This week I finished Anything is Possible and Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout. Good but now I need a change of pace.

Next up is a historical fiction called The Lost Diaries of Susanna Moodie by Cecily Ross. Set in the 1830s, based on the true story of a “woefully unprepared” Englishwoman moving and making a home in the Canadian wilderness. Can’t wait to tuck into this one.

I’m quite enjoying the format and era of it all as it reminds me of old VH1 documentaries I’d watch with my dad but I’m just desperate for something of any note or worth to happen. I think I’ll read some more before bed tonight and if I’m still not feeling it I’ll start something new tomorrow.

i suppose it depends what you mean by something of note because there isn’t much it’s really fleetwood mac fanfiction so more a depiction of a band slowly destroying itself from the inside than lots of big events. if you’re not into it now then i would honestly say not much changes within it.

I dnf the flatshare, but I’m just starting episode 2 of the series of it on paramount (via Amazon prime) and i absolutely love it, if anyone is interested.

Instagram. Add the layout to your story (without saving), then you can add the book pictures to it and save. Hope that makes sense!

Managed to sort a layout out on Canva as couldn’t fathom it on Instagram. I’ve not use Insta in years and I’ve totally forgotten what to do clearly.

Does anyone else get really annoyed with editing errors? Like surely the editors read the chapters more than once to make sure they haven't missed anything - but they still do. I've seen whole paragraphs repeated, names becoming interchangeable (Mrs Brown became Mrs Green for a whole page before going back to Mrs Brown ), obvious spelling mistakes and now, and this has infuriated me, I'm reading a book that's split into four different POVs. The first is the main character and the second is a secondary character who meets the main character but doesn't yet know her name. She calls her Godkiller and Veiga (interchangeably) but then the character will have dialogue and it will have "(characters name) said" but the pov character doesn't know her name yet! Maybe I'm being picky but it's soooo annoying.

i read a lucy dillon book last year and my god, the amount of errors. the main character’s age changed multiple times, as did the make of her car. she would frequently say something and then contradict it in a flashback. and then she thanked two editors in the end notes! i was like “i’d get your money back tbh”.

OMG. Alperton Angels. What a book. The twists in it - I literally OMG’d out loud(twice)! Refreshing read and would hugely recommend at least listing it tbr.

i will always prefer an actual book but a year ago my bf bought me a kindle and i've been reading so much more it's so handy to carry around, i work as a tour guide and whenever/wherever i have a break i can just pull it out and read a chapter. also i agree with the light, my bf falls asleep but i can still read in bed in the dark

I've just started Daisy Jones and the Six because I'm impatient and need a break from Godkiller at first I hated the writing style of it but I'm getting into it now and it's a nice easy read. Definitely will work better as a series though.

I've just finished Evidence of the affair by TJR, my first ever read of theirs.

I really enjoyed it. So much story captured in such a short book.

I always think this I get so mad over it and feel like they should pay me as I'd do a better job I actually wanted to be an editor when I finished uni but it's another classic "it's not what you know it's who you know" kind of job

Speaking of characters age - I noticed in Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine she goes from 29, to 31 and then to 30 - I was like, how?!

I’ve had a 40% today as well! Off the second in the My Name Is Lucy Barton series which is useful as I’ve read the first and already own the third. Those pesky Amazon bots know what they’re doing!

I have never ever had any luck with them!!!

currently flying through the marriage portrait by maggie o’farrell which might be on course to be my first five star read in a while. her writing is

back to confirm five star read, amazing

i then read the marriage game by sera desai yesterday which was very charming but also reminded me of why i think romance is the hardest genre to get right. if you can’t get the audience to buy into your central pairing then the whole book is lost, and i HATED the male lead of this one so much.

I don't think I explained it very well in my excitement to share

But it's the normal cafe where you can get get food, soft drinks etc but they also do cocktails and happy hour (3 hours of it!) 4 nights a week.

I like to go out and I like cocktails but I don't like noisy, over crowded bars anymore so this is perfect - flicking through books, with an espresso martini, and home at a reasonable hour.

what kind of a dream is this?!?! four nights a week?!! tattlers, meet me there! sounds amazing

I've given up on Maybe In Another Life by TJR. I can't take one more mention of a cinnamon bun.

I'm now reading The Walking People by Mary Beth Keane, I'm about 100 pages in. It hadn't gripped me as much as Ask Again, Yes (was a fave read last year) but I'm still enjoying it.

A few quick reviews of recent books read!

The Locked Room - Elly Griffiths
I don't feel like you can go wrong with Elly, I normally despise police procedurals/crime but hers have enough of a 'gimmick' and mystery to make them interesting. This one is set during Covid and I did feel a bit hit over the head with lockdown details. Like yes I get it, I was there!

Winter - Ali Smith
I enjoyed this, even though I really didn't like Autumn. I'm glad as I bought all 4 in a 99p sale without having read any...
The characters in this are great, unlikeable yes, but I enjoy how she weaves various elements of classic literature and Shakespeare together with current events. Glad to feel like I've 'got it' now and will continue with Spring in...spring.

His Bloody Project - Graeme McRae Burnet
LOVED this. It is a fictional historical crime case told through a series of documents. Loved the format, which has a lot more narrative than you'd imagine, although the same events are recounted in a few different ways so some might find it repetitive. I came away not knowing what to believe, it really got me thinking about crime and justice and psychology and is ultimately quite philosophical.

I'm now on Project Hail Mary. I loved The Martian (film) but my issue with this so far is that it's basically exactly like The Martian. I have a feeling I know where it's going, hoping for some twists and turns or at least something as feel-good as The Martian ending.
