After recent talk on this thread, I have downloaded ebooks for:

War and Peace
Les Mis
Anna Karenina
The Count of Monte Cristo


I also have Middlemarch as a paperback on my shelf.

All 5 are on that BucketList TBR in my head, but I keep pushing them back in favour of shorter books.

But I figured if I get most of them as ebook, firstly it is cheap/free in some cases, and secondly, hopefully the percentage counter will spur me on. I'm planning to have them as back-burner books where I dip in an out a chapter or two at a time whilst reading my other books, and maybe by the end of the year I can have read them? If I fail I've only spent about £3, so I'm not too worried.

A family member keeps asking if I've read Middlemarch yet, so I may start with that.

all absolutely glorious books (imo anyway!) so amazing choices

i will say i’m not sure if they (especially the french ones) will be the easiest to jump in and out of because the language and the frankly ginormous casts will take some getting used to, you may have to make notes as you’re going if you’re taking breaks personally i would start with war and peace as it is, for me, the most immediately readable in writing style. JUST SKIP THE BATTLES AND THE FREEMASONS I AM BEGGING U

I really didn't like it. Like you say, you're waiting for something to happen. Spoiler: nothing really does and the ending pissed me off even more. It was lazy by the author for me.

Hahahaha dammit, I'm about 3/4 through The Bee Sting right now and clicked the spoiler THIS IS WHY I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

No real surprise though. I am, after all, reading it. I've got that sense quite strongly Really enjoying the writing though so I'll continue happily plodding along with it!

... You know, right before hitting Post I realised I'm lying a bit there. I'm enjoying the writing again now, but what in the actual duck was the Imelda section? Why did he write it like that? To signify her lack of education?? I found that really hard going. The content was actually great but duck it was jarring to read.

I saw a post the other day that said a TBR isn't a to do list you have to get to the end of. It's a menu for you to peruse and chose what feeds your soul.

I enjoyed this! But I've never read any of the others.

I nearly bought Seymour when my friend played her in Six but didnt think Id enjoy it enough for the cost.. my interest level wasn't that high

Middlemarch is one of my favourite novels. It took me a while to get into, but once I was there I loved it so much. I need to dip into some more classics, I haven’t read any for ages.

I liked the Count of Monte Cristo. Couldn't get into Middlemarch even on audio though.

Just moved house and organising my books realised I had 4 shelves of TBR. I have banned myself from buying new books until I have broken the back of it as it's getting unmanageable.

Claire Allan Is an author from Northern Ireland she use to write fiction romance but over the last few years has wrote crime thriller and they are worth a read

I just finished Paris Hilton’s memoir. She has acted like a complete a in the past and said & done some questionable things but I had no idea about her ADHD, the time in the troubled teen institutions (including the abuse she endured there( and her fertility problems. It was an interesting listen.

Just finished the face by Dean koontz and really enjoyed it, although I’d like to have seen something more during the ending but o can’t put my finger on it. I also finished the marriage act by John marrs, a solid 4 out of 5 stars, good and I read it in a day but not as good as the family experiment

I'm in the biggest reading rut of my life. I've read 30 books so far this year and only rated 4 of them higher than 3 stars. I don't know if I'm just burnt out or what, but I'm struggling to even find something I fancy on my tbr.

I desperately need a 5 star!

Tolstoy is so savage in Anna Karenina I've put it under a spoiler but it's not really spoilery.

He knew that Vronsky could not be prevented from amusing himself with painting; he knew that he and all dilettanti had a perfect right to paint what they liked, but it was distasteful to him. A man could not be prevented from making himself a big wax doll, and kissing it. But if the man were to come with the doll and sit before a man in love, and begin caressing his doll as the lover caressed the woman he loved, it would be distasteful to the lover.

Also, for anyone who wants to read classics, the Serial Reader app breaks up classics into approximately 15 minutes daily chunks - a nice little resource though I'm often not disciplined enough to keep up with it!

I'm finding it hard tbh. what with worrying about the US , missing my partner and having stress about not having any luck with jobsearch and money I'm kinda off my game on a lot of things and its not like me so early in the new yr. Plus I cant read my physical library books because its been too dark and gloomy which makes it too dark in here to read paper books. I'm stil reading but I'm finding things meh or just ok and not really getting much actual enjoyment no matter what I pick up and I cant seem to get really into anything.

I have several on the go which is not unusual for me but not usually this many

Hqs anyone read The Seven by Robyn Delvey? I thought it was good, its a legal thriller, nicely paced and a good story.
