What's everyone's opinion on Where The Crawdads Sing? Been trying to get into it for a few days but just not finding myself wanting to pick it up.
I loved it but also know many feel the complete opposite to me!

Ahhh Crawdads! What a disappointment that was. Obviously lots of others disagree but for me it was one of the biggest let downs after all the hype. On the plus side I knew this thread was for me when I found others here who also didn’t like it!

I'm so guilty of wasting my time finishing a book that I'm not enjoying so no doubt I'll end up doing the same with this 🙃 I don't hate it so far, but I'm just not itching to pick it up. Glad it's not just me after all the hype I've heard about it though 😂

I wanted to like it! It just did not capture my attention or interest in any way. Something felt false and off about it. I know many others have enjoyed it almost to a deep personal or spiritual level.

i know everyone is staring at me here because i famously hated it and have left it stuck behind my bookcase (where it fell) never to be rescued - i hated it. terrible writing, unbelievable story.

i hated it so much that i joined this thread though so that’s one positive it had! 🤣

Struggled with the first half, devoured the second half

This was on my Audible Home Screen this morning. Others might want to check! I paid for a year in advance before the prices increased last year, so not sure if it’s for the annual membership or what.

I haven't done this in a while so I hope it still works - download the KU books you want and then put your kindle into airplane mode, and you'll be able to read them after the trial has ended. The kindle needs to stay offline while you get through them thought!
Can confirm this still works but put it into airplane mode before you cancel otherwise they will come off anyway at the cancellation date

putting away my book haul from 66 and thought, I’ll just check the ones I got the first time I visited and found this… haven’t read the book yet to comment on how it is

The writing was beautiful but got purple prose-y often and I found the story pretty ridiculous. Like it made no sense at all to me.

And then if you add the author's real life controversy, eh.

Just checked it. I used 2 credits this morning in the 2 for 1 sale and hadn't activated it. So annoying 😂

Oh my. I didn’t know about the Delia Owen’s controversy 👀

Owens met Mark Owens in a protozoology class at the University of Georgia when they were both graduate students studying biology.[4] They married in 1973, and in 1974 moved to southern Africa to study animals in the Kalahari Desert and Zambia. She wrote about Africa in her memoirs Cry of the Kalahari, The Eye of the Elephant, and Secrets of the Savanna.[5] The couple were expelled from Botswana and are wanted for questioning in Zambia in relation to a murder investigation. They are no longer married. Since returning to the United States, Delia Owens has been involved in bear conservation.

I’ve just finished Impossible by Sarah Lotz. I bought it almost 3 years ago and intended on reading it last year but kept putting it off. I really loved it, it’ll stay with me for a very long time.

I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has read it and what their views were?

I’m in a big of a reading slump so I picked up The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose. I hate saying this but this was honestly the worst book I’ve ever read. Maybe I need to go back to the non fiction books for a while again as a palette cleanser 🤣
