Ah no! I was lucky in that I read it a while ago when there was zero hype and I knew nothing of it. I had zero expectations. It’s always such a different experience when approaching something that’s gotten rave reviews. You may have the same opinion either way of course, but there’s still some unavoidable cognitive bias.

I was told I would love Piranesi and I honestly could not have hated it more. It may have been beautifully written but it was just all such nonsense. I did not give a rit. Now, I am pretty sure I’d have been similarly unimpressed if I’d just stumbled upon it, but I’ll never know for sure! And I definitely wouldn’t have been so angry about it

That's so true - I think when a book is hyped up my expectations are so much higher than if I know nothing before I start.

I also hated Piranesi, it was so depressing and boring.

Piranesi was my lowest rated book of this year on Goodreads. I didn't hate the book, but the hype made it disappointing. I preferred the beginning when there was a sense of mystery regarding the plot - but as soon as I saw the direction it was taking I lost interest.

I also disliked Convenience Store Woman, though I know lots of people on the thread enjoyed it.

Im not massively keen on books which try too hard to be quirky or 'out there' often at the expense of any decent plot. Or bizarrely unique. Books where I have no clue what's going on do not appeal to me.

Was this discussed on here? Feel like it had a bad review but the premise sounds so good and nail biting to me. Its on KU so no cost to try it I guess.

I really enjoyed The Nothing Man.

Was my forst CRH book.

It's a little different to other thrillers in the way it is written. I gave it 5/5

I started listening to this but couldn’t get on with the narrator but it does sound so interesting so I’ll be giving the book a go at some point too. I think I managed to get it for 99p at one point.

Hmm, now I’m not sure whether to start this instead of The Stranding?!

I finished Nanny Needed the other day, 3.5/5 for me, I didn’t see the twist coming which was enjoyable but I felt a lot of the book became same-y up until that twist. I spent quite a bit of time just wanting something different to happen.

I’m now about to finish The Accomplice by Steve Canavagh (the latest Eddie Flynn book), I’ve really enjoyed it - its quite dark but the story is interesting. Again I didn’t see the twist coming. Maybe I’m just not switched on when reading thrillers I’m not sure if it actually is, but I feel like it’s shorter than the previous books in this series.

Not sure what to go for next…

It depends what you’re in the mood for - a thriller or a beautiful story of family and survival.

I returned an audible book the other day that I used a credit on and then became a 1.99 daily deal.

I had no issues returning and rebuying
