I've read 60 of the people's choice NYT list! I'd read 20 of the critics one. I'm a sucker for a popular book. I can't say I massively loved many of the top 100 though, a list of solid 4 star books for me.

I'm surprised I've only read 4 on that list. But I have pretty narrow tastes (thriller, authors from minority groups, and a specific kind of fiction which I don't know how to define - it's not that niche or mysterious, just can't describe it).

I've read:
  • Homegoing Yaa Gyasi
  • Americanah Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
  • Never Let Me Go Kazuo Ishiguro
  • Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow Gabrielle Zevin

On my TBR:

  • The Underground Railroad
  • White Teeth
  • Where the Crawdads Sing (watched the film)
  • Klara and the Sun
  • Girl, Woman, Other
  • The Vanishing Half

Also I've watched Hunger Games, Gone Girl but not read the books. Others on the list look interesting too of course, so may be added to my TBR!

I tried to read Lauren Bravo's newest book, Probably Nothing, and whilst I appreciate she's a talented and funny writer, it's just not for me, right now. Onto the next book!

After weeks of reading slump, I'm halfway into Play it as it lays. It's my first Didion and it's actually good, gonna be either a 3 or 4 stars. The beginning was a bit confusing with the different POV and unclear story but in a well done, interesting way. The main character isn't very likeable but her love for her child is touching. I dislike her liberal use of the slur 'fa**ot' though: we know you are a Republican in Hollywood, we know you're not like other women, give it a rest already

My reads from the NYT Reader's List:

-Empire of Pain
-The Goldfinch
-Lincoln in the Bardo
-Killers of the Flower Moon
-White Teeth
-Devil in the White City
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
-Pachinko
-Wolf Hall
-The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay
-Cloud Atlas

There's maybe half a dozen others I might read, but probably only two I'd really like to. Some I haven't even heard of!

My personal Top 100 would look VERY different but I'm probably too lowbrow for the New York Times 😂

When I moved house last year I lost my kindle and have been reading on a tablet ever since. I decided to treat myself to a new Kindle Paperwhite in the Prime day sales alongside a holder and page turner so I can lie in bed like a sloth barely moving. Got my kindle today and it’s been charging for 2 hours and it’s only gained 7% power. I’ve tried restarting it but made no difference. Anyone else had this issue?

You've probably already checked them but could the plug or cable be broken?

I don’t think so but I’ll double check. The plug charged my phone ok earlier and I used the brand new cable but now it seems to be losing power! This isn’t feeling like such a bargain at the moment 😂

@Boogs I have a Paperwhite and mine went a bit funny with charging recently too but it seems to have sorted itself out now. 🤷‍♀️ If you can’t get it sorted I would contact Amazon customer service, they’re usually pretty good! Hope you get it working soon.

I noticed when my kindle was completely dead of battery, it took awhile to re charge. I now remember to charge it when it gets to 10%.
I have had cable troubles in the past too. Some seem to work whilst others don't. I would think it's a cable thing. Once, it gets going, the charge time isn't long at all.

Has anyone got the Strapsicles 😏 oo-err for the Kindle? I've just ordered some to try out!

A bit slow with reading this week but loving Family Experiment so far, so much to think about. Has anyone else read it recently?

What did you think of Amazing Adventures? It’s always been one I’m tempted by but never commit and I’m not sure why.

The update nobody asked for.. but I’m now the proud owner of The Will of the Many 🥳 and I was only 5 minutes late to dinner to achieve it lol

Apparently I’m still in my gay romance era so in an effort to stop reading so many trashy fan fics, does anyone have any recommendations for m/m romances?

I read it recently. Aside from The Marriage Act that I couldn’t really take to, I think he does character building quite well. He can introduce a lot of characters quite quickly but it’s easy to follow along with their stories and background I think.

you may have already read it, but red, white and royal blue is a must (and probably changed the whole genre a bit). i’d recommend anything by alexis hall (especially boyfriend material) and i’ve loved everything i’ve read by kj charles (she mainly does historical romances, they are very fun!). i haven’t read it yet but the charm offensive by alison cochrun is meant to be lovely, and i liked a marvellous light by freya marske a lot too. sure more will come back to me later 🤣

CB! kavalier and clay is legit one of my favourite books of all time - you have to read it! (and if you don’t like it, don’t tell me 🤣😉)

🥳 for will of the many acquisition! really hope you love it 💙
