i'm so glad I found this thread. i follow Alex and used to love her posts, but recently, she is sharing more and more posts which include photos of her when she was unwell with her eating disorder and at a much lower weight, which is totally unnecessary. i have anorexia, and i know how much these kind of comparison photos are generally hated amongst the recovery community - and people who unnecessarily post excessive photos of themselves at low weights are often called out for doing so, because it's fuelled by a disordered need for validation, and the need to prove that she was "sick".

i'm not questioning that she used to suffer from an eating disorder, but the constant photos of herself at a lower weight are unnecessary - she can write posts about how weight loss shouldn't be applauded and that gaining weight isn't a failure etc without ensuring she shares images of herself when she was unwell. what does it achieve? she's placing other people at risk of feeling triggered or invalidated - in terms of the fact that the majority of people who suffer from an eating disorder aren't underweight - solely to provide herself with a feeling of validation by "proving" that she was unwell - which is very much a behaviour fuelled by the illness she has supposedly recovered from! it irritates me, because she's doing it more and more frequently, in a way that anyone else with such a huge platform would be criticised for potentially triggering other people - yet she is endlessly praised and applauded by her followers, the majority of whom follow her for her content based around body confidence, seemingly unaware that her photos may be triggering to eating disorder sufferers. she is also reinforcing stereotypes about the illness by implying that people must be at a low weight to be suffering from an eating disorder and that reaching a healthy weight is synonymous with recivery - both of which are such harmful misconceptions. sure, it's important to highlight how harmful it can be place so much importance on weight and size, and reassure people that gaining weight is okay etc - but it's possible to do that without including "before" comparison photos of when she was unwell, next to more recent photos of her at a healthy weight - and while i appreciate that many people won't understand why this is an issue, i guarantee that as someone who struggled from an eating disorder, she knows damn well what she's doing, and that she's placing her more vulnerable followers at risk simply to ensure that everyone is aware that she used to weigh less. totally unnecessary and sadly, it's become more and more regular. it's incredibly disappointing. 😔
Completely agre, her posts are triggering and it seems to me she is unhappy with her current body and is comparing, it’s almost similar to body checking, I was once an inpatient in an eating disorder ward, I’m now a nurse on an eating disorder ward and I actually have told a few of the girls to stop following her

I completely agree about how frequently she is now posting more and more comparison pictures of herself. I also think all is not well generally, her bizarre outfits choices of things that completely envelope her and how she is deliberately contorting her body when she's posing in pics plus the fact facially she doesn't look well.

Just to add ..is it just me or does she dress abysmally? Someone needs to do an intervention on those god awful biker boots she wears at every occasion ! She also seems to have completely missed the fact its summer!

I had to unfollow her last week because, as others have said, her behaviour is becoming more and more bizarre.
Last week was the absolute end for me. Instead of making a comment on the headline of an article (in the sun maybe?) about how to lose weight and look 'good' on the school run, she literally reposted the ENTIRE article. What. The. duck??

Does anyone think that Em is a bit bored of her negativity?

I think it’s good to have a podcast like that where the hosts don’t agree on everything. But if I were Em I’d be annoyed because Alex is like a rain cloud. She doesn’t like anything and is just all round a very moany person.

i am honestly so relieved that other people feel similarly about her recent posts sharing low-weight, "sick" photos. it's ironic that she has "helping women feel better about themselves" in her bio, and claims she's all about body confidence, when she is obviously desperately unhappy in her body and yearning to be at a lower weight. and i totally understand that mindset, as i have felt similarly on occasions i have been at a healthier weight, but it's a disordered way of thinking, and she needs to recognise that she's struggling and seek help to work through those thoughts - and let's be honest, if she can afford to freeze her eggs, she can afford therapy. it's unfair on her followers to place them at risk by constantly sharing photos of herself at a low weight because she's seeking validation.

i hadn't even considered the fact that recently she's been wearing very over-sized, baggy clothing - but it's true. she is wearing clothes that hide her body, which shows she's struggling with her body image and feels uncomfortable with her weight - which, in itself, is a standard symptom of an eating disorder, so I'm not saying she shouldn't struggle with these thoughts - but she has a public platform where she has built a following based on promoting body confidence, so she needs to take responsibility for the content she's posting, and step back from SM if she's struggling. it's incredibly irresponsible to continue to share photos of herself at a low weight, because - even if she doesn't want to admit it to herself - on some level, she knows damn well that doing so is placing other people at risk.

whatever has happened to cause a spiral in her disordered thoughts is an issue that needs to acknowledge and address - not use it as an opportunity to make a point of how unwell she was, reminding people that she previously struggled with an eating disorder - which she clearly very much still does - and was very unwell, sharing photos/details of her illness to prove it. and not only that, but the photo she shared of the Olsen twins when they were clearly emaciated and very unwell has a permanent place on her grid - again, unnecessarily triggering imagery for her followers to be needlessly exposed to while scrolling through her page.

these "it's okay to gain weight" and "it's okay my body doesn't look like it did when i was 18" posts are becoming very repetitive, and simply an excuse to share comparison photos between her body now and how she looked at a low weight - i get the impression she's trying to convince herself that gaining weight is okay, rather than reassuring other people. if she is as "recovered" as she claims, why is she clinging onto all these old photos? or even if she doesn't want to get rid of them, i would question why she is constantly looking at them, knowing that is likely to trigger her, fueling comparisons between her underweight body and her body at a healthy weight. she's posted multiple different posts with the caption "it's okay to gain weight", and every single one includes a different low weight photo of herself, which indicates that she's spending time looking back at old photos of when she was sick. that is not indicative of a healthy recovered mindset, and she has a responsibility to recognise that and take accountability for the content she's posting.

i have sympathy for her in the fact that she's obviously struggling, because anorexia is an awful illness, but simultaneously that does not begin to excuse her triggering posts, and she needs to be in a better headspace to be sharing content with such a huge audience - many of whom likely do struggle with eating disorders/disordered eating/body image struggles, thus are vulnerable. her posts are placing them at unnecessary risk of being triggered.

