believe she was arrested maybe? ( had to hide the content as it was truly disturbing)

That might not be updated as the separate Overdrive app was discontinued in 2023 and then fully retired earlier this year. So Americans can now get their books via Libby on their Kindle instead. It's the location (of our library membership etc) rather than the app that's the problem!

oh thanks. I didn't use any apps tbh, I would just browse the NYPLfrom my laptop and then send direct to Kindle. There is a way apparently to get your UK library books sent to your Kindle but its 14 steps and setting up all kinds of accounts and downloading and using apps. I'll keep persisting..I think I'll wait to see what is on offer from my new library and its consortium..very sad though because with my eyesight Kindle is better than staring at phone and regrettably the choices are better in ebooks. for some odd reason than whats on the shelves which baffles me because apparently e books are very expensive and must cost way more than the £8 to £25 quid print fiction is.

What did you think of Lights Out? Ive pre ordered the next one. I enjoyed it but all the mafia stuff seemed so random to me.

I used to love reading, but since having kids (9 years ago) I've found it really hard and have only read a few books. The only ones I've read are by Paige Toon. I like just a modern easy to follow chic lit style. Can anyone recommend any other authors that are the same style?

what was the Natasha Brown one like? I can't get over the ridiculous basic premise. Having lifted /weighed an actual gold bar, there is no way that anyone could repeatedly bludgeon someone to death with a gold bar. You would need someone like Geoff Capes to be able to lift i several times and bring it down with force enough to kill someone. I can't see how the mystery would occur.. you see that character there the size of a house... it was them , LOL... I doubt Brown did enough research and that in itself is offputting.

Quick read, did it in a day. It's odd...I'm not sure I got it

Each chapter is from a different POV and they are all talking about different things, and yeh I think I'm too basic to enjoy it
