I know she has big feet which can't be easy but I hate how she ruins every outfit with crap shoes.

Also her woker-than-thou attitude sucks: fatphobia is shit and it's very real but not everyone who wants to lose weight is directly commenting on the moral fibre of other fat people: it could be to start IVF/ to avoid an illness or fix an injury/ just due to a change in circumstance or comfort.

The fact that she feels it is a personal affront every time weight loss is even mentioned is just so... fragile.

Well, she’s from a very middle-class background and was privately educated in the very expensive SE town of Dulwich (I can’t recall if she went to Alleyn’s or JAGs, but either is at least £20k per year), so her parents are clearly not badly off. I think at least one of her parents works in media/film or similar creative industry.

She has also lived abroad (Canada I think?) and was always able to travel extensively, even before she went to uni, so much have had the means...

She and her husband have also recently bought a place in a relatively expensive hipster part of the UK (a town in SE London which I am v familiar with), so she’s clearly landed on her feet!

That said, her husband looks quite a bit older than her (and so I’d assume he either had a place of his own or a decent job) so they’ve probably been able to pool their resources to buy.

He's just a steward at the Barbican (and presumably fancies himself as an artist) so I doubt he contributes much, money-wise. They seem very happy but I just wish he'd shave his head, he wouldn't even be bad looking if he did. As it is, he just looks contrived and ridiculous.

And yeah, it's always been blatantly obvious that BR is loaded, even up to how she talks about her mum's posh cooking. That's part of what annoys me about her relentless political posturing: it's easy to be the leftest of all lefts when you're minted (I am super liberal btw, I just find rich people who tell poorer people how they should be socialist slightly odd).

Well all I can is fair f**ks to her, I detest spinning and she's really obviously enjoying it. And she looks great. I will say tho she has lost her self proclaimed USP and it will be interesting to see how her career path goes now

The thing is *she* was the oftentimes somewhat unhinged gatekeeper to the UK Twitter fat positive (or body neutrality? Genuinely sorry if wrong not remotely intended in a bigoted way!) movement so she’s gotta turf herself out the club cos none of her fans/pals will.

I think fair play to her tbh. Nothing wrong with being bigger or smaller, but you can’t deny a lot of her peers especially the influencers who’ve got no reason to ever leave the house or tbh even bed have gained significant weight the last few years and are now complaining of ill health or bad MH or just look grey. And I say that as someone who truly believes you can be fit and healthy and bigger, but there’s clearly a line which this set have always vehemently denied. But yet here we are and she’s the only one of that set thriving/glowing and not looking like they’ve been dug up at the start of an episode of CSI Las Vegas.

Just found this thread from the FFFB one and it's been a wild ride.

I've followed our ol' pal Bert for a looooooong time, we used to even be Livejournal friends I think (along with Charlotte 'Monitoress' who I agree is absolutely lovely and stunningly elegant), so I'm glad it's not just me who finds the transition from queer polyam fashion proudly hairy 20something about town to married old-before-their-time author who makes appalling jewelry quite bizarre.

And that's even before you get me into the rich parents funded everything and enabled her to indulge her capricious whims.

Does anyone else remember in Bert's DOMO Dennis days she was also dating a very cute, very young babygay called Jasmine? Idk why but I still now wonder about the weird dynamic there and wtf Jasmine got out of it. (Pretty clear what 40-odd Dennis got out of it)

Another weird one, but another person from that era and who was friends with Bethany, Callie, George etc was Melly - used to be Mellymeep on twitter but got her account deleted? Anyone know what became of her? She was a plus sizer with decent following but not an influencer per se, always thought she was sound and would love to know her current @

Sorry but her biggest olive ever last night is more plus size than her. (But maybe equally green in that outfit!)

I actually worry that people who follow her, buy her books, listen to her and relate to her being fat but going running, having a husband, great wardrobe, cool social life, all the stuff women are told you cannot have if you are fat are not only feeling gaslit, but those who have eating disorders, mental health issues around body image and felt a solidarity in her unapologetic self may be really spiralling.

She didn’t just lose weight and contextualise it. She lost so much weight so fast a few people here wondered if she was ok eating disorder wise but then now its so much so fast, either she does the Insta bite of all that food ordered for shots or she’s using some kind of help.Whether it’s Ozempic or getting diagnosed with ADHD and the impact of meds, she cannot fat is all the amazing stuff she did and then make no reference to so much weight loss except constantly posting numbers about her classes, step count etc.

Stats were one of the good changes bopo and fat acceptance brought in. Don’t comparable data when you don’t show all the workings out and when you don’t know know what way people feel. And don’t ask them to buy another bloody book about fat but fit gal and yer pal takes on the world. The audacity.

I had an eating disorder and it’s starting to be uncomfortable for me and I never looked up to her in that way. It’s like a friend letting you pick up the bill when they leave their job only to find they actually got a big pay off…

I went to UCL and I came across a few people like Bethany. They act as if they barely did anything at uni but will come out with good grades and summer internships. She is obviously pretending to be all laissez faire, it pisses me off.

I don't see why it's so hard to believe that Bethany is doing things like couch to 5k and spin classes. Cto5k is designed for people who don't run or exercise that much. She's hardly claiming extraordinary achievements (not to diminish the importance of c25k, i think it's a great programme)
