Talking of DNF’s. Twice I’ve tried to read The Rosie Project and failed to get past Chapter 6 or 7ish. Started it for the 3rd time today as it’s our book club choice this month 🙇‍♀️

@wishiniwasskinny hopefully GR listens to feedback like that 😅 I feel like, given that the whole website is geared towards recording and reviewing your reading, it’s amazing that feature isn’t already there!

I think I’ll try to DNF books this year if I’m really not enjoying them. Normally I feel I *have* to read them but life’s too short to read books you aren’t enjoying. Especially when your TBR is out of control. 😆

I dnf books. If after about 60-80 pages I am not thinking about the story or wanting to just read another chapter when I am reading it I dnf. Last year I dnf 23 books.

I have picked up a John Grisham book, The Rooster Bar. I know there are other Grisham fans here - what is your favourite book of his?

I only DNF'd one book in 2024 and that was All about love by Bell Hooks.

According to Storygraph, I've only DNF'd 13 books in the 4 years I've been using it.

I am getting more prone to DNF now but before I would force my way through regardless. I’ve got such a big TBR now that I don’t want to waste time on books that I don’t enjoy,

Honestly there is nothing wrong with DNFing a book I remember my Mum reading a book and really enjoying it and then she gave it me to read but I hated it and had to DNF it. I then told her why I DNFed it and she was totally fine with it.

Didnt realise there was a new thread. Id love to be a DNF girly but Im just never gonna be her.

However it does make me pickier about what I pick up I guess? Ive had a blistering start to the year. I am currently reading The Survivors by Alex Schulman (recommended by F Backman himself) and also reading Julia Fox' memoir which is absolutely scandalous and eye opening.

Currently reading Unmasked re Andrew Lloyd Webber.
I'm wondering if it's my mood where I can't settle to anything or the book. It doesn't feel unputdownable, rather a book I can pick up and put down after reading a few chapters.
Today I got to a bit which had me bawling and then I had to go out! Dread to think what people were thinking when they looked at me! 🤭 So it will have to be consigned to bedtime reading. 😁

I’ve read many a Grisham, always enjoyed them, but if you put a gun to my head and asked me to name any of them correctly and / or tell them apart, I’d be a goner 😅

I don't DNF, I've had too many books that have picked up partway through or come together at the end. Some I've been bored most of the way through and then the ending is so good I gave it 5 stars 🤣

I feel like I need to read maybe 40 percent to judge and by then I might as well read it all.

Grishams Camino trilogy is really good. Also enjoyed The Testament.

@Libbylulu From the previous thread- I was probably just a chapter or two into The Husbands when I posted. Hated the whole idea of a magical attic initially, but ended up really enjoying the book. I don’t typically finish a book that quickly, but found myself looking forward reading it!

New to the thread but have lurked the past couple. I got the KU deal & wondered if anyone has any recommendations? I’m more into literary fiction/thriller/true crime and don’t tend to read romance/fantasy. I’ve read the housemaid & his + hers.

A thriller on there I remember enjoying is Queen Bee. I’ll need to look through for more. Oh The Apartment was also very good.

The Testament is one of my favourites. Not read the Camino trilogy. But will remember it, I have a book token burning a hole in my pocket. In keeping with my not buying books myself book token purchases don't count.

What Lies Between Us
Stillhouse Lake
Rock Paper Scissors
The Butterfly Garden

are all on KU and all worth a read.
