I was wondering if there are any good audible alternatives. Does Spotify have the same range? I only listen to about one a year but still want that option.

Spotify has a great range but its 15 hours per month. Im not sure if you can buy more. I havent looked in to it in depth.

I'm sadly pretty tied to Amazon for options. We don't have the room for physical books and they are winding down and closing our library . That didnt stock a selection that contained much that I wanted to read. Our only book shop closed along with the Waterstones which became Sostrene Grene and the charity shops are dwindling their book selections which again doesn't stock much lit fic etc.

I tend to go to the Oxfam bookshop in Ealing Broadway (although their pricing is expensive) and I did like the charity shops in Windsor, but it's been a while since I've been.

I tend to go to the Oxfam bookshop in Ealing Broadway (although their pricing is expensive) and I did like the charity shops in Windsor, but it's been a while since I've been.

TBH i like that one but never in Ealing these days aside from a tube change I dont think I've been since pre Covid and i think a long time before that

Just left 66 book club, anyone UK based may have heard of it. Got myself some bargains and just noticed one of the hardbacks I picked up was signed

I also spent some time looking for the Strike books as embarrassingly had no idea of them either until recently but no such luck for those. Still, added to my mental TBR pile

Oooh how bad were the queues at 66 books? How long were you there? Just realised I could make a slight detour on my way to the rugby tomorrow

The only thing I do like is audible may need to scope out alternate options for audio books.

Does your library use BorrowBox? I don’t know where you’re located, but in Ireland, at least, if you have a library card, you can use BorrowBox. You can borrow up to five ebooks and five audio books at one time. I heard about it during the first lockdown in 2020, and hand on heart, it has been revolutionary.

I also have an Everand subscription. It’s basically like Netflix for audiobooks and e-books - you have unlimited use of what’s available. I pay €10.99 a month and I think you can try a 30-day free trial. It supplements BorrowBox well, but can be quite US-centric.

I feel the same about Audible. I’ve been an intermittent subscriber for years, but might cancel it altogether soon.

Queue was 20ish minutes at 8.30. It’s been dead quiet over the last few opening weekends, they have a Facebook page they update throughout the day. I reckon the summer is the worst and it’s definitely not the time you want to be in a tin roof building after a 3/4hr wait. I was there a couple of hrs but if you’re just skimming you could do it quicker. Got £470 retail price for £125

I am envious of anyone who is just starting out with the Strike books, or who has a few to catch up on. This is my favourite series of books ever. The level of detail, the character development, the plots and twists, she has it all.

I could never get on with Harry Potter. I have read the first 50 pages of the first book several times. But can't face page 51. Strike I devour 200 pages in the blink of an eye.

Yes and I utilise it but the catalogue isnt amazing. Its good but its not great.

I use audible alot annoyingly. Im not sure its worth paying £10 for an extra 10 hours on Spotify. I listen to alot of the plus catalogue and definitely listen to move than 25 hours per month.

I remember watching it when it first came out on whatever streaming platform it was on. And I think I thought it was fine. But pretty sure I felt it lacked the charm of the book. It was fine and not a waste of time to watch, but just didn't quite capture the magic of the book for me.

I’ll definitely call in tomorrow, as I’ll be virtually driving past the door it would be rude not to! I’m slightly concerned about parking because the car park is small and there are double yellows on the surrounding roads. I don’t mind queuing for a bit but I worry that finding parking may add on a load of time.
