I'm claiming that the "it doesn't count as buying books if it's bought from a charity shop" rule still applies if it's bought from a charity shop eBay account because I need these not to count and I did a good thing for Cancer Research. 😆

Love this thread 😍
There’s no book shaming and if someone likes a book and you don’t there’s no arguing or fighting.

Ok so, I think Sally Rooney overrated, Hate how she’s the standard to which all new female writers are compared (especially Irish), found conversation with friends painful and DNF normal people, HOWEVER, I just watched the Normal People tv series over the course of a few days and I may never recover. I’ve long loved Paul Mescal just from seeing him on the interview circuit, he always comes across as such a decent (and charming) lad, and love to see an Irish boy done good, but I had no idea he could actually really act. I could take or leave her, but him…ugh, I’m in love. 😻

I am on a serious no book buying ban for 2024 and was finding it really easy to stick to.

Until Waterstones emailed me about their new clothbound classics. I collect them and have about 23 already. But this copy of Watership Down......can I resist?

What's your opinion on Miriam Margolyes telling adult Harry Potter book lovers to grow up?
I have to confess to owning a few since I bought them for my niece and nephews and had to buy my own when I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
Wresting a book off a child is never a good look! 😫🥴
I've never read them since but have enjoyed rewatching the films and have recently enjoyed listening to one book on audio whilst doing a boring task.
I have several books in my bookcase from childhood that I love to bits (literally)!
I personally think you should be allowed to love what you like no matter how obscure.
People are so judgemental these days 🤷
i think miriam m spends far too much of her time complaining about other people tbh. anyone who makes “i tell it like it is! i’m so funny and off the cuff!” their branding is bad vibes for me anyway though.

honestly, people should do what makes them happy in life, not just in a reading context. no one’s hurting anyone. love the thing, enjoy the fandom! life’s too short to not be invested in what brings you genuine joy 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oops. On 1st January, I promised myself I would buy no more kindle books until I had read at least half of what I already have. One month and 19 new books later, I think.i can say I broke my promise!

I have just discovered that we can download the kindle app on a desktop… guess who now has a tiny square in the corner of their screen at work for a bit of reading when time allows 🥷🏼

Shes an annoying old cow. She seems to make her living being "eccentric" on chat shows.

I read 5 this month all by Lisa Jewell

The House We Grew Up In
The Family Upstairs
The Family Remains
The Night She Disappeared
The Third Wife

Loved them all! Read 3 books in January one of which was a Lisa Jewell (Then She Was Gone) and today I bought another of hers None of This is True to start off my March reads.

Think it’s safe to say I’m hooked!

Top 4 books my charity shop haul for £1, bottom 4 from Amazon/Waterstones.

Not that I needed any because there is still a shelf full to get through already.

My book buying ban is going fantastic guys, now up to 21 Kindle books and this little lot from the charity bookshop today. In just over a month I've bought 33 books. Oh well!

I am SO late to this particular party but..

I read Fourth Wing yesterday - all of it in a long unbroken session that went until 4 this morning. All after insisting for months (!!!) that I wouldn’t like it and it wouldn’t be good at all.

It’s far from high fantasy but I couldn’t stop turning the page until I was finished 🙃

Hi All, what a month! Absolute shocker for reading, only managed 3 books so far (currently halfway through my 4th, hoping to finish by Thursday!) I've just started IVF and my mind cannot settle or get into reading atm but I thought I KNOW WHAT WILL HELP, MY TATTLE GUYS! Not been here for a hot minute either, hope all of your reading has been better lol everything has been a bit mediocre for reading recently, cannot remember my last 5 start read

It is our day of the year! My daughter went to school dressed as Emmeline Pankhurst 👊🏻

Lets share our Waterstones lists and enable one another. I need to go and look at mine later this morning.
