I got myself blocked from the Shameless Book Club Instagram account by responding to their “what are your book in/outs for 2024” question with “out: giving unanimously glowing reviews for books where you’re friendly with the author” I.e Dolly Alderton, Caroline Odonoghue 👀 👀

What happened to Celebspellcheck, why is it so boring now?
She said she was concerned about the power her account had developed (so many followers plus media outlets using her content for articles, and lots of actual celebrities were following her) and she really valued her anonymity and didn’t want to lose that. She was going to delete the account entirely but then decided to leave it up for occasional q&a’s and pop culture posts. I really like Celebspellcheck, she seems very smart and in control of what she’s doing. I do really miss her influencer call-outs but I can understand why she was nervous about her privacy too. All the copycat accounts that have popped up since then absolutely suck, they all come across so badly.

Just here to rant about Victoria Devine.
firstly, she is a VERY annoying pregnant person. She has been pregnant forever and bangs on about it constantly. Every outfit is centred on her bump, every comment - oh I’m puffed after walking up to the front door etc. you are not the first pregnant woman. You will not be the first parent. Seriously, I’m happy you’re happy but stop boring me. While it is just irritating to me, I imagine she is being the kind of pregnant woman that anyone going through fertility treatment or pregnancy related trauma has to unfollow.

Next, she has to be a millionaire by now and it irks me so much that she so so grabby with gifted things. You can afford it all Victoria. Gets some class. It’s just so disappointing. I really liked her podcast when she started. I thought she had her priorities right and was giving helpful, sound advice. I used to like the money diaries when they were more mixed. Yes some people killing it but others managing to get out of debt but basically living modestly etc. i had to stop listening when it seemed that ever one was a 20 year old with 100 000 in the bank and 4 properties.

She’s VERY consumerist and it’s pissing me off more and more. Same goes for shameless girls going on about Skims, an unsustainable brand, and new outfits constantly. No mention of attempting to avoid fast and unsustainable fashion. I don’t want constant virtue signalling but it would be nice if some of these women had some ethics, lived by them and promoted them.
Also major face filter on the go in today’s story by VD.

Wtf. Looks like my husbands beard comb.. if I wasn’t already done with popping out kids, I’d give that a whirl 😂
Of course, in the middle of labour I would have tried ANYTHING. The issue isn’t with using a comb, a tens machine or meds to ease pain, it’s with the relentless commercialisation of having a baby and how influencers support that. The amount of unnecessary stuff that is pushed onto pregnant women and new parents. They are such prime targets because it’s an exciting time when everything is about you and your baby plus you want the best for your baby but HONESTLY! I’ve seen birthing gowns (a button down dress for your trip to hospital), specific bags for hospital trip etc not to mention the long-standing pointless crap like changing tables, nappy bins, nursing chairs. Massive bits of furniture that are unnecessary and end up in landfill.

All these babies that have all the stuff pushed at them by all the influencers are going to inherit a polluted, overheated planet but it’s cool because mum got gifted three birthing combs. Worth it.

Geez not a fan of these girls (never listened to a full episode of their podcast) but the shaming of their appearances is a bit WTF. They look like normal women to me, not models but very few of us are!

VD says she's been gifted a handful of baby items. Her definition of "handful" must mean something very, very, different to mine.

Does anybody else find the Outspoken sisters to be creepy and robotic? They show zero emotion in their happiest moments (eg the gender reveal, weddings). And they way they comment on each others photos is like they are acquaintances.

Anyone following the Laura Byrne v clementine saga? It has really put me off Laura. Just say it was not the best idea, apologise and move on (Matty apologise and not her). Going on and on about how he is such a great dad and husband etc. give it a rest. I’m getting really sick of this new breed of so called feminist, progressive podcasters and influencers who are only those things to build the brand. Shutting off comments and shutting down commentary about their actions is really crap. Why can’t some people just admit when they’ve stuffed up?

There’s no denying the Shameless girls have great chemistry together, but god I’d love a podcast with Zara and a different cohost. Zara usually contributes considered, interesting takes on their stories, whilst Michelle is all “yeahhh” “it’s giving…..” “snort snort snort”.

I was at the Australian Podcast Awards on Tuesday night - hosted by Matty J and the guy he does Two Doting Dads with. What a cringefest - I think almost all of the laughs they got were out of pity or discomfort. Victoria Devine won and then and acted like she was being reunited with a long lost lover greeting Matt and Ash on stage; the WDHTFT girls stuck in a corner for the first part and didn’t talk to anyone but each other (maybe because Gemma was sick) and left almost the second their name wasn’t called in the Listeners Choice category. Life Uncut won one, Matt accepted because the girls weren’t there and he went totally overboard, but they were finally dethroned as Listeners Choice winners which was taken out by Basically Besties. Lack lustre night all round but a few really solid proper industry pods won which was nice. The crowning glory was that in the middle of the awards ceremony they played a clip, in the style of The Oscars ‘in memorium’ video, that paid tribute to the one industry single handedly propping up the podcast industry (forget all the hard workers from the ABC, SBS, iHeart radio and the indie production companies in the audience) Reality TV and then showed a montage of all the reality star with podcasts and the shows the came from. Cringe.

Agreed. Beginning to doubt her financial skills.
She does not have a leg to stand on. It’s pure greed. Saying she does it because it’s genuinely something she finds fun but I’m another breath saying how it’s hard work. It’s just so unnecessary and grabby. Pushing a lifestyle out of reach to the vast majority. So kind of her not to commercialise her wedding and her fancy house because it was out of reach for the povo followers but her slummy beach house kaboodle kitchen is ok.

Yes! I have been waiting for a thread like this for ages.

I have really gone off Shamless the past few months. I’m all for intelligent, nuanced discussions about pop culture, but it has turned into preachy, self righteous drivel. I’d actually probably still listen to Zara, she comes across and intelligent and considered, but Michelle is insufferable with her condescending, one dimensional takes.

And don’t get me started on the Prince Andrew Scandal episode debacle which they handled so poorly 🤦🏼‍♀️
