I finished Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult and I gave it a 3/5. She has a lot of books and I generally like the whole moral conflict stuff she does. Any suggestions of good ones to read from her please?

I have already read My Sisters Keeper, Nineteen Minutes, The Pact, House Rules and The Tenth Circle.

Oh yes, do not kindle it! it needs a proper book to do it justice.
The only thing similar I've come across is the thompson experiment on tiktok, its so weird and creepy

You can’t get it on kindle, paperback only, which makes sense from the bit of it I have seen. I don’t like thinking too hard when I read and it looks like a tough read. Did you read it all, footnotes, all the extra bits, everything? I’m worried that I’ll either get so freaked out it’ll end up in the freezer like in Friends or I won’t have a clue what’s going on and any discussion I’ve found so far seems purposefully obscure. It seems that everyone also has a different method of reading it too.

Do you recommend the Rivers of London series? I have the first book which I got for a few quid somewhere cheap, but I haven't got around to it yet.

Going to be honest, I’ve only read the first one, which I enjoyed. I like the cover and like how they look on the bookshelf so I bought them! I probably need to re-read the first one before continuing.

Spent my weekend reading Evie Alexander's Foxbrooke series, fun and frothy romances (honestly, I'm not especially a fan of the aristocracy but it really gets me in fiction).

Got to try and turn my mind to more serious books before my library loans expire (again)...

I’ve had a book in my head from when I was about ten and I’ve never found it - I think I’ve mentioned it here before in the hopes of finding it. I have zero idea what it was called but it was a children’s book where two children (maybe siblings) slipped through some hedges and found themselves in a wood where one of them got a thorn in their foot/hand/other body part which made them ill. The other child had to go and get help as the child with the thorn got sicker and sicker. There was also some kind of animal companion maybe a lion or a wolf and I think a witch of some sorts. The usual suggestions I get are Narnia and Hansel and Gretel - it’s neither of these. I read it in around 1995ish but it could have been an older story, I really have no idea.

Any chance it was called The Snow Queen?

I really love physical books so I’ve put off buying a kindle, but i am starting to run out of space so might have to get one.

I am looking at the green coloured paper white, anyone else got this one?

Also, any other physical book lovers found the transition difficult, and is not as satisfied without the physical book?

Ooh I haven’t read it but I did pick it up ages ago in a charity shop! I read Devotion by the same author and really enjoyed it!

OK I need a good cosy crime. I’ve read and love both the Thursday murder club and the Marlow murder club series, but I’m really craving a “cosy” and shockingly it seems to be the one genre not on my extensive tbr shelf

Ooh let’s do a reread of The Passengers! I think it was my first John Marrs and still stands as my favourite (bar maybe The Stranger in Her House). It came from a recommendation from this thread back in 2021, it may even have been from you!

Has anyone read The List? I finished it this weekend and it wasn’t what I expected at all. I struggle with books that are “too current” and packed full of social media and current culture references (this even had a name check for Joe and the Juice) but equally it was all relevant to the story. I enjoyed it though and gave it a solid 4 stars

I had this one too, tbh it still did its job, hubby just wanted to upgrade mine to the paper white, I have a paper white 10th Gen, and I', not even sure what the advantages the newer ones have, I love mine, I mix audio, kindle and real books atm.

Has anyone read The Shards? I got it from the library but itl be due back in 2 weeks. Its a beast of a paperback. I cant say I enjoyed American Psycho but Ive heard good things about The Shards.
