Sorry to hear that. Really seems to be doing the rounds again. It makes me quite anxious tbh that I could feel that rough on a yearly basis 😭
It was running wild at work this month and I'm genuinely surprised it's taken me this long to get it! I find the recovery really awful though. Last time it took ages to get back to feeling normal again. Can do a cold but the sheer exhaustion of Covid is a right killer.

Booker nominated, Irish author, How to Build a Boat, currently on sale on kindle.
I just finished this and thought it was brilliant. Characters are really well drawn and relatable. I especially loved the perspective of the 14 year old boy, he is autistic and it was a real insight into his mind. I did tear up in parts, mainly due to many of the subject matters being quite close to home. 😭
Not a lot happens plot wise, it’s one where you’re just spending time with the characters in their world but I enjoy that.

She was infuriating and not remotely likeable! The lack of character names didn’t help either as I just felt detached from it all. I think it may probably appeal to a certain type of millennial woman who works in arts and culture (basically, luvvies 💀), which probably explains why every newspaper gave it such rave reviews! 🤦🏻‍♀️ But I couldn’t relate to it whatsoever. I’m going to have a look at Magma now and add to my TBR, thanks for the rec!
Funny you should mention luvvies, the only girl who liked it works in the arts 🤣🤣

I was pleased that I was fairly restrained on this month's deals, and now I'm eyeing up other people's purchases 😅

I bought Begin Again by Helly Acton (described as a cross between Sliding Doors and the Good Place), This Vicious Grace (fancied another fantasy after Fourth Wing), and the Bodyguard (can't get enough of fake dating)

Not getting through as many books as I’d like as I’m getting through so many textbooks for my course instead! 😭 Just finished I’m a Fan by Sheena Patel though and I definitely wasn’t a fan! Just seemed to be 200 pages of the narrator’s stream of consciousness with sporadic political rambles inbetween. And such an abrupt ending too! Just thankful it wasn’t a long read so I’ve not wasted too much time on that one!

On to The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt now! 😁
the goldfinch is one of my favourite books of all time! if you don’t like it, never tell me 🤣

Nearly read all of The Paper Palace in 24 hours. I’ve struggled with my reading the last few months, I’ve been really all or nothing. Once I start reading something that doesn’t grab me I’ll get in a slump for a week or 2.

Sunny Saturday here and I’m in the garden with a cuppa and The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond, recommended by Richard and Judy.

Oh for the love of god, do you think I actually bought the book I told everyone else to get?!?
Saw it, thought I must tell my tattlers, then forgot to actually buy. 😭

Yeah I’ve read so much that the ending is infuriating so I’m preparing myself to be disappointed🥲

Ohhhhh enjoy ❤ although I suppose enjoy isn’t the right word! It was beautiful and heart wrenching but I would quite happily never watch it again 😆 Jude❤❤

Same same same same same. So same.

I must be due a re-read soon. Also want to re-read A Little Life this year.

Two of the best books ever.

How do people make time for re-reads when there are so many unread books to read and so little time????!

Right?! I wanted to reread a woman is no man for tattle book club but I thought I have too many unread to justify so I’ll just read the other selection (that I nominated!) but it’s not great and I have that resentment of when you order something new in a restaurant that doesn’t compare to the familiar favourite you usually get. Stick with the known and loved or take a chance on the unknown and risk disappointment?!

I always worry that with a reread, the book won’t be as good as I remembered. Sometimes I prefer it to just stay perfect in my head 😌

Stayed up until stupid o clock this morning looking for the Amazon daily and monthly deals. Loved The Push so bought The Whispers without even reading the blurb. This is the most I've bought for ages and I'm hoping they'll drag me out of the awful August slump I had.

I’m having this dilemma with The End of the Affair. I read it when I was 20 and I loved it. I really want to read it again but I’m worried in case it’s not as good as I remember!
I think how I respond to a book depends so much on what’s going on in my life and how I feel at the time - and a lot has changed over the past 15 years!

the end of the affair is a WONDERFUL book so hopefully it wouldn’t change but you’re so right. so much depends on the mood i’m in when i’m reading it - sometimes i’ve reread books i didn’t like the first time around and liked them way more on the reread because i just wasn’t in the right mood for it the first time.

i adored a little life but i always swore i would never put myself through that again 🤣 sure i’ll end up rereading it after the play though.
