I am glad we are here to stay, I would genuinely miss the little community we have built in this thread. I very rarely look at other threads, you are my people. I think I have mentioned I spend a lot of my time in a wheel chair/hospital bed. I'm paraplegic, reading is a little holiday in my head and you lot are my fellow holiday makers!

I saw a post the other day that said a TBR isn't a to do list you have to get to the end of. It's a menu for you to peruse and chose what feeds your soul.

De lurking to say that I am glad Tattle is back.
While I don't really comment, I do enjoy following along and have got some great recommendations to add to my pile of books.

There has been a lot said on different parts of the internet in the last couple of days about how nasty Tattle is but the book threads are a brilliant part of the internet and I look forward to all the book chatter.

I’m currently reading the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson and I’ve just started book two and it’s amazing!

Given that I am working my way through the last books on my tbr and there are 60 odd and they are all in my Kindle. I decided that my old Kindle, which has given me nine years of loyal service, needed retirement. Nine years of service, 14 countries visited and about 525 books read, looks like this....

I got the newest Kindle Paperwhite and it is so much faster and responsive than my old one, plus the screen and lighting settings are much better.

I'm not the kind of person who upgrades their Kindle/phone everytime a new model comes out so I expect this one and I to have a long relationship together.

I know I have posted before about having 0 physical books on my tbr. I cut the Kindle down to 152 books from 320ish. Just deleted all the First Reads that I got for the sake of it, same with the impulsive 99p buys. When I get to the end of my Kindle reads I have made a promise to myself to never have more than 8 books on my trb.

I am down to 63 Kindle books now. I mentioned before that my friends had been naming random alphabet letters for me to find my next read.

Someone (and I am so sorry I can't remember your name or find the post) here named the next letter and chose R. Rubbernecker by Belinda Bauer.

What a brilliant choice, this was a great read. I always enjoy Bauer's books but I think this was her best. Completely compelling from the very beginning, one of those books where at bedtime you think 'just one more chapter....' and then the next thing it is 2am. A brilliant storyline with some fab character development and good little storylines running alongside the main plot.

Would someone else like to pick the next letter?

For the same reason I hate when people shit on harry potter. Some people have an issue with JK Rowling as it's their right but the way people say it's intentionally racist etc is crazy to me. Also saying that writing is awful, there are plot holes etc. Like it's a children's book about magic, what do you expect? Use your imagination a bit. Also the book wouldn't be so popular without being good in some way so obviously people like it. It's not supposed to be a literary masterpiece.

the way “people” (using in a general term) completely revised their feelings about harry potter based purely on dislike of jkr is so disingenuous to me. i get feeling disappointed by an author you once loved but it’s so performative how everyone is reversing their original opinions and being like well actually i never liked the books anyway here is a really reaching list as to why

i suppose that one is maybe a wider discussion on separating the product from the creator but i do agree that people apply some level of huge literary criticism to something that isn’t meant to be critiqued on that level. i’m guilty of literary snobbery myself sometimes but if i don’t like something then i simply won’t read it and maybe might write a snarky goodreads review. i hate this thing of dragging people who did like it.

I read Animal Farm yesterday as a quick 100 pager and damn I'm surprised I didn't read it earlier! Very unsettling but apt...

I read Moby Dick last year, so if anything, the farming is a relief from the chapter about a whale's nose.

literally fought for my life reading moby dick. i felt like i’d caught that whale myself by the end of it, absolutely brutal. i appreciated it from a artistic perspective but as a reader it is hard-going.

your opening sentence about tolstoy is so accurate. he does it in war and peace too. “oh you wanted glorious family drama over decades? jokes on you, here’s hundreds of pages about someone joining the freemasons lol”. love it though
