Bethany Rutter #2 Fatfishing

Can I ask if I missed anything about her breaking up with her husband? Noticed she hasn't mentioned him at all recently and used to quite regularly

ETA: She's deleted the blog post about her wedding from her site (where she still hosts lots of old/irrelevant blogs)
She mentioned him in the first sentence of her latest grid post, with a photo.

Latest pictures of the beanie hat scream "look at my skinny jawline" to me. Very odd angles.

Her post about films/sex scenes is quite jarring isn’t it? I know she made being a large poly babe (tm) her entire personality for a while there but she has always seemed curiously unsexy to me.

The idea of her and her husband with the badges made from his own hair or whatever the duck it was actually having sex is a) not something I want to spend anytime thinking about at all and b) completely unfathomable. Can imagine them being more likely to fly to the moon or finally become sentient and realise how pretentious and annoying they are (and let’s face it they’re not about to do that are they?) before actually getting the ride.

And now I’ve icked myself out forever.

I don’t understand announcing your own pseudonym especially when it’s in the same genre she usually writes for? Doesn’t make sense to me. Surely she has more recognition as Bethany Rutter?

Willow Grainger .... Wonderwick ... Is she going for like a wizard vibe? Willow from Buffy, Hermione? Sounds like absolute dross regardless but reheating terfy Joanne's nachos? Really Bert?

(For those not on stan twitter, reheating nachos mean using someone else's ideas)

Maybe they’re trying to appeal to a new target demographic so are picking a more ‘romance y’ author identity?

Neither of her adult novels for Harper Collins: ie the biggest publisher in the world for her genre, age and most authors sold well. Going off where the second one ranked on Amazon in queer romance categories in pre orders and first month, she sold so badly that she didn’t cover her advance. And often to cut their losses they sell you on to earn it back. But your name is mud for sales and probably attitude. Definitely writing.

Her name is currently toxic in adult fic and pushing it heavily for YA has meant limiting her romance potential. So she lined up for the Cheltenham Gold Cup as Chunky Lady Writer, bit the trainer, didn’t cross the line and is now off to the kiddie riding school as Tiddles.

And still probably got a reprieve not to be the glue factory because of who she knows (and who daddy knows.) But she wasn’t exactly bigging this up because she knows it is not a good deal. Choosing pen names for different genres upfront is and can be a career maker. The only salvation is she got a first name. If you get published as TJ Grainger that’s either you do super well as a Kindle indie or dungeoned by the trad industry.

She has burned through opportunities so many people would sell their soul for with less care than she buys yet another ‘is she a bit hipster or off to the garden centre for lunch’ ruffly blouse.

Her books are terrible. I take the piss out of her but one thing I will say about her is that I have pretty much always enjoyed every book recommendation she’s ever made so I think she has a pretty good taste in books. Then I read one of her own and my godddddd 💀. It was so bad. Just absolutely contrived and horrible. Like reading an entire novel of her twitter feed in 2015 or something.

Remember she deleted all her Twitter and switched name from her 2015 style so it looked seamless? Now you see why. It literally is her books. But she sells less copies than she had Twitter followers in those days.
