I’m quite relieved to find a thread for BR on here, I thought I was a horrible person for not liking her but it looks like I was justified. Just read through this and the last thread and I had no idea of half the stuff she’s been up to!

I started following her years ago when she was all about fat acceptance and polyamory and did her DOMO events etc…I was recovering from an ED and I really looked up to her at the time, was terrified of being fat so seeing her and her mates having a great time doing whatever they wanted was inspiring to me. After a while though, it started making me feel worse about myself because her life just kept getting better and better, she excelled at every new business venture, book deals fell into her lap, lovely posh London flat, always seemed to be eating out and buying fancy expensive things so (I naively assumed) she must work really hard or have multiple jobs, and yet she managed to find time for all these exercise classes, socialising, crocheting, making (ugly) earrings, stomping around picturesque places eating and drinking at posh little restaurants etc etc… I started to think “what’s wrong with me that I can’t find the time/energy to go to the gym every day and go on quirky little adventures like she does, I must be really lazy”. I genuinely didn’t realise that she doesn’t actually need to work a 9-5 like the rest of us so her entire life is just doing whatever she wants 24/7. No wonder she’s always having a great time! 😂

I bought her book when it was 99p on kindle and it was very unremarkable. Just seemed like a retelling of her own life as she portrays it on social media. The main character just flitting around London being adored by everyone she meets, living in a cute little flat rent free, eventually falling in love with a bearded man and settling down.

I unfollowed her about a year ago because I got sick of her humble bragging about everything. I found it annoying the way she put on this ‘voice’ to try and make her gloating sound tongue-in-cheek like putting French accents over random letters and capitalising words. It didn’t work, just made her sound like an arrogant twat.

Anyway her sudden weight loss and pivot to being a fitness influencer is something I did not see coming. I’m not surprise people think she’s a hypocrite after her behavior towards others losing weight just a few years ago. I know people change and it’s normal to relax your stance on things as you get older and settle down but it seems really odd not to address it at all and pretend to still be a size 20.

This I find so interesting cos all of them look like saps that’d spend years chasing after limp lettuce leaf boyfriends from uni and crying to their parents that their council tax has increased 3.5%?
Has anyone noticed that these terminally online, lefty, rich girls all seem to end up married to guys who look like Louis CK's schlubby older brother?

It's hideous that someone with so much money and privilege is given a £1200 course for free to change their career on a fucking whim.
Also WHEN IS SHE GOING TO ACKNOWLEDGE SHE ISN'T FAT ANYMORE.

She obviously enjoys the mental benefits of exercise and endlessly posting about it, so why not post a quick update acknowledging that her weight has changed but her attitude to body positivity hasn't (if that's even the case)? For years she posted snarky comments about people losing weight and now she's silent when it's her. Notice how many of her old tweets have disappeared too. Feels really weird to build your whole "career" around body image and body positivity and then not acknowledge her own body.
She was always very open about unfollowing people who lost weight.

She needs to acknowledge it. Her weight loss is a result of her privilege of basically having all day to go to spenny exercise classes.

Her husband will always be the bloke who tried to sell badges made of his hair. I can never forget that 😂

She’s like a regency era socialite whose biggest dilemma is whether to go for a stroll in the park or attend to her needlework while the townspeople weigh up whether to spend their wages on coal or food.

Just what social media needs, another underemployed person living in a house their parents paid for moaning about money to appear relatable

Embarrassing. Why even make it a thing? I mean… duh? No you don’t have to get married? I thought that was obvious.

But she’s like tnat with every aspect of her life. Oh I felt like getting married. I felt like going on a little 5K run.
Such a Tory way of living too, expressing mild mannered~bemusement of extremely normal things that most people do without even thinking about it, like watching Rishi Sunak trying to pay for a coffee all by himself or a member of the royal family use a ticket machine on the underground. Just fuck off you patronising arsehole.

Right lads, I read BDE to see if it is satirical or shaming on greedy bisexuals. It is definitely NOT satirical. That requires better writing. It’s not intended to shame but mixing up clinical narcissism and being bisexual in an incredibly shallow, even more self absorbed unpleasant female lead than the average trend for ‘Fleabag flawed but actually just a dreadful person with no real empathy’ it feeds into pretty much all the stereotypes.

But mainly it has barely any plot (the TV show is such a stretch) and it recycles like a middle aged mum with Christmas wrapping paper. She brings back Serena and Nicole from the previous book to fill the fat babe bandwagon. Which unfortunately highlighted that Welcome To Your Life is a better book and it wasn’t even a decent beach read.

That said reading BDE to see the equivalent ‘ChatGPT tell me what a flat share non salaried income stream relatable millennial is’ was hilarious. It’s like someone asking Alexa as they go round Tesco but usually visit Fortnums. Clearly all her research was from IG Reels.

I read fast so I read in one sitting on Kindle last night in about 3 hours. There are as yet no highlighted passages and one 3.5 star review copy on Amazon. If I hadn’t seen the two editors mentioned I would have assumed this was the first draft, written on the bus before class. It was a slog to finish the highly muddled dialled in end as at least the bouts of self obsession and treating people as disposable broke the rest up.

But overall I sort of forgot the greedy bi bit because it’s so bad and I wanted it to be over. I think in the end bisexuals will be unharmed by the making of this book because not sure even her biggest stans will read it. I was more insulted as a professional writer than a bisexual person by it. It’s nowhere near as good as Lily Lindon’s book and it is as I said super biphobic. But had a plot. This is just words on tour.

I really wanted to say something nice or pick out a funny bit. I failed. But I’d go back and give WTYL a higher review reading it. The first YA too. All way better than this.

Honestly if you had told me she was 44, married to Steve, 3 kids and was evangelical about muller lights, I would not give it a second thought.
