I heard Jack Saunders on Radio 1 last night say he thought Joel was ‘smashing it’ on afternoons on Radio 2. Even their own DJs don’t listen to Going Home with whoever we can get today

Piano Room - I sometimes feel that Vernon isn’t really listening to the answers the artists give. Can feel like he’s going through the motions, rattling through his questions

The idea of Jack Saunders listening to R2 is absolutely hilarious to me for some reason. I feel much less uncool for listening myself now too

It must be that the drive time gig was given to Trevor before he went off sick so now they are waiting to see if he’s coming back etc. Perhaps Joel will get Trevor’s slot if that did happen. He’s by far the best stand in.
I noticed with Sara’s show it’s particularly bad during my commute 8-8:30 and seems to get better towards 9 when she calms down slightly and often has a guest so it is less listener heavy. It’s like before then she’s manically trying to entertain children that are off to their fancy holiday clubs. I don’t recall Scott or Zoe (other than qi elves questions once a week) ever bothering much to interact with kids. It was targeted to adults. Sara is hosting it likes she’s on CBBC. Have they decided that’s their new target??

I’ve not listened to radio 2 in ages but popped Jeremy on for a bit. I forgot how much of a troll he is 😂 Calling someone who filled up an empty wine bottle with water and replaced it “a criminal mind”.

Thankfully I’m at work before the cringeworthy ‘kids in the car.’ Awful.

Ricky/Melvin/Charlie are the only ones I still listen to on R1, and they won't be around soon! Afternoon onwards it's just not very good, drive time is worse than nails down a chalkboard.

I wasn’t sure in the beginning but I’ve enjoyed him with Kirsten, I wonder if she’s lining up for a dj slot at some point? 🤔

They really have to stop speaking to people though, you can imagine the eye rolls that go on behind the scenes. Its painful

I like that he’s nice to everyone and he doesn’t put down people for laughs. Like you know how on a lot of the shows they make fun of the travel presenter. Joel is always so positive and friendly. You can tell he’s a nice guy.

Yeah I've been enjoying listening to him but the uncle Joel thing is a bit annoying - I missed the thing that started it so it didn't make any sense to me.
His son called him uncle Joel if I remember correctly. Joel was telling a story about what happened when his son said it.

I must say I have caught him a few times and enjoyed his show. I like the music selection too.

I miss Sally travel. Her voice and banter with the presenters is something I enjoy at weekends on radio 2. I gather she is on holiday and not left, right?

Well with Ellie Taylor getting the Strictly side gig (one not to watch), that at least means she’s not getting a permanent Radio 2 daytime slot
