I’m about 20% into Tom Lake and agreeing with the love for it so far! Bumped it up my TBR after seeing it on the NY Times list, and because of the good comments here of course! Really liking the multi generational, mother/daughter dynamics.
i’m adoring it - i’ve nearly finished but i don’t really want it to end. it’s such a gorgeous book, heading straight to five stars for me!

the only other ann patchett i’ve read is the dutch house which i wasn’t blown away by but this makes me want to read more.
---
Finally finished Ministry of Time, not sure I was taking anything by the end of it tbh

Phewf I don’t know whether to pick up something I’m confident will be good - or something I have zero expectations of next. Either way I need a reset!
i had to read a really light romance after ministry of time. it was rough! i don’t know if i didn’t understand the ending or if i was just so over the whole thing that i wasn’t paying attention 🤣 i’m still not over her literally turning around and running home in the middle of that big “fight” scene.

Have to admit I’m jealous you’ve been reading Tom Lake while I’m suffering over here 😂

I’m not about the ending either, I was just turning pages by that point.

Ah the running home…
I think the low point for me was the line ‘I didn’t know whether I wanted to bite a train or duck one’…erm what.
Ergh and the romance, not sure I even it deserves to be called that.

I’ve read a couple of her others and I think The Dutch House was my least favourite, so definitely worth giving something else a go. Commonwealth and Bel Canto are the two that come to mind - Commonwealth is a big family epic type books, Bel Canto is something a bit different!

Looking forward to this! My friend and I love the books and were planning to have a movie night when the film comes out but sadly she passed away. I’ll definitely be watching it and raising a glass to her. ❤
So sorry to hear about your friend! I also have really enjoyed the the first 2 books in the series, and look forward to the second 2.. I think the casting based on what I’ve read is really good. Especially Helen Mirren as Elizabeth!

Tom Lake is also on my TBR pile! I got a signed copy from a bookshop in Whitby and it came with a bookmark too with the beautiful floral design from the cover on it. I also bought This Family yesterday.. as you may be able to tell I enjoy a family saga !

@wishiniwasskinny Thanks ❤ our last texts were chats about the cast and how we were looking forward to seeing the film.

Late to the party but I’ve made a start on I Am Pilgrim. I thought I’d read it but I haven’t so I’m interested to see how I get on with it. It’s a hefty book! I saw the sequel in Tesco but IIRC it had mixed reviews here so I’ll hold off buying.

If you enjoy it, her other book How To Kill Men and Get Away With It is even better in my opinion.

I’m about 80% of the way through How To Kill a Guy in Ten Days by Eve Kellman which follows a similar plot line to How To Kill Men and Get Away With It and I’m loving it. I’ve not read a book in 1-2 days in a while and I’m definitely going to do it with this one. I’m absolutely gripped by it.

I'm reading How to Kill a Guy in Ten Days! Im enjoying it! Can't wait to read How to Kill Men and Get Away With It and The Murder After the Night Before.

Probably a man repellent but I've been loving these kind of stories since My Sister, the Serial Killer. Also really liked How to Kill Your Family.

I'm interested in the Sweet Pea series which is a similar theme.

For those who enjoy the men killing books and if you liked How to Kill Your Family - A Certain Hunger may appeal. Although I haven’t read How to Kill Men.. or How to Kill a Man…

I don’t even remember getting How To Kill A Guy in Ten Ways! It just appeared on my kindle and I’ve no recollection of how it got there …but I’m enjoying it regardless.

Shall check out the other ones you mentioned.

Had an email for 3 months free audible this morning somehow I know have 2 months on one account and 3 months on another. Used my first credit on Clickbait after reading about it on here. I'm halfway through already and it's perfect as an audio book. I'm desperate to find our what happens at the end

I’m never disappointed after a visit to my favourite charity book shop. These were 50p each!

Just finished the Twilight series recently, very surprised to see that the fight scene in the movie, wasn’t in the book at all. I bought a little life to read recently which I’m looking forward too since I know there’s different opinions on it but after the twilight series, I don’t feel much like reading.

I have the last Jedi novel to finish as well but it appears I have twilight brain rot so 🤷
