I've just found a nicer, brand new copy of LIC on Amazon for £16 (still not willing to buy it from there).

(Not to derail but they get 80% discount on business rates, no VAT the sale of goods and exempt from corporation taxes and predominantly run by volunteers. So this winds me up even more seeing what they charge)

Spoiler: 25 Days - 15th December

That was a disturbing chapter! I’m so pleased the girls seem unharmed (so far) but poor Bill! I’m desperate to know who this guy is and why he’s torturing these people. Is he just some random psycho or is there a connection somewhere?

This has genuinely been one of my favourite reads of the year and I don’t think it’s because it’s the best book of the year but the experience is brilliant. Reading along with you lovely lot and reporting back every day is just so much fun. Best advent calendar ever!

I popped into the Oxfam bookshop today and was amazed at the prices of books. £3.99 for paperbacks and £4.99 for hardbacks.

There was nothing I was willing to spend that much on until I spotted Lessons in Chemistry hardback with stencilled edges. I've read it but would have loved this copy to keep but it was £20!!

I totally get they're a charity but they get the books for free. I'd have bought some if they were reasonably priced, instead, I left empty handed.

My local charity shop is 20p for paperback and 50p for hardback, but the selection is poor.

Not that I need anymore books for at least 5 years but at that price, they're basically giving them away!

Me and my Mum do a Table Top every so often and we sell books for 30p but we also do 4 for a £1.

My favourite Cancer Research shop have almost all books 4 for £1. And often some quite good stuff in there. Only odd bits and pieces, older stuff, vintage, really big books etc. That they charge £1/2/3 for.

I feel like I'm in such a reading slump at the moment. Like mentally don't want to read. And when I do, just can't get into anything I'm reading. Even easy reads that shouldn't take long, I just can't be bothered with it.

I was like this a couple of weeks ago, work was really busy and I wasn’t feeling 100% and everything I read I was quite ‘who cares..?!’ about / my mind was wandering off.. however, I just started reading ‘the storied life of A.J. Fikry’ as my Z alphabet challenge book and it’s the perfect blend of easy to read + I’m invested in these characters for my current brain capacity/hangover.

Every time I see a new post on this thread I hope it is someone with their spoiler thoughts on 25 Days. I love that none of us have a clue and we all have different theories.

I hope we can find another for next year.

Me too - I get so disappointed when someone mentions a book that isn’t 25 Days. It’s all I want to talk about right now.

I went into the Oxfam bookshop in York ages ago, saw the prices and walked straight back out.

I don't mind paying for charity items, but they were taking the piss on prices. I get the shop would be expensive to rent etc. But when I can buy the book on WOB/MusicMagpie for less and it's barely cheaper than buying it new, they can gtfo.

We have a second hand bookshop in the next town down from me, it's a charity shop for a local hospice . It's absolutely fantastic, beautifully set out like an old fashioned bookshop, little reading areas with comfy chairs and the best bit is the books are £1 each. I love that place

We have a book exchange in one of the towns near me and you can get a book and pay what you want for it.

The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins is just…not good guys. A shame because I love a thriller. Not the one.

Now reading Remarkably Bright Creatures which I have heard lovely things about. I have just over a week off over Christmas so I’m going to eschew my phone in favour of my kindle and I can’t wait!

Agree Oxfam bookshops are a rip off, I’ve not been in one for years. Last time I picked up a few books I was interested in, they weren’t in the best condition yet they still wanted £3.99 each for a paperback! My local charity shops are much better, but I try to avoid them as I have so many books already.

Agree with this completely. I have absolutely loved reading this advent calendar/book so far! I got a nespressso advent calendar and have loved making a coffee every morning then sitting down with the next chapter before getting on with work/life. It’s been such a lovely experience so far. Thank you @nbt for suggesting it and everyone else participating and contributing your thoughts etc

I’ve just started All The Colours of the Dark by Chris Whitaker. I absolutely flew through the first 20%. There is nothing better than a short chapter imo

Goodreads have shared their round up of all the 2025 new releases. Backman is in there. As well as Jojo Moyes. Sounds like there’s a few good family sagas to come too.

Just who is snowmobile guy? He is clearly known to Bill. I can't decide if he is known to the family or not. How would the snowmobile guy know both Bill and the family?

I still don't understand how he got them all there into their 'prisons' when he apparently had only the snowmobile for transport.

Why is so violent towards everyone? Will Chloe manage to get out and find help? What will the repercussions of Chloe's hopeful escape be on Abby?

Honestly each chapter brings me 20 new questions! It might not be the greatest writing but it is such a clever, clever book.
