Must admit I didn’t think I could justify a 175 mile round trip when I have so many books on my TBR. I thought I’d call in if I was driving to London thinking I never drive to London, usually get the train. Then yesterday discovered that it was on this weekend and I was due to drive to the StoneX stadium this afternoon 
As much as I’m trying not to spend too much I figured I could spend £30 or so. 26 books later
Some of the non fiction I grabbed to use at work.
I got talking to a woman who raved about Ben Aaronovitch. I managed to stop myself from buying the whole series based on a random strangers recommendation

After a ruined Christmas and hellish January, the dawn started to break in February in my life as things got better. So I've tentatively raised my head above the parapet in March to make sure I can come out without being hit by stray "bullets".
So here's my reading for January and February. Apologies for the crap presentation but technology has run me over.
The 4 stars were of the good but I don't feel the need to own them - I did love the Julian Clary book though. A lot of the 5 stars were comfortable reads or listens to to get me to sleep. Plus I had some binge buys (encouraged by Tattlers) to read up. I've read all the Miss Read purchases now and am slowly working my way through the Georgette Heyer's.
I loved. A Civil Contract, Frederica just didn't grab me - sorry!
Special mentions to the Boris book - what a revelation! However, it came at a bad time and had to be read and quickly returned. A kind soul has given me a downloaded copy to re read when I have time to devote myself to it.
Finally the Andrew Lloyd Webber - a book that can be put down and picked up at will like a gentle amble. A man who had everything and threw it away when he became famous. Quelle surprise. His poor wife, but I'll give him Brownie points in that he did save her life, and did come to realise he'd been a bit of a shit.

My Feb reads, 8 in total which is good for me but some time sitting round a sunny pool plus one v short book helped!
Before I Go To Sleep by SJ Watson - the book that had been on my Kindle the longest! Had read it before but long enough ago that I’d forgotten the twist!
Animal Farm by George Orwell - I know it’s a classic but just ok for me. Expected more.
An Italian Girl In Brooklyn by Santa Montefiore - Normally an author I love but was a bit underwhelmed by this one. Not bad but my least fave of hers. I did read it was based on a true story so maybe that meant she was more restricted than normal.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - I’d been putting off reading this after hating Circe (a rare DNF for me) but this couldn’t have been more different! Loved it and really glad I eventually picked it up!
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors - another one I loved, although I could have done without the epilogue. Better than Cleo & Frank for me.
The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey - a great easy holiday read, although more emotional than I expected.
Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty - wasn’t expecting to like this as had seen some bad reviews but I enjoyed it. Found some sections about the main character a bit slow but the stories of the other more minor characters made up for it.
The Kellerby Code by Jonny Sweet - there had to be one this month that was a complete waste of time and this was it! I just didn’t believe in the main character or the situations he found himself in. I can see why it’s been compared to Saltburn and The Talented Mr Ripley, but felt like a very poor wannabe.

Same! My love of reading comes from my mum, and she definitely passed on some of her childhood favourites to me - Anne of Green Gables, Mallory Towers and later Agatha Christie & Georgette Heyer. She was a primary school teacher and always read Roald Dahl books with her classes and with us too. BFG words like chidlers and snozzcumbers are still used in our family!

Nothing puts me off a book more than a buff six pack on the cover.I prefer it to ones with real people, because if I don't find the man on the cover attractive I can't get into the character

i know everyone is staring at me here because i famously hated it and have left it stuck behind my bookcase (where it fell) never to be rescued - i hated it. terrible writing, unbelievable story.
i hated it so much that i joined this thread though so that’s one positive it had!
