I'm looking forward to seeing her video about getting an apartment. Similar to what I've said in a previous comment but I'm intrigued to see if she explores different suburbs before settling in what looks like the CBD (think this could be great content if she did show this, and informative for fellow/future backpackers).

The apartment hunting experience was quite stressful for me when I did my year there. I think this is why a lot of backpackers rent out a room in a place that already has a lease, not knocking them for doing so, but like Molly and Tom my friend and I wanted a place of our own. All viewings were open and very much a free for all where like 20-40 people would show up and when it came to applying it was basically a rat race. Often times seemed luck of the draw rather than application based, and I think we scored lucky with our apartment because not many people had applied for it.

We weren't prepared at all, and looking back I would have loved to watch content like this in the lead up to my travels. It was a fun experience but as I said, a stressful one. I feel by the quick turnaround Molly has found an apartment quite quickly, so I wonder if it is an airbnb, or if she's just been lucky to get one fast.

Not saying everyone's experience was like mine though. Maybe some people do just get them fast. In a nutshell I'm just looking to see how relatable Molly's content is as this could maybe be a turning point for her (so far I haven't found it relatable or insightful at all) . Willing to give her a chance and genuinely wish her the best, but I think if it turns out to be a short-term airbnb rental, it won't come across as relatable travelling imo more a glorified holiday.

Her hair looks so much better, I hope she learns how to style it and doesn’t just chuck the headband on or over curl her two front pieces

I think your experience is pretty close to how it still is! I’m currently in almost exactly the same position as Molly. Arrived in Melbourne on a working holiday 2 weeks ago and currently looking for a flat and job. I can’t wait for the video to see if she went through the ‘normal’ process because the rental market is absolutely crazy at the moment.

As internationals, looking for a 3-6 month lease, with no proven income yet (even though we’ve offered to pay the whole rent up front) we are being ghosted constantly and at the bottom of the list for applications. Getting a room in a shared house or a long term hostel is looking like the way forwards for us.

Sorry, but I find it SO cringeworthy when she says “man”. It doesn’t suit her. 😂

But her hair looks lovely.

Haven’t watched the video but loling we called it out that it’s an Air BnB. How embarrassing posting about your first place together when you’re in an Air BnB on an extended holiday 😂

thats disappointing and proves that have no real intention to stay for long.
I would’ve been interested to see how the rental market works out there and what the process is for getting a tenancy etc

Disappointed for her "apartment hunting" vlog tbh. I really wanted to give her a chance but throughout the video she complains how hard of a process it was for them to find somewhere, but seems to have an easy process of it (certainly compared to me and other backpackers I knew when I lived in Melbourne). Basically sounds like she spent 2 weeks (she later says 3 weeks but 2 weeks earlier on in the video- which one is it Molly?) doing the "conventional route" of getting a tenancy before giving up and getting an Airbnb.

It just doesn't give relatable/insightful content vibes at all. You didn't see her do much "apartment hunting" it was more her just complaining about her rejection. The one apartment she did show she gave no info about it, no idea which suburb she was even looking at. Like I said it would have been nice to see her exploring suburbs, talking about pros and cons of different areas because by the look of her applications she did apply to apartments in various places. But there again, I don't think she was actually viewing most of them, just sending messages predominantly in the hope someone accepted them. I saw when she was scrolling through the messages she had sent that she had accepted a place without seeing it but then got declined last minute because they wanted someone who could commit to a longer lease. And the place she lives in she also didn't view, so makes me wonder how many she did view.

Not really surprised places were rejecting her because she only wanted to do 3-4 months. I thought her plan was always to settle somewhere for the rest of the year but she's now saying it's a short stop off before going off travelling again. Not judging her for this as many people do their WHV in this way but it's the way she positions things. "moving here forever" turns into "just for the year", "settling down somewhere" turns into "3 months in an airbnb".

Another red flag for me was the fact she spoke at great length about the joint decision they'd made to settle in Melbourne, only to then say "I love Melbourne. I think Tom likes Melbourne." surely you would discuss this before settling here and make sure you're both happy. What if Tom wanted to "settle" in Sydney? Looks like Molly was the decider here and didn't care to consult Tom really.

The job portion of the vlog was more helpful, I'll give her that, and I do think it's good that she's getting a job out there (I definitely think it's a case of money drying up though- she seems too defensive explaining her reasonings and clearly feels the need to justify why she's working). Laughable to see them handing CV's out for 2 hours including breakfast (so realistically probably 1 hour) and call it a day though. Also the way she had to psych herself up so much for the trial shift speaks volumes.

I think the flat situation is a testament to her immaturity. You wouldn't be able to get most places in England for 3-4 months either, it's not worth renting to you for that short a period. You would've thought after getting so many responses saying they were only leasing for 6 months, they would've decided to change their plans and stay for 6 months.

Would maybe renting for 6 months but leaving after 4 months actually be cheaper than staying in an air bnb for 4months? (Probably not but just wondering)

yes probably! a 1 bed flat in a suburb near the CBD is about $2500-3000 a month. Airbnbs are around $5000. I guess you don’t have to worry about Utility bills with an Airbnb but that’s not a lot.

Unless they both get full time hours they’re not going to be in profit working cafe jobs on $28 an hour.

What happened to Tom freelancing as a graphic designer? Has he actually has any proper work that isn't Molly pity paying him?

I doubt he has any work, but he could be doing that on the side of the cafe job like Molly is doing social media on the side. She just made a story advertising Tom's graphic design page.

The whole video just shows her immaturity. Calling the place her new apartment which is just an air BnB. Of course they were gonna struggle to find a flat anywhere for just 4 months. She wouldn't even be able to do that in England so I don't know what she was expecting.

I think Tom seems more mature and always seemed up for working while they were there, but the way Molly talks about getting a part time job like it's so beneath her. Will we take bets on how long she lasts? 🤣

As someone whos worked in a cafe for around 4 years now sometimes full time sometimes part time this vlog really pissed me off. She makes out like its the easiest thing in the world and oh i did it when i was 16 so obviously i can do it now. I wouldnt wanna hire anyone who swans in ‘oh im just here for 3 months i do youtube as a job’

Yeah does she realise these people have actual businesses to run and won’t just hire someone who wants the job to socialise

I thought that, why didn't they pick a 6 month rent and then just leave when ready. They could end up in a position where they don't want to leave after the 4 months. Which I doubt giving how much she wants to travel but you never know.

I would never call an Airbnb “my new apartment” no matter how long I was staying there. 💀

It’s so tedious how much she goes on about how “hard” something was when she didn’t get it handed to her on a plate.

I can't wait to see how many times Molly goes to the gym in her building 😂 explaining that having a gym in the building is a plus rather than paying got an individual membership. She'll literally never use it ever!
