Stumbled here from the Jack Monroe multiverse, hello Fraus — I love the content of the WPAYO podcast, have had several top recommendations from it, but I cannot bear the delivery. I love Alice, but Bethany’s awful speech patterns are totally distracting. I know I’m “old” (‘yeah, ok boomer’ muttered my 13 year old at me last week when I asked her to do something) so I may be missing something, but all the LIKES, the clipped tones, the sighing, the bangers, the upwards inflection — it makes her sound really unintelligent when she’s clearly not.

I would be delighted if my 7 year old had made me those earrings, from a parental pride point of view, but I am totally embarrassed for her that she values them at £14 — at her age, with her exposure to properly arty people. Cringe

She claims that it made her feel ‘~empowered’ to go to other instructors? No, was it not just because you wanted to milk all the free classes you could so went door to door to every yoga place that would let you ~stomp in?

tbh also WHAT is with her and her online pals saying things like ‘meeting with a nü publicist’ and ~empowering and generally capitalising things that don’t need to be capitalised.

it seems like she knows she’s bragging or coming across pretentious or any equally undesirable trait, but thinks she can get away with it by drawing attention to and making like of that herself.

She says: I just bought some really expensive eggs from my local independent grocery shop.

Most people’s reaction: Bit of a snob with a very easy boring life

There's nothing wrong with sweating when you exercise but why does she always choose grey marl clothes to go running in? It highlights the sweat so much.

I honestly think it's because she wants everyone to know how hard she's pushing herself. Proving that she is the good kind of fat person and not the bad kind of fat person. I know she speaks out against this rhetoric but I definitely think it's some internalised fatphobia at play in proving how much she exercises...

The vast majority of people who follow her, who read her books, who bought her shitty earrings, are there because she marketed herself as a plus size influencer. In ordinary circumstances I'd say that nobody owes anyone an explanation for the reasons they make changes to their body but in this case I think she does.

To be fair, she is actually pretty on top of her life. She is just being a cool girl. It is annoying but it isn't real. If she was really a grifter like Callie she wouldn't have two books published. She is one of the few influencers who actually has a career.

If you can consider being in the right place, right time, having a rich family/immense privilege and being very jammy a career, then yes.

She did a really good job back in the day at concealing how much of a generational wealth girly she was? When she was constantly upset/complaining about her shit medical (??) copy writing job and shit boyfriends and shit landlords/renters rights she seemed just like any of us early 20s in the early 2010s girlies trying to make things work, but that’s been abandoned and now we’ve got to readjust for the fact she is just a rich girl that doesn’t need to work? And probably will have absolutely nothing interesting to say to us again.
