I’m honestly stumped, I asked my other half if we could watch some tv series’ based off books, I literally can’t think of any - help .

We just finished Dexter again. I’ve not read the books but I got them from Amazon to start eventually.

Also Game of Thrones, Outlander, One Day, Normal People, Shetland. Depends what you’ll both watch.

Is anyone else going to watch it ends with us I know Colleen hoover had very mixed opinions on book tok, but that book got me back into reading and I honestly can’t wait to watch it!

I'm going with my best friend on Tuesday and I'm looking forward to it! I rarely go to the cinema so will be a nice treat.

We recently watched a Gentleman in Moscow which I'd highly recommend. Ewan McGregor is great.

TV series based off books? the one that comes to mind to me that I loved and shame it was only one series but The Dresden Files. Adored the Discovery of Witches books but don;t have Sky so havent seen the series

Just finished The Mars House - Natasha Pulley.

Amazing. Loved that who premise of it. Really good world building, the whole world on Mars felt so well-done, well developed, I could picture the world. Really well done.

And the story was fascinating, resonates with what is actually going on in the world a today, but was also a genuinely brilliant story, political intrigue, love story, great twists. Really engrossing story.

Talking of mystery wrapped books, I received this today. I have no idea who sent it.

And it contained :

Which is a book and author I have never heard of but which sounds right up my street.

It is a realy mystery to as to who would have sent it. I don't even want to throw the brown paper away as it has such lovely stickers on!

A bit of a fortuitous trip to Waterstones yesterday. I picked up Hello Beautiful, Romantic Comedy and Giovanni's Room. At the till, the sales assistant said hang on a minute before you pay. Popped out the back and came back with a free tote bag (Penguin classics written on one side and a quote from JB on the other) as they're marking the 100th year since James Baldwin was born, you get a free tote! What a result! And the tote is a really decent size and made of hard wearing material.

Yes! Priory of the Orange tree could have been a much better book if it was 400 pages! Definitely put me off reading any of her other books.

giovanni’s room is one of my favourite books ever (it’s an absolute heartbreaker though) - what a wonderful waterstones visit! i didn’t realise it was his centenary year. such a beautiful writer. now i want a tote!

that’s such a beautiful gift (you must have a lovely friend somewhere!) - is there hot chocolate in there too? i’d never heard of that book but it sounds up my street too, i love a good heist novel!

I’ve just completed my 2024 reading challenge on Goodreads. 20 books read this year. I set it 1 book higher than the number I read the previous year. What I didn’t consider this year is I’m on maternity leave so obviously have plenty more reading time! Final book of the challenge was The Bee Sting.. 4 stars.

she's always on IG saying Microsoft Word etc can't handle the word count etc.. is it not telling you something ??

This happened to me. It blows my mind that people think she's a good writer because editing is part of writing and she's so terrible at it.

I agree for the most part, but for say the Strike series, as they are detective novels with lots of investigating and evidence etc, the longer format works because the reader gets engrossed in the detail too. But there are many other books where I think gosh this should have concluded 200 pages ago.

same. i LOVE a big book, but it has to be justified. i’m plodding through my romances from the works month and some of these books are 400+ pages when the actual plot covers 200 at most.
