I have seen a few posts on insta about people who picked up The Women by Kristin Hannah and couldn't put it down and I can agree.

I read 150 pages in an hour yesterday and finished the other 300 pages this afternoon.

It's a brilliant book. Highly recommend

It sounds a little bit different to what she has done before. I am on a book buying ban - 15 months so far. Seeing my stash go down is so rewarding. But I will be dropping heavy birthday hints.

This was me, I've bought 5 kindle books this year after buying probably 20 times that last year.

I made a spreadsheet of all the books I had between audio, physical and digital. Seeing them in a big list was sobering and made me realise that so many of them Id bought on impulse and I didnt really fancy them anymore. I was buying solely because they were 99p. Also at the start of the month Ive started adding the new offers to my wishlist rather than buying straight away and thinking about it and as you can see theres been so few Ive actually decided to get.

Im still paying £24 a month for my Afterlight box but the books are so pretty and worth it for me.

I’ve started to (try) and be stricter but thinking when will I actually read it.. if it’s not going to be something I prioritise in the next 3 months then I’ve been resisting.

I finished it on Saturday and loved it too! After a bit of a slump loved being so into it.

Money. They make more money on hardbacks and theyre relying on people buying the book as soon as its released or whilst its still new.

I prefer reading a paperback but I prefer how a hardback looks on my shelf.

me too and so many library books are hardback, I guess because they get copies on first release.

Came back yesterday from 2 weeks of work travels where I didn't read even one book (basically working 24/7 or travelling...)

Today is off and I'm PMSing which means I need some corny romance. I picked the 'trashiest' book I could find from the title (The banishment), to the book cover, to the actual writing and historical accuracy. But it's actually good fun and quite entertaining! It reminds me a bit of Gone with the wind (beautiful but snobish, full of herself main character who loves her home more than anything kind of deal and is forced to grow up). It's also only 160 pages long, which, imo, is the perfect length for romance books of that type.

I think the paperback is not far away from being released. Keep the nice hardback for your bookcase

A bookseller at Waterstones in December was telling me it'd be 12 months between first hardback release to first paperback release for Zadie Smith's The Fraud. I wonder if that's similar across the board? (I was ordering a copy as they were out in store and told him I didn't mind what format and he said it would be in hardback for a while yet).

I think the paperback is not far away from being released. Keep the nice hardback for your bookcase

26th March I was looking at The Women and it’s not out on paperback until February 2025!

Just finished The Final Scene by Steph Nelson after seeing it mentioned a few times on TikTok. There were only a couple of ratings on Amazon so as it’s on KU I decided to give a go. For the first third I couldn’t really grasp what was going on and didn’t really get it but from about 30% in I was hooked. Gave it 4 stars, probably a bit too generous though.

I think I read it depends on the popularity, eg. When Fourth Wing was first released in hardback the paperback release was scheduled for November but since it was popular and people were still actively the hardback the paperback release was pushed back. A similar thing seemed to happen with we all want impossible things, I was going to wait for the paperback release then noticed it had been pushed back for a few months so I impatiently bought the hardback (no regrets though, great book!)

I finished the first Virgin River book last night. I love the TV series so wanted to try the books. It was hard at first as I just picture the actors in the show, which I still do now but it was still a good read. A few of the storylines were a bit different between book and tv show. It’s quite a bit spicier too. I’ll definitely read the next book.

I did also have one major ick..

in the book, the characters Lizzie and Ricky are much younger (19ish in the tv show). Ricky is 16 and Lizzie is only 14. ‘Statutory age’ is mentioned, apparently doesn’t apply to Ricky being under 18. However the author then goes on to describe a sex scene in detail which given the girl is meant to be only 14 makes me very uncomfortable. Also some of the adult men comment on her appearance and the way she dresses. I think the topic of teen relationships/underage sex can be covered without needing to write a spicy scene to go with it. I think I’ve read more on this will develop in later books.

I'm reading this at the moment & can't stand how the women are described! But I want to read it before watching the show so

Currently listening to this is going to hurt by dr adam kay. The blurb on the front describes it as “painfully funny” this is accurate. Strangely enjoying it though.

I LOVED that book! I laughed out loud so many times despite the subject matter. I must read his other books.

What's your opinion on Miriam Margolyes telling adult Harry Potter book lovers to grow up?
I have to confess to owning a few since I bought them for my niece and nephews and had to buy my own when I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
Wresting a book off a child is never a good look!
I've never read them since but have enjoyed rewatching the films and have recently enjoyed listening to one book on audio whilst doing a boring task.
I have several books in my bookcase from childhood that I love to bits (literally)!
I personally think you should be allowed to love what you like no matter how obscure.
People are so judgemental these days

i think miriam m spends far too much of her time complaining about other people tbh. anyone who makes “i tell it like it is! i’m so funny and off the cuff!” their branding is bad vibes for me anyway though.

honestly, people should do what makes them happy in life, not just in a reading context. no one’s hurting anyone. love the thing, enjoy the fandom! life’s too short to not be invested in what brings you genuine joy
