i just finished the rachel incident by caroline o’donoghue (which i really liked) and i am INTRIGUED as to whether it’s a true story or not. i’ve googled so many interviews with her but she’s very cagey does anyone know?

also, it’s definitely one for the girls here who like a bit of sad girl irish lit combined with 00s nostalgia.

I should not be buying books. All my reading this year has been via netgalley. And yet.. to be fair, I had Bellies on my wish list for aaaaaages and the reading cure is about curing an eating disorder by reading so how could I not get that?!

Super late but here are my May reads! Had a couple of really busy weeks last month where I didn’t get a chance to read at all then some quieter times where I managed to fly through a few books.

I really enjoyed listening to This is Going to Hurt so gave that 5 stars. In terms of my kindle reads I gave The Split 3 stars, it started strong for me but then kind of fell apart imo. I gave the rest 4 as really enjoyed them all but none of them quite had the wow factor for a 5

I've already finished the Mhairi McFarlane! I saw some people on goodreads say that it should have been a novella, but I'm glad it was a full book, I really enjoyed it!

Also Simon & Schuster already out with the memes

I had a very thriller/mystery focused month. The only duffer was “The Other Guest” nothing really happened and the mystery element was boring. “Home is where the bodies are” wasn’t anything special either and was predictable but it was still an easy and enjoyable read.

The Queen of Poisons, Big Little Lies and The Woman Who Lied were all at least a 4.5, would recommend all three.

Best of the month has to be The Appeal, in fact I think it’s my book of the year so far, I just loved the unique format and concept- big thanks to whoever it was that recommended it to me on here a few months ago!

Less books than I expected considering I went on holiday this month (work was crazy either side of my week off which cut into my reading time) but some good ones!

Just finished Seventeen. Thought it was brilliant.

Wow. I couldn’t stop listening. It feels wrong to say I enjoyed it.. but I did, it was complelling and I can’t believe she seemingly got away with it? I thought the ending would be Joe going off to university and escaping from Ali, I nearly fell over when he said he had only just left her 17 years on! I wonder what the real Miss P is doing now. I have so many questions so I really hope he writes more!

I’ve just bought Weyward (impulsively) as I saw it was on offer on audible for £2.99. Couldn’t resist.

I am currently reading The End of Men and have just ordered How to Kill Men and Get Away With It... I've told my husband about the first book which is essentially like a Covid plot that wipes out 90% men and doesn't affect women, now I know he's going to be slightly perturbed when he sees the second book arrive tomorrow. I promise I'm not plotting

I really liked the End of Men! The timing of the book is really coincidental too - she started thinking about the plot in 2018, and submitted it to publishers in Jan 2020!

Took my son to the cinema today, we went to Asda afterwards and ended up treating myself to Fourth Wing and A Court of Thorns and Roses because they looked so pretty and it's payday tomorrow I definitely needed more books!

Audio books - Beautiful world where are you, After I do, The Windrush Betrayal (non fiction) and Babes in the woods (non fiction).

Favourite was probably After I do and I found both non fiction ones really interesting

Well.. I don’t know what happened but one day earlier this month I picked up the first one to read the first chapter thinking maybe I’d save it for a holiday read but let’s check I like it before committing to pack an 800 page chunk etc etc and now here we are 1,600 pages later, I finished Keeping 13 yesterday and now eyeing up Saving 6.

I really need to prioritise reading the sequel to Godkiller which I predictably have owned since it was released 🫢
