Just putting my 2 cents in that nobody asked for...

Saw them in Sheffield at Hillsborough a couple weeks ago, and they were great tbh. The singing was obv more in the new style but nowhere near as bad as Glasto and some of the other places in the UK they performed on tour. I saw a video, can't remember where it was? and Alex sang the songs so out of time and tit that the crowd couldn't sing it at all and it made me cringe to the max.

I must say though, you could tell Alex absolutely could not be arsed to be there, which is a shame for a homecoming gig. The tracklist was very AM heavy so maybe that's why. Seemed to pick up a bit towards the end but you could tell he was so over it. Couldn't tell if it was put on or not tbh

I watched the Glasto set last night, finally.
It wasn’t as bad as I’d expected it to be.
I thought Alex struggled a bit with his voice during some songs, and the sound wasn’t great at the beginning but got better as it went on.
I will say that they seemed like they were going through the motions a bit. I’m not surprised if it’s true that they won’t tour for a while.

by home coming do you mean sheff? I know they love playing at home but tbh they have all just had enough. This is a huge tour they’ve been on now for a while playing the same songs over and over.

Glasgow was better than Glastonbury for sure but still not great. The new stuff sounds incredible, but performing the old songs in the style of the new stuff is horrendous. It makes him sound like a pub singer. A bad one.

Sadly, I think that will be the last time I pay to see them live.

Thats a real shame, people pay a lot of money to see them, look forward to it, take time off work, book hotels etc. Even if they can't be arsed and are fed up singing the same songs. I do think its the least a band can do, to put some effort in and entertain.

I completely get that it must be incredibly boring to sing the same songs night after night, I really do.
But to a certain extent that’s life - work is often monotonous and boring. The people paying to see bands play live often do it to escape the boredom of their arguably far more monotonous jobs.
It’s a shame if it’s the case that they’ve had enough of it and can’t hide it.
I love bands who evolve their style of music - always have. And I understand if they get tired of singing a certain song in a certain way so many times that they feel the need to rework it a bit.
Maybe one idea would have been to release an album of reworked/rearranged songs so people knew what to expect.
I loved the gig I went to, but sometimes fans feel a bit short changed if they can’t sing along to the songs they love!

Sometimes it feels like they binge tours a little bit after a long break. In those circumstances they shouldn’t really be surprised that people are turning up to hear Mardy Bum and Do I Wanna Know - especially now that stuff has been gilded by time like, it’s become fresh again as it’s not playing on the radio all the time.

they perform so infrequently year on year that people must panic a bit as they’ll assume they won’t get to see them again/get hyped to hear the old stuff live for the first time in years. I bet there are plenty of fans at every gig who’ve loved them for years and who haven’t seen them live until then.

I think if they performed more they would negate that a bit. It’s clear they tour only to promote a new album so it’s a kick in the teeth to show up to people wanting the old stuff, but that’s how the cookie crumbles when you play it like that IMO

I was at Glastonbury this year and saw the set live.

The crowd was massive & everyone was really up for it, which I don’t think comes across well on the tv. The excitement for them was building all day - so for them to open with SOAG was a bad decision.

Each song was absolutely huge and everyone was living in the moment - it was the in between of the songs and lack of crowd interaction which let them down. The special thing about Glastonbury is how the artists themselves are enjoying being there. I’ve been to loads of festivals and gigs but I can’t explain the energy the artists give - you watch their dreams come true in that moment. AM didn’t give that energy at all. The blackouts between songs felt soooo long and the chatter to the audience was minimal. I know they’re playing the role of Mr Cool & The Gang these days but there’s no such thing as being too cool to headline Glastonbury. Overall it was a fab performance but I do wish they put more effort in between the songs.

I was disappointed but I’m one of those people who would only know the old stuff. If the affected lounge singer thing is some sort of joke on his part I think it is a bit insulting to the people who put them there in the first place and just want to hear the songs that bounced around to on a sticky floor at Bulletproof in 2007.

He’s riding on the coattails of those albums none of the more recent stuff would have got him here. Save the self indulgence for your tour but give Glastonbury what you were paid to do.

The Vic Reeves pub singer thing is exactly what AT has turned in to. Takes himself way too seriously and thinks he’s Mr Cool from the 1950s or some tit. I miss the monkeys of old when they covered Girls Aloud’s Love Machine and were cracking up laughing.

Ha! My first thought when I saw the pics is that she called the paps.

One of the comments I read on that article last night said Alex and Louise are planning on releasing music together and that's why she set this up. Wonder if there's any truth to that or just someone starting a rumour?

I saw that too, what a random thing to say. I’d love him to do another TLSP album instead.

A lot of the comments on the article said he looks disinterested in her while others said she looks disinterested in him. This is probably not what Pauline was hoping for when she rang the paps.
