Not the best month for me but had a lot going on so I’m pleased I got through 4.

Preloved was by far the best, my favourite I’ve read this year without a doubt. Also really enjoyed Never Lie, I know Freida is marmite but it was perfect to get me out of a slump. The Retreat was meh and I already can’t remember much about it. Enjoyed The Prison Healer but didn’t realise it’s the first of three and whilst I enjoyed the story and the ending was great, I can’t say I’ve much desire to read the rest.

I cannot recommend enough adding any 99p deals on the 1st to your wishlist and buying on the last day. Ive wittled 8 to 2.

Its really stopped me impulse buying.

my april reads (a very mixed bag 🤣)

the new life - tom crewe ⭐⭐⭐⭐
adventures of amina al-sirafi - shannon chakraborty ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
this could be everything - eva rice 😴😴
demon’s guide to wooing a witch - sarah hawley ⭐⭐⭐
shrines of gaiety - kate atkinson ⭐⭐⭐⭐
paris daillencourt is about to crumble - alexis hall ⭐⭐⭐
sad girl novel - pip finkemeyer 😟😟
psyche and eros - luna mcnamara ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've been putting off Paris Daillencourt because I don't enjoy reading about characters with high levels of anxiety, does it dominate a lot of the book?

---

(Most of) my April - I managed 12 books. My favourite was Parable of Talents, and my least was probably The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley (I didn't hate it, but found it lacking in parts)

honestly, yes. i would be hesitant to say it’s a romance really, or even a book about baking, it’s essentially a book about a guy trying to deal with his almost crippling social anxiety (and even then i’m not sure if hall really saw that through, i found the ending very frustrating). it’s well written and enjoyable enough, but definitely not one to read if you don’t enjoy being in the minds of characters with really high anxiety levels.

Do you take the ones you don’t buy off your wishlist? It’s crossed my mind if after a month of being on 99p, and I’ve not felt the urge (apart from the 1st of the month) to buy it, because there are many more books I want to read instead, then how likely am I going to get round to reading it anyway and does it deserve taking up space on my wishlist 🤔

I do yes. Cant say Ive ever regreted it.

This is from someone who for the last 2 years or so has probably bought 4 to 10 books every 1st of the month and has read a fraction of them.

I think I get such FOMO I worry I will forget it exists so keep things on my wishlist incase it goes on 99p again in the future.

But then if I didn’t want to buy it at 99p this time round, wanted others instead, then I go on to forget it even exists, I was probably not that into it anyway 😂

I buy 99p books towards the end of the month too. More often than not, I forget about them by then so don't buy anything 🤣

I leave everything on my wishlist as they often come back to 99p and by then I might feel like buying them or I reward myself because I've cleared 1 or 2 off my TBR.

Wait a minute, some people don’t buy 99p reads immediately?

Haha in all seriousness though, that’s a really good idea. I’m going to give it a go too.

April reads.

3 audio books - An improbable life, Educated and Prima Facie.

Really glad to get Best of me off my Kindle as I purchased it in 2012 and only just read it 🤣

I liked them all in different ways but favourites were probably A woman is no man and Weyward. I liked Prima Facie too but it didn't compare to seeing the play.

I used to buy immediately but when I started buying Amazon vouchers to hide the 99p spends from my bank, I knew I had a problem 🤣

When it's the middlle of the night and you can't sleep the only thing to do is buy books right? Monthly deals are up I've bought The Push, We all Want Impossible Things, Fly Away (sequel to Firefly Lane which I've not read yet), A Terrible Kindness, and The Last Thing to Burn. All from my wish list!

My April reads. Don't think I've ever read this many books in a month (I said that last month when I'd read 6 😂)
My highest rated were The Housemaid Series, Verity, Never Lie and Blood Orange.

I've only just started reading thrillers this month...I think I have a new favourite genre 😂

another mixed bag this month. was underwhelmed by a couple (alone with you in the ether and notes on an execution). highlight was definitely prima facie which was my only 5 star read of the month, the other 3 I gave 3.5 or 4 stars. only one kindle book read this month and 5 on audio, I’ll be interested to see my stats at the end of the year as it’s looking more and more like audio will be my top format which I never would’ve expected. I feel like I haven’t enjoyed reading as much this month 😟 nothing is sticking and a few of the books I couldn’t even tell you much past the plot

now to look at the monthly deals and see if there’s anything to respark the joy

I managed 17 books in April. Mainly thanks to a week away where I read 9 books.

My top books this month were:

Butcher and Blackbird by Brynne Weaver 5*
See you in September by Charity Norman 4*
Finlay Donovan is Killing it by Ellie Cosimano 4*
Every Smile you Fake by Dorothy Koomson 4*
One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose 4*

I also read Piglet by Lottie Hazell and was a bit disappointed. Only 3* for that one.
It annoyed me that we never found out what he told her. Although I assume it was cheating or similar.
I was really enjoying it until it ended and I was like huh?

Just quoting last night me to say I’ve already bought two 99p books 👀 but in my defence they were both on my wish list and one was a John Marrs which I’m never going to say no to.

I have been better with the usual monthly deals though because I actually have to seek them out and then decide. I promise 🫣

Another 3 99p books today 🤦🏻‍♀️ right I am putting myself on a buying ban. No books in May also possibly June 🤣

I’m also feeling EmHen fomo 🤣 I haven’t read any of her books 😔
Note to self check your kindle before claiming you have fomo 🤦🏻‍♀️
Apparently I bought Happy Place at one point and just forgot 🤣

I really enjoy reading these monthly receipts. I am not clever enough to make a post like that and I read 19 books so can't be writing out a list.

Standouts were

A Short Walk Through A Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke 4/5

and

A Sweet Sting of Salt by Rose Sutherland 5/5. This was a debut novel and I can't wait for her to write more.