She’s a drama queen about everything, it’s so tiring.

just looking at her Q&A now, I don’t know how she has the audacity with the first one about how she only asks for recommendations because she finds Google ‘overwhelming’ and gets 500 options (hello, she has 500k followers so how is that less overwhelming?) and then when asked about her mascara she just aff links ‘mascara’ with no info so you’d have no choice but to click to find out what it is. Not money grabbing at all then. All these influencers can’t even keep track of their own lies and hypocrisy.

It's here pissy passive aggressive/ ditzy blonde act that offends me . She knows exactly what she's doing and is incredibly manipulative and switched on.

32 degrees down south today and she's dressed like it's winter..very odd behaviour again

totally agree with her sharing the affiliate link to her mascara! like, i get it's her job and she needs to make a living, but if she puts up a Q&A for people to ask questions, and is asked about her make up, it's proper cheeky to respond with a link! like sure, include the aff link, but at least have the decency to specify the brand of mascara in your response so people don't feel manipulated into clicking a link solely because it warns her money! 😡

and she's definitely either hiding weight loss or hiding her body because she feels uncomfortable wearing such baggy clothes and oversized long sleeved shirts in the middle of a heatwave. again, i don't have an issue with the fact she's struggling with body image, because that's all part of having an eating disorder - which she obviously is not fully recovered from, despite her claims - but she has such a huge public platform where she supposedly promotes body confidence and has a massive audience of people who look up to her - many of whom are likely vulnerable in terms of struggling with eating disorders/body image issues/a disordered relationship with food, and she has a responsibility to acknowledge she's struggling and take a step back from SM while she seeks support to help her get back on track. publicly relapsing in this manner places so many people at risk, which is totally unacceptable.

So I’m frustrated by her sharing that recent post/reel about Zara sizing. I agree that their offering is limited, and that they could do a lot more to extend sizing to a wider customer base. However, she has made this point while using a now widely-disbunked claim about “codes” on their labels about whether items run small, large, or true to size, when one quick Google would tell her that this is misinformation.

Not only is this misleading, it also undermines her message, as it’s easier to write off good points if they’re made in a poor way. I know she has to find something new to rant about on the regular, but a simple fact-check never hurt anyone; in fact it could only improve matters.
But then again, she finds Google to be too much for her, so…..

She doesn’t fact check, she just churns out the same inane content as everyone else. Em Clarkson rode her daddy’s coattails to fame (she does nothing) and then everyone else jumps on Em Clarkson’s coattails.

I think the high she used to get from her eating disorder has been replaced by the high she gets now from churning out click bait. And she’s becoming very wealthy off the back of it.

She's set out and succeeded in her true intention build up a big social media following by targeting vulnerable women with body confidence issues and eating disorders and then cash in on them via a clothes line and book. She is nothing like the person who I started following 2 years ago. She's rude and confrontational and has turned into a sales woman. Her bandwagon jumping is now becoming boring and the fact she's just regurgitating things copied off the Internet constantly now is repetitive and boring!

I also think she's not being honest about her own recovery . People aren't stupid

Yesterday’s Zara reel has bothered me. I feel like this ‘size hack’ has already been shown as fake over a week ago. She’s left it up knowing she’s getting hundreds of comments and DMs telling her it’s wrong, and not gone near her stories all day to apologise/clear it up. I guess any engagement is good engagement.

Has anyone read the book / has any opinions on it?
Nope and no plans too!

Her outfit today must surely be raising some cause for concern with her family and friends ?? It's 30 degrees and she's dressed like that ?! Something isn't right

especially with that caption! "my outfit reflecting how I feel right now!"

she seems to be silently screaming for someone to notice that she isn't doing well, wearing huge, oversized clothes in the middle of a heatwave to conceal her body - either because she's feeling incredibly insecure and uncomfortable, or because she's losing weight, or both - and is now at a point where she's even writing cryptic captions hoping people will understand that she isn't okay. i

it's frustrating that her family and friends don't appear to have intervened, because not only does she obviously need help, but she also needs to take a huge step back from IG to avoid potentially triggering her vulnerable followers. she is obviously struggling and consciously aware she's not doing well, and i am sympathetic towards the fact she is struggling because eating disorders are total hell - but ultimately, she has a responsibility to avoid using her platform to place people at risk, and is totally ignoring that. 😡

And whatever she’s currently going through will be being documented behind the scenes so she can turn it into content fodder and monetise it in due course.

Sadly you are more than likely not wrong ...content for book 2 !

She's lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned, for me it was the exercise mirror in January..having absolutely slated that awful Charlotte Dawson for releasing her diet scam, she then a week later is shilling a very expensive piece of exercise equipment during a period of time post Christmas when people are at one of their most vulnerable time body image wise ...and she never addressed any of the very valid comments made on that post! She's progressively gotten worse as the year has gone on, her attitude generally now is arrogant and pissy ( if you dont like me unfollow me ..are we 15 ?) plus all the attention seeking silly me typos stuff 🙄 ...She's just a sales page now and her once important message has been completely diluted because of her need to monetise every situation!

Sad really because she was once one of the good ones
