She definitely has good skin. Don’t think anyone really doubted that. What I admire most about her skin in unretouched photos is how even her skin tone is. No hyperpigmentation. Looks like she never had acne and the marks acne leaves behind.
However, what the beauty filters and her own face editing hides is her fine lines and wrinkles and she does have them. When I saw her in person in a cafe in Westbourne Grove sometime pre-2020, what I noticed immediately was how she looked older and far more matronly in person compared to how she looked to me on her instagram.
These photos show her wrinkles much more than most of her ultra blurry selfie pics and videos in which her facial skin looks super tight and smooth. In person, I could see that she’s a typical middle aged woman with some loss of elasticity in her lower face. I have the same signs of ageing and I am not in the habit of airbrushing them out of my social media selfies.
These 2 photos were taken just 1 week apart and the difference in face shape is pretty damn drastic. I’d feel so lame editing my face like this. If my friends, boyfriend and family saw me change my face shape this drastically through apps - making it longer, gaunt and pointy when they know I have a really round, full face in real life, they’d cringe and I’d be mortified they knew I was willing to be this dishonest.
If Alex had refused to comment at all on her filter/FaceApp abuse, I’d feel more neutral on the subject and tell myself, she’s just insecure and I guess “everyone” uses filters now. I used to think, surely she knows we can tell but when she started taking to her IG account to completely deny she alters her selfies - and she really does deny it 100% - that’s when I became actively disapproving of her as a beauty influencer. Her “how can I give credible advice if I faked my own face?!”

statement left me
so

. The dishonesty! I mean, she’s lying. I know that she is either in some weird state of denial or she is comfortable choosing to tell whopping lies. “I don’t even use filters …” the audacity!
FAN PHOTO last week Alex’s video today
Below is an example of the video quality I prefer to see from beauty influencers where you may have used flattering angles and lighting but you can see real up close skin texture. You can see natural shadows and expression lines.
I think Katie Jane Hughes has good skin but she isn’t praised anywhere near as much as Alex is for having “ because she doesn’t crank up the blurring and smoothing filters to 11.
this is what we get from Alex …
