For what it’s worth (which is very little indeed)….
I think it’s very likely that it did happen but the detail of it starting when the younger party was 17 is debatable.
it also sounds like the young person doesn’t regard themselves as a victim (whether they actually are is a different matter).
the CRACK COCAINE thing still seems very strange to me. It’s such a tabloid moral panic trigger.
I am a parent. If I was alarmed for the reasons outlined I would go to the authorities not to the older man’s very high profile employer and then a tabloid. The police would put a swift end to it, including the employer being made aware. I’ve not been put in this position thank goodness. But I wouldn’t be seeing it as the time or place to try a little maverick justice of my own. I’d follow the normal, obvious process. I just can’t think of a legitimate reason anybody would do anything else.
and, it might be that someone else has given the young person the funds to lawyer up. But there’s nothing completely wrong with that- if both directly involved parties are having lurid accusations made about them which they believe to be unfounded, and one of them has the funds to defend it, why would they not do that?

I find it so odd that people think The Sun would publish such a story without evidence, even if they refuse to publish.

This is the same scummy newspaper who phone hacked milly dowler familys phone whilst she was still missing in order to get exclusive. I don't doubt the lengths they would go to for a story

Additional Murdoch has just had to spend hundreds of millions in America due to settling a defamtion case. I don't think anyone within his businesses would risk such another big lawsuit

I know someone who did exactly this. Revealed an overheard awful family secret, then when the shit hit the fan, backtracked /was made to backtrack for the 'good of everyone else'.

I'm not saying I'm sure HE hasn't done anything, but I really don't think that taking a social media account down proves anything either way. People, even victims, often take down their socials during a media storm because they're getting thousands of messages, thousands of people are combing through every post they've written in ten years, their devices must be giving them a hundred beeps a minute and they must feel really overwhelmed by it all.

Graham Norton took his Twitter down when all he'd said was that he might not have JK Rowling on his podcast again. Stephen Fry has taken his down several times when he can't stand get nasty comments.

(Please please for the love of God, no one derail this thread into talk about JKR or gender issues. I'm literally just saying people take their socials down for reasons other than being a criminal.)

I've just gone on WebArchive - he hasn't had any references to the BBC in his Twitter bio since his account started being tracked there in October 2021. Your friend is telling you porkies!

Your assumptions about her may be correct….years and years ago she was on a really dodgy Welsh language programme on the S4C and there were a group of Welsh 20-somethings abroad (I think as holiday reps?). Anyway, one of the girls (not Alex) gave some unsuspecting holidaymaker head in front of everyone - literally walked up to a group of men, one of them was sat down minding his own business and went to town on him in front of everyone and Alex. It would definitely be seen as assault these days, and I remember Alex was one of the girls laughing and didn’t try to stop her friend at all. It’s definitely not on her IMDB page She also puts on that accent these days and I can’t fathom how or why she’s promoted as much as she isHer voice (and face) grate on me.

Another one to watch out for is the closeted Gethin. Allegedly Katherine Jenkins cheated on him.

I had an exchange with Gethin in my teens (18 I think) in a Cardiff nightclub.. can confirm there may be signs of closet dwelling. Oddly Robbie Savage was also there and tried to get me to go home with him

I think it's important to remember that the victim is possibly still being manipulated by the presenter.

If what the scum said is true regarding the phone calls, that would scare the shit out of anyone enough to make them shut up, especially if they've been paid off too.

This whole situation is super messy and I feel for everyone involved right now. The parents for being pushed to go to a paper due to their concerns over their child, the child at the middle of all this who, if everything is true, was groomed and exploited, and the presenter since right now, there isn't any proof of wrongdoing.

Obviously if proof does come out that the parents are right then the presenter deserves everything coming to them, including facing a court trial. If there isn't any proof, and the parents are lying, then this has just ruined an innocent man's career, especially if the name being banded around isn't the right person.

i imagine something like this happens-
the young person was getting money for his contact with the presenter, without a scooby doo who he was. The mother comes along - and recognizes him sitting on his sofa in his pants and tells her child who it is. Her child then realizes that they can get a lot more money out of this situation this then means they can afford more crack and their addiction spirals- the mother now doesn’t know what to do- she tells the presenter to stop but he can’t because he’s being blackmailed by her child who would probably have a wealth of messages etc that the presenter doesn’t want made public.
She knows this is what is happening, and is angry at the presenter for putting his career before her child’s drug habit, she chooses to go to their employer first, this does nothing so she goes to the papers as she can’t go to the police because her child is blackmailing the presenter.

or; mum and young person, both drug users, come to rely on the money from presenter. Mum wants more money, presenter says no. Young person wants nothing to do with mums plan. Mum says she’ll go to presenters employer. That doesn’t work so mum goes to the sun.
Could be any number of scenarios I suppose.
