Hello, I’m new to this thread :) I just treated myself to a new kindle in the Amazon sale as my previous one was about 14 years old and was painfully slow (still amazed it lasted that long though!)
I finished Big Swiss by Jen Beagin last night and I thought it was fantastic. It made me properly laugh but it also had some really dark and disturbing parts too.
Some other books I’ve recently given 5 stars to:
- Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield
- Weyward by Emilia Hart
- I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
- Sunset by Jessie Cave
- Rouge by Mona Awad
I really loved Our Wives Under the Sea; it was so different! I'm intrigued about Armfield's latest release, Private Rites (though not so much that I'm willing to pay hardback prices for it)

welcome! i really liked big swiss too - it was just delightfully weird (and like you say, really dark in places). i’m intrigued to watch the film if/when it gets made, jodie comer has bought the rights!

all this recent weyward talk makes it think i should reread it as it was a solid three stars for me but i was also in a bad mood when i read it 🤣

So I’ve finished my third book of my holiday, Everyone here is lying by Shari Lapena - really mixed on how I feel about it to be honest BUT it felt fast paced and I finished it in a day

Avery only being nine makes things not very believable, making her a bit older would’ve helped. Also the representation of ADHD is really off, just call her a sociopath/psychopath without bringing ADHD or autism into it. Also the open ended ending was annoying

Ooh I just started this this morning and was instantly hooked. It was actually a very close second for our book club choice, if you wanted to come over and see other people’s views, as I believe people were going to read that one too.

I’ll read your spoiler once I’ve finished it 👀

I just read it, overall I was hooked, but I do agree with you about Avery not being very believable. I enjoyed how everyone was falling apart as they all had something they were hiding and they fell like dominoes. I did not like Avery in the end. But I was hooked and ripped through the book.

Oooh I didn’t know it was possibly being made into a film! How exciting, hopefully they’ll do it justice 😄

Just reread twilight, it's obviously not a great book but I really enjoyed the cosy nostalgia feeling 🥰

I finished Talking at Night in Sunday and I've still not recovered 😍

I don’t want to be dramatic.. but I think there’s a conspiracy against me buying Will of the Many 😂

I checked the Waterstones app yesterday and it said my local store had a few in stock.. just looked again as planning to go later and it’s out of stock.. it’s the second time this has happened!

Could you ask them to order a copy in for you? My local store is great about that, and with new titles I normally only have to wait a few days.
